Yet another power question :

so I took a look at my panel finally and found i have a 125 AMP panel ( what a rip off for a house that is less than 8 years old)

anyways looking at the dryer I saw this kind of outlet which i plan to use for one or two sp30s if possible :

http://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/60526936?src=pla&008=-99&pcrid=15557577904&007=Search&006=15557577904&005=21882504424&004=4409695744&002=2167139&mkwid=sJXegN7a0|dc&cid=PLA-Google-PLA+-+Test_sJXegN7a0_PLA__15557577904_c_S&026=-99&025=c&item=60526936

on the outlet it states its a 30 amp 125/250V
I also have a 50amp outlet upstairs used by the electric range which I already planned to replace with a Gas range during black Friday, I have not checked the outlet for that

what kind of adapter would i need for the above linked outlet to hook it up to some sort of splitter or PDU for at least one sp30?

The 50amp outlet is upstairs so i would probably need to get that rewired to downstairs in any case so that would be a project for later.

thanks

you can stick the item below into your dryer wall outlet.
http://www.amazon.com/Conntek-14330-1-5-Foot-Adapter-Connector/dp/B001TO7130/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1407514332

then, you would need a pdu, which are available used on ebay (AP9571, etc) for another $50.
125A is not much power, though, and you would need to calculate how much is your typical A usage at the peak, add 3kw for each Sp-30 and add 20-30% as a cushion.
Thanks for the input that cable looks good enough, I would probably need one that is 25 feet though to get to my mining room in the basement.

125A is how many available watts by the way ?  My peak usage is pretty high but I will turn off my gpus as I turn on the SP30s and they currently pull a total of 4000Watts.

also with the dryer not running while the SP30s run now that would limit my usage a bit there.

-Also Could I run two SP30s on that AP9571 ? and would i get the full power out of the SP30 (4.5TH) with that PDU  even though its a 125/250V outlet from the dryer ?

Thanks in advance.

The compensation will be for the missed GH/s, per the specific $/GH/s ratio of each customer order. It was explained numerous time before.
We'll allow each customer to select the form of compensation. More details soon.

Guy

The form of compensation will be decided by the first thought that came to your mind after SPT email.

Yes the front mount ears were on as well as a separate set of rear mount ears in case you have a 4 post rack.
They work well and fit standard 2 post and 4 post racks.
I do suggest using a 4 post rack though just due to weight.

Hello, for those who already received the SP30, does it bring the rack mount ears?
thx

How long is the warranty on the sp30?

Will there be a longer warranty period for the 4.5TH sp30s, as the PSU is subject to additional stress?

I think that the market of miners will change soon, with companies offering longer warranty on their products, and building miners that supposed to work for longer period without downtime. The reason people talked about 2500W is the confusion between at-the-wall numbers and PSU output definition. It is really easy to make mistake between output and input wattage of component in communication.

People talked about 2500 because this is what was posted in black and white in SP-30 technical characteristics on SPT web site.
Right now there is a 3000 number where it used to be 2500. I have downloaded the pdf with Sp-30 tech specs BEFORE it was pulled/replaced.
Second point-isn't Sp-30 under 90 day warranty? Same as basically everybody else. It would be a premier product in this category if it's warranty is extended to 1 year or more.

I explained the origin of the mistake of the power and telling clients that the next SP30 with the right ASIC corner will not use less power.
And yes, our warranty is industry standard, and I think it has to change for all players.
But I don't think that it was that important for clients till now because of the unit life expectancy.

I think that the market of miners will change soon, with companies offering longer warranty on their products, and building miners that supposed to work for longer period without downtime. Unfortunately, reading the forums, most clients don't understand that and only look at the $/GH. People still think difficulty will grow exponentially, that is why they want ROI in 3 months and then throw miner away in 5 months. But that will not be realistic after September - the HW price will become stable (there is nowhere much to drop prices for manufacturers), ROI on miner will take longer but miner life-cycle will be longer too.

Once clients understand that and will be willing to pay more for GH for better product with warranty, it will create the motivation for companies to add warranty to their packages. At this point I see all manufacturers race to the bottom, trying to get most Gh per $, and I don't see clients caring about anything but GH/$.
I expect that to change very soon, as people start seeing difficulty becoming more linear.

Regarding PSU stress, it was planned to work 100% from the start. The reason people talked about 2500W is the confusion between at-the-wall numbers and PSU output definition. It is really easy to make mistake between output and input wattage of component in communication. I don't care about at-the-wall number, so I use only output numbers, but the clients care only about at-the-wall number - that is the source of this mistake. Not the ASIC corner. I think I even wrote somewhere that the 2500W is the output of PSU (1200watt official with some 'overclocking'), but I can not find it now. In the end we drain 1320W from PSU, 1450W at the wall.

Well 3kW/2U is pretty much the maximum reasonable density for air-cooling.

With enough airflow that should be achievable through free-air cooling aswell, if each rack gets ventilated above ~9000cfm and good hot-aisle containment (and air removal) is in place.

It will be exciting to see such a high-density 60kW rack be cooled by free-cooling, something that probably hasn´t been achieved on a larger scale yet (mainly because standard equipment has half the density or less).

I guess the RockerBox ASIC is currently a very good chip for immersion cooling, due to its power efficiency and overclocking potential.

I guess you're referring to server space. You can achieve much higher rack densities with some exotic cooling setups, including using smaller rooms with localised high airflow, or rooms combined with floor to ceiling exchange. Its all rather pointless though, there isn't really any cost of halving that density.

In terms of ASICs, I think you could get 12KW using aluminium, external PSUs and non extreme noise levels. Copper heatsinks are cheating, but would boost your density further - not that we care of course.

It's astonishing how much the game has changed in the last year...

+  Cry

I think that with the inevitable slowing down of the difficulty increase rate, the build quality of the miner becomes increasingly important. While first ASIC generations became irrelevant in 4 months, SP30 with 5.5TH will be profitable till 2000PH network. (for 10 cent electricity at current bitcoin price till the next split).

So basically, I think people buying miners today are buying them for a long long time (year+), and should take build quality, support and warranty as primary consideration.

When does Aug batch ship tired of waiting  Huh
The groupbuy batch will ship after August 11th (and I guess even more towards the end of the month).

The August batch 1 might have been started already, but most units should be available at / after August 11th aswell.

Huh

At the time of purchase it was roughly 14th August through 21st August range that most of the group buy would ship if I remember correctly based on RoadStress and SPTech comments / communication because there was a production per day number and start date and it was what 250 units in the group buy again if I go by the emails right?

It would be nice in future if there was a more precise timeline for delivery posted for customers only this sort of loose speculation is not helpful given there is a clear timeline for production that has not been interrupted according to SPTech. You should be able to accurately determine shipping within a few days. SPTech certainly has the capabilities to provide that sort detailed information directly to customers and given the anxiety level it would just be the right thing for customers to get.

Clueless!
What hardware are you NOT interested in. The reason I ask is that I have good bit of hardware that I have recently pulled from service for lack of space and would be willing to send some your way if you are interested. For example, do you have access to cheap electricity or are you only interested in very efficient hardware? I have hardware, coolers, PSUs and would be happy to send some stuff your way as a gesture of appreciation.
Thanks. Always largely interested in newer hardware since there really isn't much need for further development of code on hardware that is being deprecated/made redundant due to power restrictions. I only have limited regular power and space at home like any other normal person, but I do have access to someone who care remotely host things for me in the usa, though remote access is almost never as good for development as having the hardware in hand.

Just to keep the discussion on topic, there's no doubt that efficiency is becoming the main player and the SP30 would be borderline for regular people's homes for anything more than a single unit, and it's looking less and less likely that hardware (from all manufacturers) will be suited to the home. It's astonishing how much the game has changed in the last year...

yeah I punted for hosting after figuring out the new 3000w at 15c kwh savings (not with cooling elec added in yet) was like $194 more at home in usd
at that point with potential noise...some cooling costs even if just a few fans...theft?/fire?/flood? I figured the heck with it and punted it to hosting.
i can even use that $194 usd to get the miner back for sentimental reasons and it will be break even 8 bucks one way or another ..i forget which... heh Smiley

so the potential compensation and such on hosting suddenly looked very attractive to me (free miner heat in the winter or not)...said forgive me for trying
to host at home and gave them my money.....asap....

actually kind of a relief only thing I will have in the house now besides the Oct knc 550gh Jupiter is the 'supposed' delivery of the knc Titan scrypt miner

but yeah after that and the churn of the last year (last august 60gh bfl miner was a big unit)...now that I went to hosting more relaxed I am..after the 'punt'

www.coinbase.com is so much more relaxing....buyng say $16 usd of BTC on a whim..like amazon or ebay....no pesky people who won't/can't or will ship equip
on time and of course not talking about spondoolies (we are all scared from other asic mnfg companies don't ya know)

home mining .....she may be on here last gasps and dead by the end of this year more or less...at least for the big 7-10k stuff

thanks to everyone who ran me thru electrical issues ..cooling options (learned all about cfm) and all that stuff....well learned lot if I ever want to put
a welding shop in my basement....it would work...for mining...er not so much maybe...good to know I can run 3 dryers down there at the same
time should the need arise? (well come to think of it I could put a backup hanging heater 220v for the heck of it ..to use bsmt in winter
when miners go away...) as to the other 220 outlets..well again I could do 'artsy' welding projects now!!!! (FML)

baby miner units at best from now on for fun..big stuff  er NO.......it is like having a pony in the back yard ..eventually it is  horse and has to go

all things must end.....(no more whirly noises...keen lcd lights......the joy of finding the right hole ..(hey I ment for the paper clip you sicko! on the
power supply startup!)

folks in the 1890's musta felt this way when they shut down their steam powered metal lathe and such..in the metal shop....it has gotten that old fashioned to mine
at least big...at home in only 1 year wow!
