One thing that hasn't been taken into account for all these ASIC arguments.

Bitcoin Devs did not actively shun FPGA and later ASICs... they stayed the course with SHA256 and encouraged their development.

Litecoin (and other Scrypt) Devs have as part of their list of features ASIC resistance for the Scrypt Algorithm.  There have already been discussions on switching to something else like Scrypt-Jane or another more esoteric algo when ASIC's come knocking on GPU's power/hashrate threshold. They will do a hardfork if necessary to keep Mining a community activity.

That's the core difference between what happened before with Bitcoin and what's happening today in the Altcoin scene.

if you don't see that you still get a significantly higher hash rate with GPU for the price of the ASIC Scrypt I don't know what to say.
Power usage savings of even 1k watts, is minimal considering the much higher hash output.

Do the math please, then really let it sink in.

I appreciate your condescension.  Let me reciprocate it.

The cost of the 3MH/s model is 11190 Chinese Yuan, or $1849.19 according to the supplier’s website.
That is currently $0.61/kH

Let’s just say you can get 280X’s left and right for $300 because you are a fucking wicked smooth barterer.  You also get 800kH/s on each card because you are a configuration specialist.  So just for the cards, you are paying $0.375/kH.  Let’s not even factor in electricity or other components you need for your rig as we all have closets full of spare computer parts to build endless rigs.  You are getting a 40% discount on hashing power with GPUs compared to an ASIC.

Thankfully, you don’t have to worry about ASICs becoming more powerful and more affordable.  That never happened with Bitcoin right?  That’s why after ASICs came out last year, they were continually outperformed by GPUs.  Oh what’s that?  That shit didn’t happen?  No fucking shit dumbass.

If there is a chip that is producing 300kH/s right now, then there will be a Scrypt ASIC chip this year that will make GPU mining ineffective for Scrypt just as last year it became ineffective for SHA256.

You can have this lesson for free.  Next time you think your math is great, you should think a little more progressively and stop being short-sighted.

LoL

So basically, in your opinion, ASICS will continue to grow at an exponentially powerful rate until they destroy GPUs this year....and everyone who disagrees with your 'yet to be invented' phantom ASIC chip is being short-sighted.

Honest question, do you actually know the difference between SHA256, and Scrypt? Do you actually know WHY it's difficult to make a scrypt ASIC chip?
Maybe you should do more homework before spouting off about chips that will crush GPU mining, in the future.

Greatly appreciate the help with the BAMT and nano the live cfg file to get GPUs up and running.  Another question though: I have the MSI-Z77A-GD65 which should support 7 GPUs in theory.  I plugged in a 7th GPU and turned on the PC and got nothing, not even fans spinning up when I turned on the PC.  I did a presence short on the x1 slot and now it looks like it is running, but I don't see it in the BAMT.  Do I need to further change the vmalloc=256M setting?

GPU mining is NOT dead.

you can buy 9 R9 280X cards for $3500 and get the same hash rate 6MH @ 1800W. Power usage is higher than ASIC (1200W). But GPUs have a second hand market value. GPUs come with warranty and they are manufactured by well known companies unlike those ASIC vendors who accept BTC and Western Union payments only.

Exactly what I think too, Who wants to be left with a machine that's no good for anything else. Totally not worth it.

wow a whole 6 MHs for about $5400! What a steal! You're right, GPU Mining is so dead!

lol

If you don't see the significance of a working Scrypt ASIC then I don't know what else to say.

GPU mining is not dead, but if that ASIC is real, then it is on it's way out.

Those early script asics are the scam ones. Once the big players (manufactures) jump in the price will drop to less than $1000 for 5mh/s script ASIC and then GPU's will be dead for scrypt mining. But it's going to take some time. Probably not till mid 2015...

More to do with the fact you jumped down my throat because you think I have no idea what I'm doing,I haven't posted a lot, But I've been reading these forums for ages.

That wasn't me though..

Besides, I'm not a deep-throat kind of guy - I prefer the kind of friction you can only find in an unshaven armpit.

So sorry about that lol , I thought it was that nob from earlier haha, Going blind in my old age.

Really gutted because my hash rate has dropped off to exactly like it was before I reinstalled Windows, I don't know what has happened, The only answer I have is that the stat reporting has changed for everyone, But if that was the case I'm sure other users would be complaining they have lost power.

it was the same for BTC.
But then LTC was made..
Now we have Scrypt-jane, MMC, Quark and I thins number of new stuff will be invented to keep GPU busy...

How efficient was the first gen of sha256 asics? Maybe it's just the beginning... :-/

Just as FYI, the stats seem to have stopped rather than flatlined as before.

Not sure if you mean graph or table. My personal stats are being updated in the table every few minutes.
Do I need the Python script to pull from the table?

H2o please hire someone that knows DB programming.  The web page stats freezing multiple times a week is unacceptable when the pool owner is knocking down $4K+ day.

So I guess Scrypt ASICs are out... not sure how I feel about that.  Undecided

http://www.middlecoin.com/reports/1M3jtksp1upR33SX1VzeCfH5x9fc6zKykR.html

How is this proof that the scrypt ASICs are out? I am just curious. Isn't this the same person we suspected to be running a botnet or a GPU farm?

It's not proof, but it is evidence.  That and multiple sources are saying they are out, and China is selling them on Alibaba already.  The seller is not verified and I really hope it's just an elaborate scam, but if it is not then I guess I will put off building the GPU Rig I was planning for next month Sad

OMG this has been debated over and over again ...

Now to the real issues ...  Cheesy

Does some one know what is happening with charts of some users, my wasn't updated since 16.54 UTC.

But it is not a big problem though. Because i can see that today payout wiil be nice too Wink

Just happens some times... but it corrects it self. Hope the new servers will be permanent soon, so we have less downtown.

And i also wish for vardiff

If you want vardiff, head over to Hashco.ws or Wafflepool.  You can see how well it's working over there.  H20's been pretty adamant he wants nothing to do with vardiff.
