So I am a little confused at this point if we start mining with CPU or if there will be an AMD miner available at launch. Can someone set me straight please?

Relax - hashrate calculation is broken.
Cleaned up the code and fixed the share difficulty bug with the pool - you may now run this CPU miner against the pool.

Yes, If you intend to do CPU mining to a pool, you MUST update or else you will not get as many shares as you should on the pool. See the links above, or the OP for links and source code for the updated cpuminer!
Other than that, everything is looking good for launch. We got SUPrnova onboard, and I'm sure more pools will come soon enough.
