Still kinda confusing maybe someone should do a youtube tutorial  video. SO to  do private transaction  u have to  go XSPEC to spectre  spectre to a private address then to use those coins again convert then back to XSPEC   .

If you move XSPEC to a private address it gets DESTROYED, just like in the original ShadowCash. I lost $1800 doing this, back when this coin was worth something. IF stealth addresses ever become the default, that would be the only time you should attempt something like this.

This is rubbish, no coins get destroyed, you really need to learn a thing or two about blockchain and about Spectre and please read this:

https://news.spectreproject.io/anonymous-transactions/

You can create anonymous coins from XSPEC and you can create XSPEC from anonymous coins. You will never loose your coins. Please send me the TXid for that transaction where you claim you lost coins as it's rubbish. You show that you don't understand how it works.

I would also like to say that the code for Spectre has changed quote a bit since the days of SDC and the documentation written for SDC is not always correct. It would be so much more useful if you guys could read up a bit before you post and when you talk about transactions, please post a link to the block explorer: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xspec/tx.dws?1487476.htm

This is an anonymous transaction. If you don't post links to transactions etc. then how are we meant to comment and respond. Saying that you lost coins without any links to the transaction appears as just FUD. The blockchain doesn't lie so post links to transactions.

Please try to understand and read a bit before posting rubbish. You can safely send coins to stealth addresses both 'normal' coins and 'anonymous' coins. There are no faults on the blockchain and coins do not get lost.

Please read this about how to use anonymous transactions:

https://news.spectreproject.io/anonymous-transactions/

Cut through all the hype of certain other coins and Spectre actually have working anonymous transactions.

Don't take me wrong I'm not spreading FUD, I'm supporter of XSPEC !!!!!!

I'm just absolutely shocked finding out that you can destroy your own coins just by sending them to stealth address. I own XSPEC several month but haven't learned about this so far. I haven't tried it myself, fortunately, but it scares me.
So I'm asking - is it really true?

It is a beautiful truth, the past of those XSPEC is cut, these are destroyed and an equal amount of SPECTRE (anonymous tokens) is created
in this way the number total coins remain constant, after these transformations.
In the same way for to transform SPECTREs from Private to Public, these are destroyed and new XSPECs are created. The total amount of coins always remains the same.
It is possible to go from Private to Public, so there is no reason to be scared.
At the beginning of the blockchain there were very few SPECTREs, people had their coins in public form: XSPECs to win through Staking,
after a time it began to be possible to send them privately.  Smiley But coins were never lost in this way. Smiley  This is a brief summary, the topic is broader.

WTF are you serious? I haven't tried it, but if you are telling truth, that is really screwed.

What mission will be formed by Spectrecoin? What is the advantage of a Spectrecoin? How does Spectrecoin protect the identity of its users?

I'm just a HODLER, but the long term mission is to have a 100% secure, anonymous and private cryptocurrency. Basically a PoS Monero if you will. I would recommend joining the Discord server to stay up to date, and check the bi-weekly updates from @mandica which showcase the continual progress. Coins like XVG market themselves as private when in fact they are nothing close to anonymous nor private, whereas XSPEC seems to be now focused on locking down and analyzing the code to actually accomplish those things. After that, then a new marketing campaign can begin.

I would read this update  for how current anonymous transactions work and some other info. https://news.spectreproject.io/anonymous-transactions/

Anyone having issue to sync the wallet? It's trying to sync for 11 hours now. "last received block was generated 11 hours ago". The synchronization blocks at 99.91%. I downloaded the last version 1.4.0. But it doesn't fix my issue. It's the first time I get that after 8 months.

We are def aware of slow sync speed and I just raised an issue now on GitHub so that we can improve that in 1.5 and in the meantime I will try to get a bootstrap done and uploaded or a zip of the blockchain.

ok i will wait the 1.5 version. The 1.4 version opened a command windows with many errors so I am back to 1.3 version. I still can't stake it's still trying to sync. It stucks at the block 729495. When do you think the 1.5 version will be ready?

the problem is I cannot see the original wallet address- the default wallet is not the same address as my original address that I can see the coins are in

Maybe a good time for you to come here and say you solved your problem by using the correct .dat file since all your posts reflected on the quality of the Spectrecoin client/wallet.  Grin

good point

after someone pointed out that the wallet address I was looking for would not be showing up after reformatting my system and starting a new wallet-  made me think that the backup wallet I was using was a later backup-

so i started going through Time Machine backups until I found one that reflected my system when the wallet was showing coins .
(btw the backup .dat creation date was not as helpful as one would assume) -

thanks everybody who weighed in with questions and solutions

thanks- my wallet has synced now but shows zero balance
v1.3.6.0-g

I had sent 3140 coins to it in two separate transactions (small one to test and then sent the balance) and now I want to know how to fix the wallet to show my balance
TransactionId
32961a7df2ec65cfa76df94d50d199b98ff32b06f7b53474b4d2521ca22dbe3e

any advice please

This isn't necessarily a fix, but if you start staking your coins, I've found that if you're using a client that shows the 0 balance, once you unlock the wallet for staking if you hover over the top right it will show your weight and the network weight. Once you receive a stake your balance will appear as well. I believe V1.4 of the wallet is official now too, so you could just upgrade to that also.

I tried restarting numerous times
downloaded vs 1.4 and tried that too
tried opening my backup dat file with Spectrecoin app too
the problem is I cannot see the original wallet address- the default wallet is not the same address as my original address that I can see the coins are in

What OS are you on? and are you in our Discord server? There is an issue we are working on where sometimes the balances don't update until you unlock the wallet. Just give me some more details.

I moved this discussion over to the Discord Support channel (in the "right place" ... right) and Dev's were straight onto my issue - anyway 'long story short' once I had some questions asked of me I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong and Voila- restored my wallet balance!!

 I have to say that it helps noob morale when busy knowledgable people in the project team treat the little guy's problem with heart ;
