This is awesome piece of writing about the current status of development. Oyster's development team is very talented this is what keeps us here to support the concept which is huge. After reading this article one can easily understand what's going on even with minimum technical knowledge because of its simple language and explanation. I must say great work is being done here.

Oyster Mainnet Progress Update #1

Quote
As promised in our previous post, we are releasing our first technical update on the Oyster Mainnet progress. Below, we will outline some of the aspects the development team is currently working on to prepare the Mainnet for its release on May 29th.

We are using the Truffle and Ganache suites to get Ethereum and ERC20 transfer events working on the Golang broker nodes. Additionally, we are in the process of performing QA tests on the treasure hunting logic used within the protocol. Once transfer events are working on the broker nodes, and the treasure hunting logic has been thoroughly tested, the development team will begin testing the PRL burying mechanisms.

Several other infrastructure improvements are currently in the works, including a change in the order of logic involved in processing chunks of data client-side to support treasure-containing data chunks on the Tangle. Before, the order of logic involved was to encrypt the entire file, then chunk that file and send the chunks to the broker nodes. Now, the file is chunked first, then each chunk is encrypted individually and sent to the broker nodes.

The development team also added several modes to the broker nodes so that broker nodes can quickly switch between uploads with treasure, uploads without treasure, and uploads with “dummy” treasure. This functionality was added to increase the efficiency of QA testing.

The development team has also made significant progress on the file upload/download speeds of the Oyster protocol. The team has solved some bulk insert issues, leading to the system being more scalable overall. Additionally, the team is working on the encryption schemes of IOTA transactions to maximize the amount of information that can be stored per transaction. Furthermore, the team has written custom methods for the IOTA IXI that allow for much faster and lighter downloads on our private Tangle, as well as made significant changes to the Oyster Storage download wrapper that have drastically increased download speed (see graphic below). Finally, the team has been working on preparing streamlined uploads to the broker nodes, which will have a significant increase on upload speeds once completed.

In addition to the great progress that development team has made this week, we are happy to welcome Astor Rivera as a full-time developer to the Oyster development team. Astor is well-versed in the field of software engineering and his experience with multiple blockchain platforms and technologies will prove invaluable to the Oyster development team. Since joining, Astor has been instrumental in improving our development cycle with the Ethereum platform. He is currently setting up our internal chain testnet called “Oysterby” and working with the team on the most efficient methods of PRL distribution.
We will continue to update the community on Mainnet progress every week leading up to the launch date of May 29th. Any questions or comments are encouraged to be posted to our Reddit, or Telegram channel

“PRL is the only asset in the world that is pegged to something tangible (hard drive storage) in a decentralized way, without requiring a reserve. USDT is an example of a pegged coin; however, USDT is centralized and hence carries counter-party risk. Additionally, the dollar used to be pegged to gold but was then unpegged for political reasons. There has never been an asset that has been pegged to something tangible in a decentralized way, making PRL the first of its kind.”

Everyone can have their own approach. Someone believes in technology, but someone wants to make money while there are such opportunities. But I also choose projects for investment which I believe.

I also think that even if there are people in crypto who are only interested in making a profit. But this is not bad, it makes crypto more popular. Over time, everything will change.

The one year anniversary of me designing the Oyster Protocol is coming up. In that time I have had in-depth constructive conversations about the utility and operation of the protocol with around three, three people. Stefan, Automyr and Rebel. The last two are devs who work for me.

Do you know how unbelievably disastrous this is? Do you know why the token sale raised only $75k? Because I didn’t hype Oyster into a part of this mindless crypto-bubble. I focused on the substance/utility and 99% of people glossed over it.

Yes, the b-word you’ve all been dreading: bubble. Do you know when financial bubbles form? When everyone is impatiently greedy at the same time and follows the next person. When no one focuses on utility and only on their own short-term greed and how their cousin made money, bubbles form and always pop.

Are you kids too young to remember the dot-com bubble? Would you like me to rename Oyster to pets.com? Pets.com had millions of dollars in revenue, was a household name in the US, and 2 years after their IPO they declared bankruptcy. Why did this happen? Because greedy investors of the IPO were only thinking about making short term gains and didn’t focus on the real utility of the business model.

So why are you here, a ‘part’ of the ‘Oyster Community’? Is it because you remortgaged your house, bought ETH, diversified into alts, and consider yourself a genius? You bought PRL at 80 cents, then the price goes to 60 cents and you think you have a right to complain? You consider green candles as entitlement, and red candles as injustice?

I and the team make no allusions, implicit or otherwise, to the promise of profit or a price increase. What you are promised is the utility that I have defined in the white papers. That is it. If I and the team fail in delivering the promised utility, you have every right of complain. If we deliver the utility to you, you have no right to complain even if PRL gets crushed to 5 cents.

If you understand how the storage-peg works then good for you, you realize that current price shocks are ephemeral and that the price of PRL will eventually become bubble-resistant and associated with the fair-market value of storage.

If you don’t understand the storage-peg, sell all your PRL and stop turning Oyster into a bubble. You are the same ass-hat who posts gay-porn and green arrow memes in Oyster Trading and you are not welcome here. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of pump-and-dump bubble coins on CMC, go knock yourself out.

That is some hard statements from the dev. I didnt find anything wrong in his words as most of the community is just using the market for pump and dump. I have trust in the oyster protocol and will see a better future with it.

It is a common problem for Crypto in general, not enough people invest in the tech or the potential use cases, all they see is a quick way to make some profit. There is only so far that this scenario will play out, as it is a bit like a pyramid scheme, the people that get out early profit and the rest lose. As they are essentially just gambling on speculation and inflating a bubble that will eventually burst. I only invest in things that interest me, something I believe in and I always do my homework and take the time to understand the core concepts and what the project aims to achieve.

Tell OKEx what token you want them to list: OKEx (https://support.okex.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002984752)

Simply go to their telegram: @okexofficial_en

Then copy and paste: I want RFR: Oyster Pearl (PRL)

(1 vote per person)

This is not a listing. The five winners, are selected for the OKEx giveaway. You can read more in the link above. But this is good exposure for Oyster. They are asking what token people want to see listed.

This contest ends 18:00 Apr 26, 2018 (Hong Kong time).

Thanks for pointing that out. I've done that.
I am curious how it will go on with PRL and SHL.

I always figured IOTA would be the weak link in the Oyster ecosystem. Hope they can get their act together so it doesn't hold up the PRL team further.

Oyster Mainnet Update

Quote
The Oyster team has an important announcement regarding the release of Oyster’s Mainnet. The Oyster Mainnet release will be delayed until May 29th, 2018. In making this statement, we want to ensure our community that we did not make this decision lightly. The Oyster team has worked extremely hard to garner a strong reputation as a team that meets every deadline put forth. Additionally, Oyster is known for remaining transparent in its actions, and in keeping with this behavior, we will be explaining exactly why this delay is needed.

The IOTA Tangle is Not Ready for the Oyster Protocol

The IOTA team has done a great job at building out their infrastructure to prepare for the Tangle’s ultimate purpose as the backbone of the Internet of Things. However, the IOTA team has not yet implemented Swarm Intelligence and sharding into their system. For the Oyster protocol to operate as efficiently as possible for large-scale, redundant file storage, sharding will need to be implemented into IOTA’s infrastructure.

Since IOTA has not yet implemented this feature, the Oyster development team decided to move to Oyster’s private Tangle. By using a private Tangle, Oyster can implement sharding into our infrastructure, allowing the protocol to be production-ready without relying on the implementation of sharding into IOTA’s main Tangle. The ultimate goal for the Oyster protocol will be to merge back into the main Tangle when sharding is ready, but for the time being, using our private Tangle allows Oyster to be a commercially available product.

The Oyster development team has already made significant progress in running its own Tangle, as well as building off of IOTA’s open source infrastructure to provide a sharding solution that will support Oyster’s need for large-scale, redundant storage. However, the decision to switch to a private Tangle meant that a lot of the backend already provided by Oyster’s two testnets needed to be rearchitected. Thus, delaying the Mainnet release to May 29th will allow the Oyster development team to finish Oyster’s private Tangle, as well as provide enough time for the protocol to go through rigorous stages of Quality Assurance (QA).

The Initial Roadmap was Decided Before the Development Team was Hired
When the Oyster roadmap was conceived, only two people were working on the protocol: Bruno, who single-handedly did the majority of the early coding and architecture of the project and myself who handled the design/graphics side of the project. Since then, the Oyster development team has grown exponentially, leading to more input on how the Oyster protocol should be architected to be as efficient as possible. For example, several architecture changes were made since the formation of the original roadmap including switching the backend from PHP to Golang. These changes were not considered when the original roadmap was formulated, subsequently making the original Mainnet release of April 2018 very tight.

Summary

The delay in the release of Oyster’s Mainnet is unfortunate, and we are not making light of our decision to push its release to May 29th. We also understand that announcing the delay a week before the release was to occur is unfortunate timing. However, the Oyster team was very confident that we would make the April deadline but unexpected delays and a requirement for very careful QA when currency is being exchanged convinced us that the product will not be suitable for production by the end of the month. The Oyster Mainnet will involve the use of real funds, and so the Oyster development team wants to ensure that the product will be working optimally before any funds are spent using our product.
Furthermore, we want to stress that Oyster is building a unique product that not only provides a reliable platform for anonymous, decentralized storage but also plans to revolutionize the way websites monetize their content. These goals are ambitious, and there is no other company or team providing solutions to these problems. Because this is entirely new territory, unforeseen hurdles will present themselves (e.g., architecting Oyster’s private Tangle) which can delay the product’s release. The Oyster development team has adapted very quickly to these hurdles and is working overtime to ensure that Oyster’s Mainnet will be ready for May 29th.

The Oyster team expresses our most profound gratitude for the patience and understanding of our community, and we will be releasing weekly infrastructure updates up until the new Mainnet release date. As always, we strongly encourage that people post their questions or comments to our Reddit or Telegram channel.

When you have some working solution and the explanation is simple everyone understands and realize the potential. I ma glad I have invested in a project where majority of people are serious and mature investors both small and bigger. It still may take time to deliver but things are rolling out on schedule this is appreciable at first hand.

You want to call your friend in a decentralized and secure way. The app on your phone looks for peer-to-peer connections (Bluetooth and WiFi) with other phones running Oyster nearby and a meshnet call is made, therefore bypassing the ISP. SHL is used to pay for connectivity instead of a monthly ISP bill. No third party can trace, block or listen into the phone call.

This is probably one of the most amazing potentialities. Nowadays you cannot really trust any service provider to keep your conversations private, versus sharing them with NSA. Therefore, this trustless solution is more than welcome!

At the moment SHL is very cheap on only exchange IDEX where some lucky mates already picked up some tokens. I also have eyes to increase my position if the situation allows me. Also launch of mainNet is due which can be anytime announced. I hope these price will last at least couple of days more.
