@SysFailure and @BitcoinFX, you talk with so much confidence and you sound convincing. But I won't blindly take what you have said until I hear from @TheTorCoin.

That being said, it looks you work for the TOR network or you have been tasked by them to come on here (this thread) and demean TOR Coin.
My suggestion is this; Both parties settle your differences, then collaborate and let's make this work.
What do you say??

I do not work for Tor. I'm not asking you to blindly take what I say. I provided actual evidence, you can even download the wireshark packet captures that I linked. Even better, you can do your own packet captures. TorCoin does NOT connect to the tor network. It's plain as day.

I'll also confirm that I do not work for the Tor Project Inc.,

I do have extensive long-term experience of hosting Tor Relays and Tor Exit Nodes ... also run by many other volunteers all around the world.

You can easily test for yourself that the Torcoin v1.0.0.0 wallet does not automatically run over Tor, as otherwise claimed in the OP.

If you are running the Torcoin wallet go to: Help > Debug window > console and type: getpeerinfo

This will show a list of your connected peers IP addresses. If the coin was connected over Tor then the majority of IPs would either be generated .onion addresses or IP's of actual Tor Exit nodes. You will not be able to match the IP addresses that your node is connected to with actual running Tor nodes : https://atlas.torproject.org/ (unless someone has configured a node to run via Tor for themselves).

...

No one should willingly associate themselves with a project that is making misleading and 'false' claims from the get-go. Especially with regards to anonymity and internet privacy!  Angry

I'm a certified Network Engineer with a little over 10 years experience. Most recently I worked for a very large ISP in their core engineering department. I'm also kind of a nerd, so in my free time I like to investigate how things work, especially if they are network related.

I have experience with Tor and anonymous distributions like Tails. My primary interest at this point is to find out how secure TorCoin really is. If you are familiar with anonymity, then you should be aware that leaking network data on the clear net (the regular internet) is a big concern. Leaking any data related to you or the app you're trying to conceal will give you away.

To test, I configured a Windows 10 Virtual Machine and setup Wireshark. After installing and launching TorCoin, I performed a series of packet captures. For the sake of being brief, I discovered that most of the claims made by TorCoin are false. TorCoin does NOT integrate with The Tor Network. It does NOT keep your usage private.

Here are just a couple things that I found!

* Clear public NON-Tor DNS traffic asking for http://seed.torcoincoin.com
* Clear public IRC traffic to irc.lfnet.org and irc.smutfairy.com
* Does NOT connect to The Tor Network!
* Does NOT keep your use of the coin anonymous!
* Nodes do NOT help The Tor Network.

Here is a screenshot of the IRC traffic:

You can download the Wireshark packet captures here so that you can see for yourself:

BitCoinTalk member TheTorCoin makes these FALSE claims on his thread:

Quote
"Torcoin is a cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin featuring numerous improvements and innovations, such as full integration with the TOR network, stealth sending technology, and complete anonymity."

"There is never any need to 'mix' or 'anonymize' your TorCoins - they are anonymous by default. TOR is fully integrated with TorCoin, which means that a snoop or attacker watching your internet connection will not know if you are using TorCoin - and other TorCoin users cannot determine the physical location of your Torcoin node."

"Completely Untraceable. No one will ever know you are running a TorCoin node - your real IP is never broadcast to the network because TorCoin runs over Tor."

TorCoin communicates with other nodes over the regular internet. Your IP address can be seen by everyone! I was able to do a reverse lookup on a node and found a user on Comcast. His claims are misleading at best. I personally feel the creator of this coin has done this intentionally. It is my educated opinion that you avoid this cryptocurrency.

Is this coin actively developed?
Currently it seems that Spectrecoin and other anonymous currencies are better than torcoin.
Spectrecoin is not a coin https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/SpectroCoin its a e wallet and TorCoin is altcoin and devs doing hard work for this hope if they solve issues about right its going to good price because its only anonymous currency

If you are honest, you can not use 2013 info, outdated obviously, that link does not correspond to Spectrecoin 2017, see good info here:

Hello guys, Im very happy because I bought last week tor coin and after few days I see the price its increasing and tge price of now its 0.00065 plus and I believe the price next week maybe 0.001 or more. Many investor for sure will invest in the TOR coin because they see the potential of this coin. More tor coin more profit.  I will hold my tor coin. I already recieved my tor coin reward thank you so much. I will continue to promote this coin and this project. Goodluck to us.!

I seriously hope so because I've made a trade to sell the Torcoin for 0.001. Cheesy I think I'll start trading with Torcoin, the price is really nice, will be earning more TORcoin from the signature campaign and it has a potential go rise in price, but that 0.001 price can better come quick.
There's a big possibilities that it will hit again the 0.001 or even higher for this month you can view here https://www.coinexchange.io/market/TOR/BTC that the highest price it reached was almost 0.01 BTC if I am not mistaken, sorry I only used my smartphone with 5.5" so its bit complicated to see but its obvious that it reached that high. So without doubt we will hit that again. Specially I participated this campaign with tor so lets see what happens to its price this month Cheesy
I have sold 3 TOR at 0.02 BTC on coinexchange before.

Yeah that was at the beginning, now the price has dropped significantly, but we're hoping that more exchanges put Torcoin in. :p

I'm following the price on c-cex.com, since that's where I've created my TOR wallet. Yeah I;m really interested in getting more TOR coin so I can trade more effectively.

spectrocoin is a scam the dev got a tag check the ANN, also spectrocoin don't have  apow phase for good distribution, Torcoin have a pow phase, which is much better than a simply pos, this coin is also more rare, i see better future here to be honest

Torcoin is great for anonymity purpose. Its less supply of 120 millions makes it a rare coin.I like its features and no wonder the price is sky rocketing Smiley

total possible supply is only 12 million :-)
Definitely, since total supply is only 12 million, price would increase more and there would be a huge increase in demand in future.

Users of this forum should know the following;

(1) "Torcoin" has nothing whatsoever to do with the real Tor Project Inc.

In fact, the official Tor Project Inc has already publicly issued a warning regarding "Torcoin"

"@torproject Apr 26

Warning: @TheTorCoin is using our name and logo deceptively and without permission/approval. Their service is not endorsed by Tor."

Anyone reading this should also see: https://www.torproject.org/docs/trademark-faq.html

"Tor" and the "Onion Logo" are registered trademarks of The Tor Project, Inc.

(2) "Torcoin" is making 'false' claims in regards to their current (and only) software release: Version 1.0.0

(a) Despite claiming that; "Torcoin is fully integrated with the Tor project network", the current wallet software is not automatically running over the real Tor® network and therefore exposes the users real IP address on clearnet!

Note that almost any crypto-coin on this forum can be run over the real Tor® network by configuring the proxy settings to use a Tor® daemon as a SOCKS proxy.

(b) "Torcoin is 100% Anonymous, unlike Bitcoin.  Send & Receive payments with full privacy" - Note that "Stealth" addresses are not fully anonymous, in comparison to other anonymity technologies.

(c) "By running TorCoin, you are increasing the number of nodes on the TOR network, and thereby helping people across the world remain anonymous." Again, this claim is currently false.

Torcoin's existing wallet release does not run a real Tor® network node (Relay or Exit node) when the wallet is started. "Torcoin" software is therefore not currently able to reward actual Tor® network nodes operators, as they have also claimed.

...

As someone who has hosted real Tor® software Relay and Exit nodes for more than 10 years (and have also been using Bitcoin since the year dot), I feel obliged to make the above facts known.

~ Running genuine Tor® software nodes remains a thankless and mostly unrewarded task that I choose to undertake, as I believe in the right to privacy etc.,

Furthermore, the real Tor Project Inc has long considered trying to enable said incentive mechanism's for real relay and exit node operators and various research papers have already been published;

See: https://blog.torproject.org/blog/tor-incentives-research-roundup-goldstar-par-braids-lira-tears-and-torcoin

Note that the TorCoin paper mentioned is not the "TorCoin" of this forum thread!

...

Whilst the continuing development concept for a "TorCoin" maybe somewhat feasible - I fail to see how you can remedy the above situation.

I have raised these issues multiple times and was called a fuder. Meanwhile price keeps going down and down but some people still think they will be millionaires in 2 years. I see two things happening in the near future:
a) DEV dumps his huge premine -> investors loose even more money
or
b) TOR starts sending DMCAs to the exchanges sites and investors can't sell their coins anywhere Cheesy

Whether a) or b) happens I'll be here to say "told ya"

Holy shit, these copy right issues could haunt TORcoin should they not address them! Maybe that's why TORcoin dropped, an announcement from TOR itself would do it. If these issues can be addressed I see a bright future
