Xana's Proof-of-Participation (PoP) will verify cell phones to qualify for token distribution.

Here’s how it works:

Key Generation:
Each participant (e.g., cell phone owner) generates a key pair (private key, public key) when downloading Xana mobile app.
The public key is shared within the network, while the private key remains confidential.

Input Collection:
The unique identifier of the cell phone (IMEI number or other unique identifier) is used as the input for the VRF.
This identifier will be combined with a timestamp to prevent replay attacks and ensure freshness.

Random Output Generation:
Each participant uses their private key and the unique identifier to generate a random output and a proof using the VRF.
The function will look like: ( \text{VRF}_{\text{PrivateKey}}(\text{IMEI} + \text{Nonce}) ).

Distribution Calculation:
The random output determines the winner of tokens each block.
The distribution algorithm ensures fairness (lottery-based).

Verification:
Anyone in the network can use the proof to verify the legitimacy of the random output and the token distribution.
The verification ensures that the distribution is fair and cannot be manipulated by the participants.

Consensus Mechanism:
Participants collectively agree on the token distribution by verifying the VRF outputs and proofs.
The consensus protocol ensures that the distribution is transparent and tamper-proof.

Key Advantages:

Security: The use of VRFs ensure that the distribution is unpredictable and cannot be manipulated.
Fairness: Using unique identifiers like IMEI numbers ensures that every participant has an equal opportunity
Transparency: The verifiability of VRF outputs allows for transparent and trustless verification by anyone in the network.
Decentralization: No central authority is required to manage the distribution, making the process decentralized.

Considerations:

Privacy: ZKPs are being considered to protect IMEI numbers so that they are used in a privacy-preserving manner.
Scalability: Xana protocol is scalable to handle a large number of participants.
Security of Private Keys: Participants must securely manage their private keys to prevent unauthorized access.

xChain’s Two-Layer Cryptographic System

Cryptographic Framework:

Our protocol utilizes VRFs to provide secure, random number generation that is essential for cryptographic guarantees. The two-layer system involves the creation and management of node operator & end user participation keys, enhancing the security and reliability of the network.


Ephemeral Key Generation:

Both archival nodes and mobile end users can generate ephemeral cryptographic keys, referred to as “alpha strings.” These keys are linked to unique hardware identifiers such as IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) and MAC (Media Access Control) addresses. This linkage ensures the validity of each participant’s physical hardware within the network.


Proof-of-Participation (PoP):

The participation keys are utilized to validate PoP. The Xana consensus mechanism is designed to confirm active and legitimate participation in the network. This validation process helps maintain the integrity and security of the network by ensuring that only genuine users can participate in consensus activities and limits the advantages of operating a bot network.


Network Scaling:

As the network scales, both in terms of nodes and user base, the protocol naturally adjusts its difficulty. This adjustment is expressed in the block reward lottery mechanism, where increasing protocol difficulty raises the cost for potential malicious activities, thereby discouraging such behaviors.

Advantages:
