Be careful of fortatrust they are a terrible hosting provider and they will publish your personal details on their blacklist if you miss a single payment.

I not use any kind of messenger beware of scammers
I was looking at fortastrust before, I didn't like some of the reviews (http://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.fortatrust.com).  However it sounds like you've had good luck with them.
Interesting. Doesn't seem worth it imo.

Might want to note in the OP, the small print on the selector page:

"* All Cloud Server VPS are provided under our Limited Time Promotion, which provides for a 60% discount for the first month. There after the monthly rate will increase respectively, and invoiced under a quarterly billing model."
So expect a hefty charge after the first month ( about 75$ )

how much RAM would you recommend for 8 cores?

Given that you only need ~512 MB to compile Primecoin and less than that to run it, 1GB should be fine.
If you have to, you can even add a swapfile.

Also: high five to Qantaqa for finding FortaTrust.  Turns out "excessive CPU usage" is against Linode's TOS.  So... yeeeeeaaaaah.  Wink
(On a side note, did you stop/restart primecoind after letting the blockchain update?  When it's catching up, it'll make wild results of 25+ chain/day that can throw the estimates off)

That is actually a decent price. Linode is $20 a month, I'll have to try this out once my month lapses and see how it goes.
(Plus, it looks like they're just up the street from me, so no latency is a plus)

Just FYI, Linode always credits whatever remains of the month. However I still have my linodes too, I use servers as much as possible for both mining and other purposes so moving them isn't something I do a lot (not very profitable in term of hours of work).

For historic purposes and not wanting to hide my tracks, the original and edits are still below.

I have two VPS servers here doing fine, but the reviews are horrid and so on. The signup takes a bit longer, which I didnt consider a problem. But in addition this provider has cancellation by phone only and charges a lot more after the first month (60%). Since I don't want to get anyone in some kind of shit:

Can this thread please be closed.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to pm me and hopefully I post a better reviewed provider soon.

My apologies in advance for the 4 plp that signed up if it turns out to be a mess, hope you make lots in the meantime. Fortatrust has the option to cancel within 7 days with money back, I suggest you use it if you don't want to try your luck like me.

Original and edited post.

--- edit: away atm, but i verified the price after the first month as pointed out later in the thread. Be AWARE! After the 1st month price goes up by 60% and to quarterly. This makes it very interesting if you run it for just a month. After this its still priced well, but the period might be too much to commit too. I will make a proper update when home. My VPS works fine so they certainly deliver, feel free to ask questions.
---

Yesterday I cancelled my DigitalOcean droplets since they aren't really profitable anymore and many linodes look somehow throttled on cpu, even when I get max cpu, I was on the lookout for a cheaper and better option.

I found Fortatrust and this seems to be by far the best option, with just 1.8$ per core its lots cheaper then Digital Ocean and will remain profitable for quite a bit of time to come. Even the first Linode at linode which has full priority is also more expensive per core and slower per core. The one disadvantage of Fortatrust is that they aren't instant, so patience is required. But I received my vps in a few hours. My support ticket, since I had accidentally chosen 12.04 instead op 13.04, was also solved within hours. They didn't send me a mail on ticket progress, but I could follow it on the customer portal and this was correct and up to date.

You can scale your VPS server from 1 to 8 cores (starting at 3,99 for 1 core, to 14.45 for 8 cores, which divides to just 1.8 dollars per core, almost 3 times as cheap as DO), the cores are not some virtually defined cores, but real XEON cpu cores. Well feel free to read up more on their site.

Since I figured you would like to know this and I might make some on sharing an referral link:

Create your own VPS at Fortatrust.com: http://accounts.fortatrust.com/aff.php?aff=5456

It wont cost you anything to use my referral link and I would very much appreciate it, but feel free to visit www.fortatrust.com directly and donate to me instead Wink

-- Update

If you want to use Gigawatts guides to auto install and run the miner (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/xpm-noobproof-vps-primecoin-all-in-one-ez-setup-script-updated-261179), then prior to the script I needed to do the following commands (the compilers weren't installed by default):

Code:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade
$ sudo apt-get install build-essential
$ gcc -v
$ make -v

When these are done you can just paste his script (with your own username in it) and when it ran the vps will be mining for you.
