This is unique, and definitely similar to a couple artistic sound creators I've seen revolving around Bitcoin.

Cool thing. It reminded me of that anechdote of Steve Jobs using the, hmmm, Altair? to work in a certain frequency so interference over radio background noise made a tune.

Glad you enjoyed it!

A new version of PlayChain has been released.  The memory leak has been fixed!

using silverlight?

Correct.  I posted a bit on the subject a few posts earlier.  It should work fine on Desktop systems.  PlayChain is not targeted at mobile devices in its current form.  Silverlight is actually the current best option for multi-platform options + performance + closed source.  Until I decide to go open source I won't be making use of things like HTML5.

This is interesting.

Ok, I've been doing a little bit more testing and I've noticed there's a memory issue (has to do with how memory stream work.)  Thought I'd sorted it out already but it still seems to slowly eat up RAM.  Not a big deal if you don't let the music run for too long.  Until the bug is addressed I'd recommend not to let PlayChain play for more than 30 minutes, before restarting it.

Will post an update as soon as I sort it out.

This is happens to me, i run the music for over 15 minutes and make my system slow respond, until i close the music.

Thanks

Yes, it's because using more and more RAM as it plays.  A bug fix is being worked on.  I hope to have an update done soon.

Can you integrate classical music on your service? I'd love to hear Mozart and Bach's music if ever on that kind of platform. Cheesy

It's not "as straightforward" as that.  What PlayChain generates is predicated on a number of things, including "coincidental" contructive and destructive wave interferenace.  What comes out of it therefore is not 'a predetermined genre' per se.  I am able to tune things somewhat in different 'directions', though that "control" is actually not anywhere defined nor "straigthforward" per se.  For instance: There are no "instruments" defined in PlayChain.  In fact, there are essentially no definitions for anything related to most conventional music concepts.

That being-said, I can tune the code to sound "more like this" or "more like that", etc; except it is devoid of absolutes, and so I could attempt a "classical music version" at some point in the future.  It did cross my mind, however, thank you for the suggesiton.  I would like to do that.  It has been noted.

Ohh. I thought this was music stored in the blockchain.
Great idea though. How do you profit from this haha.

Thanks

The music is generated from The Blockchain (or Bitcoin addresses, or Bitcoin transactions.)

"Profit": Well, it would be nice to see something in return for what I've created even though I don't "expect" it to be in monetary form (although that would help a lot!)  It's up to people to decide whether or not they like- or appreciate it and how they might choose to show any possible appreciation.  At the very least, I hope people enjoy listening to some of what PlayChain generates.

Nice project you have here. Unfortunately can't use this because I am in mobile and the silverlight plug-in is required. Hope you can make this one mobile friendly for people like me. I want to try this out as I am both a music and crypto fan. Grin

Thank you.  Silverlight is platform agnostic however a number of mobile platforms do not support it.  Some do, for instance Windows Phone 7 and some Windows tablets support Silverlight.  Android and iOS, as far as I know, do not have Silverlight support.  Why, after all these years, there is still no support for it I don't know, but one could always ask these companies to add support for it. (Android, for instance, is built on top of Linux and, technically, it shouldn't be too hard for Android to add Silverlight support; since it is supported by Desktop Linux versions.)

PlayChain was not designed to tartget mobile platforms and is aimed at Desktop environments and runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS.  Currently, that's how things stand, however, if the project is supported enough and as resources allow, in future I may consider making specific apps for specific mobile platforms.  You can support this project by donating to: 12AZUREvk5nZBE83htbmp8Ah8AgpZT93mf

In the mean-time I'm going to put together some compilations of clips for people to listen to as I've had a request for this.

A possible alternative, for future consideration, is re-writing PlayChain in HTML5; however, that's currently not being considered since HTML5 is akin to publishing one's source code as open source.  Currently PlayChain is not an open source project, however that may change in future.
