It was only the wind.
Are you trying to stop an action, or a state of mind?

i really want that this dont happend anymore, i mean to see how those buldozers fu*k others, btw im pretty sure that if you say that yescrypt is a good option, then this is because yescrypt is really a good option Smiley

all things that can improve magi will be always welcome from me.

What it will mostly stop is the ability for someone to hash much faster than a CPU in a cheap way.

You don't need to clone the algo - as a matter of fact, take the opportunity to tune the parameters of the KDF to your liking. While GPU miners for it are obviously possible (as for M7M), the gap in between CPU and GPU is at least currently barely existing - factoring in power makes it look even better to mine on CPU. This is about as close as you'll ever get to your stated goal - i.e. GPU mining impossible.

this makes sense for me, but what about all those buldozers that will mine it only to fu*k the block rewards, this will really solve it? i mean even if is more profitable with CPU after the algo change, they will loose hash power?

Are you trying to stop an action, or a state of mind?

I disagree. It will cause only confusion. People still confuses groestl^2 with groestl-myr. If it is called the same, it must be the same.

But I'll agree the KDF of yescrypt has... some very interesting properties.

I know, I know, not the best idea for keeping people clear on the PoW... but yescrypt has some interesting ways to play with it.

Joe - the PoW you want to use is probably the KDF Yescrypt. I'd wanna talk on IRC before recommending parameters to it, though.

Thanks for suggestion, Wolf. I'd look into Yescrypt. I read the IRC message, and will send message too; kinda busy during weekday, will find time for talk at some point.

My concerns as to the current situation which seems in existence all along are some hidden facts. Like you mentioned before, gnu miner for magi algo is possible; if you say so, I guess so. Had review of past pages and also told by some people; the fact is that most are wondering the mystery big miners in and out. This IS a concern, and to make magi step forward better to be taken care. What I wish and probably most of people wish is that magi stays at a level that everyone can mine, that equally means CPU mining, and mining should be fair that also tells any other means of mining with advantages over CPU mining should be avoided. To correct (to who like other means of mining), this is not because I hate GPU miners or things like that, but just because magi is to be what it should be and that leads to a fact that those mining wouldn't do any good to the coin.

In brief, solidified CPU mining, no others. From this point of view, Yescrypt seems an option. I am kinda avoiding simply algo clone though; so the thing gets me complex; either way, what happens now are simply open discussion.

You don't need to clone the algo - as a matter of fact, take the opportunity to tune the parameters of the KDF to your liking. While GPU miners for it are obviously possible (as for M7M), the gap in between CPU and GPU is at least currently barely existing - factoring in power makes it look even better to mine on CPU. because the reward reduction happens to delayed people with access to botnets or GPU miners can ride the waves and
the goal of reward reduction turn 180° and work against the small miner and not for them

because the spike/wave style miner dont mine when rewards are low
and "everyday joe" who mine with a few CPU 24/7 mine even at low rewards keep network ruining

what we have now is we punish AFTER the "crime" happened and not the guy who did do the crime but everyone

we need a way that make spike mining unattractive

one would be just shift low of coin rollout to POS and keep POW "just" as added hybrid security
constant mininers should be earn most of their rewards by PoM campains and not froim the real blockreward

the basic POW blockreward should be so low that it attract no abuser

the PoM campains should be funded by fat staking for mining POS wallet

just my ideas how u could solve the problem

but i guess we are in the brainstorming phase so it fits to share my ideas now

I think your ideas are good.  Reducing the PoW spike mining cycle by lowering rewards or just flattening them out so they don't increase as quickly should prevent so much hashrate being used to mine and dump.  I also like the idea of shifting to a higher percentage of blocks being PoS, and the 24/7 minter should be rewarded more.  I think to accomplish this there has to be some increased incentive for smaller blocks, and 200 XMG might be a good size.  The reason this is needed is so that the 24/7 minter is constantly staking and searching for PoS blocks.  If the ideal block size for staking is too large, the 24/7 minter will not be staking while the coins in the large block mature for 120 confirmations.

If anyone here recently sent a 500 XMG transaction and it didn't go through (from the address 965Xfbtb...), that might be because you mis-typed the address and it went to one of my old mining addresses that I had forgotten about. I'm not going to bother sending it back or forwarding it elsewhere unless someone here either PMs me or posts proof that it's their address, but I do want to give the active members of the community a chance in case they made an honest mistake. (And I know it's a mistake because I've never given that or any address out.)

In that vein, I would recommend that anyone who is sending coins from their wallet should copy and paste the destination address and double check it before sending. If you accidentally hit backspace, don't trust yourself to remember capitalization!

Might be Joe, Spexx or me. I will check my transactions later today. I will get back on this.

Was not me! Wink

Hi folks. I just got back online after a temporary absence, so I have a lot to catch up on.

I see there is talk about an updated POS system which sounds interesting. My immediate thought on this is "keep it as simple as possible" for the end user. This whole business of having to send one's coins to oneself every so often is a pain on several levels.

Mobile wallet is a good idea, but having spoken to somebody experienced with mobile devices (quite a few times) I have reservations about staking on the move. Staking is a form of mining which uses energy and we might have issues with heat generation and battery life, particularly with smaller devices.

I have Windows software in the pipeline which gives me a type of "mobile wallet" i.e. I can have the software and blockchain on a memory stick, plug that into any Windows PC that I encounter and be up and running almost straightaway.

I am doing exactly that right now Cheesy

My current situation means that I am using this often and thus giving it a good testing "in the field". It works well enough but still needs some clunkiness removed, some creases ironed out, a shave and a good haircut before release. I am not sure yet when I will be able to settle into a new place and complete this software, but efforts continue.

I still have some catching up to do on this thread ...

so you not only come back, you come back and bring us very good news Tongue

yes there is some discussions about whats need to be changes, if there is something that need to be changed for sure, you should write your opinions Wink

welcome back !!!!
