on a side note r47351, i have successfully compiled wallets in linux myself.. is it just a matter of creating the conf file in the wallet folder itself to solo mine (eg. downloads/xxxcoin/), or is there a separate file created while compiling the linux version that the conf file is supposed to go into?

this is a great guide btw that can translate to other coins' wallets.. to those who care;

I appreciate my time, I prefer to get the finished product than to deal with it, how to compile the source code under windous.

It took about 4 minutes to compile the wallet, which I did while setting up the .conf file and a launch script for cgminer. It didn't take any longer than downloading a binary.

r47351, if you're gonna talk about compiling.. how about telling me this. did you compile it using virtualbox running linux inside a windows pc? is that the most efficient way to cross-compile?

I didn't compile on Windows, I built the linux version. I don't have a copy of Windows to use, even in a VM. If I did, I would look at:

http://mingw-w64.sourceforge.net/ or http://www.cygwin.com/

thank you. that is where i'll be spending the next few hours.

ETA: As an alternative for Windows miners, have you considered building a small (maybe Atom-based) "linux wallet server"? You can run Linux on it, compile the linux QT wallets and just run them as an RPC server for your Windows cgminer machines? This is basically what I do anyway. My desktop is running Debian with the QT wallets. The mining rigs running Ubuntu point to the desktop if I'm solo mining.

You can run a currency without windows-qt? Does anyone will install Linux and assembly source code? idiocy.

The source code can be built on Windows with freely available tools.

Linux users are used to this. Windows users are used to having everything provided as a binary, ready to run. There's no reason you can't do it on Windows, you just haven't needed to yet.

Something to consider is that this is still a growing community where early adopters are expected to have some "additional" technical knowledge. As the currency matures, so will the tools. Windows wallets will come if there is a viable future for the coin. Your average crypto users won't be mining. They don't need to start mining a coin within an hour of release. The mass adoption can afford to wait until a refined windows wallet is released.

I guess in short, as a miner, expect to do some leg work to stay ahead of the game.

More like a slap in the face.  I'm going to learn to compile and start doing it so this bs doesn't happen.  Or I'll just learn to make my own coin and call it the How it's done coin. I think I can hit ctrl c ctrl v.
