You can solomine using GESC Node https://github.com/ethereumsocial/go-esc/releases and Claymore or some other http friendly mining programs. Just open your rpc ports.

Are there anyways to solo mine? I've found a number of blocks so far and would have actually made 40% more which is quite a bit in my opinion.

I urge you to be careful with this coin. I pointed a miner and used MEW. Everything is 404ing and MEW has a balance of 0 despite the pool having already paid out some coins. What really sucks is the pool starts to pay out faster and I have no idea if the coins are making it to my own wallet.
