As for the insight Premine has given us, there's really not much to say now. It's not like Bitcoin, in that there are few to no transactions being made, and it mostly relies on the community support to keep the network sustained. We'd need to wait until the coin gains adoption to actually derive something from this experiment.
If the traffic is going to be as low with BTC as it is now with PMC, there's a fairly visible danger of somebody screwing up BTC - the hashrate is going to drop if the BTC price doesn't get adjusted accordingly, and it's very possible for someone sitting on top of a mountain of processing power to pull off an attack.
If, however, the transaction fees turn out to be valuable enough to provide an incentive for miners, there will be no problem. The source code seems to be ready for this.
But still, the truth is - we can't really compare the huge and fairly selfish community of Bitcoin with the mostly "for-science" community of Premine. At least not in the very early experimental stage of the latter. If PMC takes off and gains enough value to bring in the whales, we might see problems we don't see now (such as the aforementioned 51% attack).
Another problem with PMC is that while it's valuable to the crypto community in that it shows what's going to happen, it will be hard to bring in people from outside not only the BTC community, but also people not interested in altcoins. People who don't really know what a "premine" is and why it's a good or bad thing. I think the name of the coin hasn't been chosen very well - as stated before, what's a "premine"? I've heard of people mining Bitcoins and making profit, does "premine" mean that I won't make profit out of this? Or has somebody mined my coins?
If we want to pull people in, we obviously need to focus on the non-inflationary aspect of PMC, but we also need it to become more than an experiment. Bitcoin didn't take off until you could actually spend it, and that's where we should start - have places accepting PMC, have people sending PMC one to another, make some paper wallets and distribute them somehow (even putting 1PMC on such wallet and telling people "only 500000 of those will ever be made!" will be a blessing for PMC, or so I believe).
