byyaaarrrrgh!

Hey folks, fellow woodsmen, critters, and denizens of the forest.
I finally decided to sign up here.  Now where'd I put that Timbersmurf icon?

Haven't hit a block (or is that a cord) in days.  Of course I'm choppin with a rusty old axe but the difficulty and hashrate seem to have gone way up lately.

Hey there acquafredda,

I would recommend pool mining, at least at first, to make sure your setup is in good working order. Solo mining will work fine as well, but somewhat more complicated to get going and takes longer to confirm that everything is correctly configured (because, variance).

You didn't mention which card model you have, so note that only recent gen cards are supported, compute 3.0 or higher (series 7xx or newer).
Go right ahead and try this miner:
https://github.com/tpruvot/ccminer/releases

The only pool that I'm aware is Suprnova:
https://wood.suprnova.cc/index.php

Sample miner launch string:
ccminer -a skein2 -o stratum+tcp://wood.suprnova.cc:1158 -u -p

Happy Mining Chopping!

Maybe this explains why I'm only finding a bundle or two every other day in my chopping via VPS...

Funk,

I have tried everything to create a vanity address using vanitygen with namespace 73 (W). For some reason, the resulting private key is not actually the address that Woodcoin imports. What's up with that?

(Am I using the wrong namespace)?

Which version of vanitygen are you using?  I'm not sure I follow.

Thanks for reminding me bitillionaire, I never finished modding the vanitygen in my github repo.  Remember woodcoin uses a different elliptic curve than all other coins (that I know of) so the algo which goes from privkey -> pubkey  is different (as well as the usual first character modification).  If you want to play around with keys, use logaddress.org (working) (wallet details) and see what different privkeys get you.

After some travels I am now back on the scene like a record machine (sayin' ooh-papa-doo, how y'all do), so hopefully I can get you a working LOG vanitygen in the next few days.  Please let me know if anyone has one working in the meantime.

Ah, well that would explain it.

I had the same result on all three versions I could track down.

Which lines need to be modified to account for the new elliptic curve? I didn't realize that this would extend to the way addresses are generated, but it makes sense in hindsight.

Happy chopping folks.  GPU chainsaws are here.

Thanks funkenstein. ccminer is working well so far. The nethash makes it possible to mine solo a little.
I'm just on it with a single 750ti to make no chainsaw massacre in this wood  Wink
I will hold and watch this coin further.

Thanks for your report PVmining!
Unfortunately I have not heard much back from the community on how the chainsaws work.  Personally I prefer the axe as well so I understand your hesitance.  Judging by the amount of sawdust in the air and the noise pollution, it looks like a few of you tried using them but nobody has undertook serious operations.  Don't be bashful, remember we are working with the blessing of the Lorax and the Ents on this project.

I am still not adding to the OP or website materials until I hear back more from the community.

Happy chopping --

So does it still make sense to chop with a CPU?

I just set up my digital ocean droplet to chop for me. I imported the private key to my local wallet to monitor progress. I hope to see a block or two found eventually. I know they have pretty fast processors.

48 LOGs in the time since I wrote this.

By my calculations, if I somehow chop 7716.3636 per month with this remote woodcutter, I have covered the cost of my hosting, at current rates. Of course the wisdom with Woodcoin is to hold b/c the difficulty is going up and up and the rarity of the coin is therefore also going up.

FYI - woodcutting.club will be relaunching not later than 20 April. Had SERIOUS spam problems, to the point where the majority of the bandwidth was being used by them. I've switched to a host with a much more generous bandwidth allotment (digitalocean) but it will be a little while before I get a new, spam-resistant site up and running.

Sounds good, thanks!  Looking forward to relinking and reconvening.  I will keep an eye out on freenode channel #woodcoin as well.

Now that I have a good server set up, I will do this very soon. Sorry for the delay.

Anyone have suggestions on a forum software with very good spam protection?

Well you all knew it was coming.  However you didn't know how or when.  Let me tell you a story.

When the elves first contacted me, if that is indeed how it happened for it is all a blur to me sometimes, I knew what to do.
I left my place, and followed the call.  Yeah yeah, at the time I told myself it was just because I liked the Elfven maidens but the truth was that I knew there was something afoot in middle earth and we were all in it together.

I got that feeling again the other day, as I was making final preparations to leave Mordor.  I saw someone arrive at the mountain where I stay, someone with a white beard and a staff.  The staff was.. wooden.  This might not seem so unusual to you but the texture was distinctly foreign, like it was from a forest older than anything here.  Instincts here are strong, and I treat him like any other orc.  However quickly I can tell that something is amiss.  His colleague who looks quite elfven is holding a contraption such as I have never seen before.  It looks like something from the pits of Saruman's deepest workshop.  And the stink is clearly not the usual orcish odor.  "Heatsink grease" the bearded one says, reading my mind.  "And two stroke engine oil".  WTF?

Time passes, things change, and we must adapt.
Immediately I pulled out my Axe.  The elf chuckled at me and whistled a tune, which reminded me of the forests of LothLorien.  The one dressed as a wizard or a drunken master leaned his staff against his case and took godawful contraption from the elf, and held it in the air.  He pulled a cord attached to it.  Suddenly the air was filled with a shriek like an orcish forge, metal on metal and explosives.  I knew the chainsaw was born.

Happy chopping folks.  GPU chainsaws are here.
