If you're using linux, the following is one of the approaches (refer to ex33s's post as well):

emacs /etc/init.d/runminer

emacs is a text editor (my favorite), you can use any the likes; add the following content and save it (be sure to change minerd's path, pool url, username, worker and password; also designate the thread numbers if you want)

make "runminer" executable and start at the boot:

The minerd's output will go into file /nohup.out, to check:

I've heard of litepaid because of the big hype about subway accepting coins. This is pretty impressive if you ask me. There is tons of companies that are joining their service. Can't wait to see how Magi takes off in the retail market.

You could make it run as a service instead of a screen.

Are you running for ex. ubuntu you could place a file in /etc/init.d/runminer with starts the miner and after that update-rc.d with the correct syntax.

No slash required after the port number 8232 but yes that is correct. You can omit the --threads and it will default to the number of processors in the machine. Running more threads than you have processors is counter-productive.

edit: oops, it's now showing that it is hashing but should i be concern that it says this "[2014-12-13 07:36:25] No payout address provided, switching to getwork" ?

First off, the message about "No payout address provided, switching to getwork" is normal and nothing to be worried about. The wallet accepts the getwork protocol in much the same way as if it were a mining pool.

You can get rid of that message by specifying --coinbase-addr=[your XMG address] as an advanced minerd.exe switch if you want, but there is really no need to.

When solo mining with the wallet, there is no hashmeter output until it mines a block, when the wallet talks back to the miner to confirm an acceptance of a block solution. It is very much like watching paint dry.

I found in practice that if hashmeter output was enabled, the miner would appear to be working but was making no real external connection - as if it was in benchmark mode. This behavior was the same when connecting to mining pools as well. For this reason, the autominer.bat / failover.bat software adds the --quiet switch to the minerd.exe command line by default.
