Dear CLOAK Community,

In this CloakCoin Developer Report, we want to inform you about our Codebase review from our new developer.
We listened to the community and found a dev for Cloak who is willing to work full-time for CloakCoin.
As mentioned before, we are asking the community for donations to boost the dev pace.
With weekly detailed updates, we strive to be fully transparent about the progress.

TECHNICAL ANALYTICS DOCUMENT

Github Repo: https://github.com/CloakProject/codename-phoenix

CURRENT STATUS OVERVIEW

CloakCoin & Bitcoin Codebase

There are multiple branches and suggestions for the Bitcoin Codebase. The most latest and updated branch is 0.17.cloak as viewable in the commits and reviewing source code. CloakCoin has to integrate to the branch 0.17 for further improvements and updates.
Additionally, the current code base (0.17.cloak) has also to be refactored and updated from Bitcoin 0.17

CloakCoin: https://github.com/CloakProject/codename-phoenix/tree/0.17.cloak

Bitcoin: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/commits/0.17

So far, the current code base is still not rebased by Bitcoin 0.17 and we need to perform this upgrade as the first highest priority.

The last code update included:

- resolving block hoarding mechanism by non-splitting stake txs
- changes in Sync/Pos functionality after rebase to 0.17.0.1
- refactoring of the consensus modules

ENIGMA

ENIGMA was not implemented yet and still has some issues when connecting to other nodes and syncing the blockchain.

ROADMAP INCLUDING MILESTONES:

The estimated timespan for the completion will be 5 months.

Timeline for each scope of work:

#1 Review of the Codebase including development proposal

Accomplished!

Worked hours: 2 weeks - $2.520 (not paid)

#2 Bitcoin 0.17.0.1 upgrade

Cloak: https://github.com/CloakProject/codename-phoenix/tree/0.17.cloak
Bitcoin: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/tree/0.17

Estimate: 8 weeks (~$8.000)

#3 Migrate Consensus / Mining (PoW / PoS) as used in Cloak

Consensus: https://github.com/CloakProject/codename-phoenix/tree/0.17.cloak/src/consensus

Estimate: 3 weeks (~$3.000)

#4 Implement ENIGMA functionality

ENIGMA: https://github.com/CloakProject/CloakCoin/tree/master/src/enigma
ENIGMA Enabled Nodes, Tracking ENIGMA Cloaking Nodes, ENIGMA Transaction

Estimate: 4 weeks (~$4.000)

#5 Implement CloakShield functionality

CloakShield: Generating Shared Encryption Key, CloakShield Data, CloakShield Onion Routing, Onion Routing Analogy

Estimate: 4 weeks (~$4.000)

#6 Enable Stealth Address Support

Node to Node communication

Estimate: 4 weeks (~$4.000)

The total amount for all the milestones is ~$25.520

REVIEW MILESTONE #1

In the last two weeks, the developer worked on reviewing the current status and progress of the codebase upgrade.

Working hours: 84h x $30 = $2.520

The developer will make detailed and transparent weekly reports by using developer blogs once code work will start. This is very important that all community members can track the progress of the development process / related cost and can see the results of donations regularly.

DETAILS MILESTONE #2

Original CloakCoin Codebase was based on an outdated version of Bitcoin and it will require large portions of code to be refactored and rewritten to bring a lot more stability, security, and testing capability.

Scope of work:

-Bug Fixing on the current code base and running properly (2 weeks)
    - Compile properly for the existing code base
    - Connection checking for clients
    - Clients can sync the blockchain from new or old clients
    - Check if the new client can create and validate PoS blocks
- Continue to finish the upgrade to 0.17.0.1 (6 weeks)

The developer will make detailed and transparent weekly reports by using developer blogs once code work will start.
This is very important that all community members can track the progress of the development process / related cost and can see the results of donations regularly.

Dear CLOAK Community,

I would like to give you a little pre-update on the current status of the development.

Our new developer is making good progress and has started the last week to work on the codebase upgrade. We will announce a complete analytical report on Monday which contains all information about the time frame and estimate.

We are happy to show you how efficient work is being already done on the codebase.

Every activity is documented on Hubstaff a trusted and transparent time tracking platform for developers.

Unfortunately, we received only a few donations. Keep in mind that we can solely update when we receive enough funds to pay the development. We hope that we can keep this pace and see a bright future for CloakCoin.

Every contribution counts and is pushing CloakCoin forward!

Thank you

Dear CLOAK Community,

After a long search, we finally have some good news for you!
We created a temporary donation page. The page will be graphically improved soon since our web developer is a bit busy at the moment. The most important thing is that the donation function works and we can accept your contributions.

https://www.cloakcoin.com/donate

The other good news is that we have found a new developer who is ready to upgrade the codebase. Our new dev studied computer science and has 10+ years of experience in Java, Python, JavaScript, Golang, Solidity, C++ / C# who looks forward to working with us.

Github profile: https://github.com/iMiracleDev

The costs will be around $1000 per week!
(35hr/week, full-time job)
The exact number of how many hours it takes to finish the codebase is still uncertain.

We will work transparently with your donations and will publish the progress every Monday! Keep in mind that we can solely update when we receive enough funds to pay our new dev who will give us his progress update.

Every contribution counts and is pushing CloakCoin forward!
We will keep you updated!

Thank you

I just tested the latest wallet 3.x.x really nice interface, but why those wallets are taking so much processor use? all cloak wallets use between 20-30% of my CPU after all chain is downloaded?
Facing the same problem since last year (Version 2.x.x). Have already asked for a better version. No response since then. So I canceled staking.

This problem has long been known about several versions, but apparently they are unable to fix it.  Shocked

hi there
I just tested the latest wallet 3.x.x really nice interface, but why those wallets are taking so much processor use? all cloak wallets use between 20-30% of my CPU after all chain is downloaded? I got another old school coin, blackcoin. BLK wallet uses only 0.2% of the CPU!?
For me looks like this wallet is mining another coin in the background:)
Is short staking doesn't make sense for me, as is taking too much of my laptop resourses

We are a self-funded project and we are very open in our communication towards our community. Every team member of CloakCoin is approachable via Telegram, Mail etc. We are a small dedicated team and spent a lot of time and our own money on this amazing project. The level of dedication is extremely high. You are free to reach out to anyone of them at any time. As to the Dev team from Germany, we are still waiting for their answer how to proceed, this is not our fault and the reason we gave, that is the reason they gave us.

We have a finished product that of course can improve. We are always finding ways to expand the utility of CloakCoin or how to improve our product as we did with the REVOLUTION v3 Electron Wallet and the v2222 (2x4) QT Wallet with improved ENIGMA performance. Our development is not the fastest because we pay it all from our own pockets but we can say with a clear conscience that we have a high-quality working product!

Regarding the reports you are right, there haven’t been any reports lately because the results are not there where we want. We can write down everything that we are working on but if it doesn’t come to fruition it doesn’t make sense. This doesn’t mean at all that we are not here and working hard and voluntarily to make things happen for Cloak every single day. Regarding team members being present or not, you are free to reach out to anyone of them at any time.

It’s always easy to give negative feedback about what you prone to do than to come with constructive feedback...
Why don’t you rise to the challenge and help us run it better?
You are more than welcome to reach out to iwidepiwi!

You are right. I do have a negative tone about a lot, but saying I don't come with constructive feedback or tried to reach out to you guys is a complete lie.

I have over the years giving you feedback on things from simple designs on the website to how it would give a better impression to be more transparent and act like it was a company. E.g when Cloakcoin got listed on Binance it was announced quickly on every single platform to reach your supporters with this great news, but how did it take for you guys to the same when a delisting was announced? - I believe it was three days, where is the responsibility in that? We all know the price would go down heavily because of that and therefore everyone should be informed quickly, even though it might be canceled after a talk with Binance. This shows a team that doesn't have its investors/community in mind and someone could question the motive - Was it so others would have time to dump at a higher price?
- I don't know anymore, only that moves like that is stupid and amateurish.

And regarding iwidepiwi, I reached out late 2018 so I could try and help with partnerships/getting shops to accept Cloak in my country and therefore wanted the ‘pitch’ so everything was in line with the strategy. It was told it was better to give the name to the iwidepiwi/another coordinator so it came directly from Cloak.

So please don’t say I haven’t tried to reach out to your guys with either work or feedback. It just happens to be that you are maybe not as open as you would like to think, seeing from the other side of the cloak circle, the team is no way as transparent as portrayed.

Right from the getgo, I told you guys that weekly/every other week was simply too short of a timespan for your news, after 3-6 months you finally listened and made it monthly. I also mentioned that it should be released on the same date or day (e.g 1st Monday in the month) so that people know when to look for this, still not cached on.

I might be seen as a big irritation for the team, which is fine by me at this point. I would rather use my time to warn people about this project than help it get more adoption as it is simply a failed project on so many levels and I don’t want people to lose money on such, I do have morals compared to a lot of others in this space.

I wonder when this team will actually step up and be as transparent as claimed (for years)

- They have a dev which can't be reached
- They don't won't to disclose anything about their other dev (Deepend) if he is out or not
- They claim to have a new dev/team to keep developing, but appearently they can't join atm because of COVID (we all know coding is hard from home?)
- There haven't been ANY real developing going on for years, but we all should be glad for the working product, right?
- Where is yogibear?
- Where are the monthly ''reports'' which should keep everyone informed?

The team and project has turned out to be a joke, maybe it has been for longer that I really want to realize.
No one is annoyed about things that takes time, but a team who isn't transparent and honest to its community is shit.

(I still have money in the game, but only because of the low valuation. I won't recommend anyone to invest in this, as it is poorly run.)

WowW Looks like someone made a mistake on the sell button doing an astronomical dump on the Stex exchange on May 28th.

yes the news is on the Reddit channel it's a user who confused buying with selling, he wanted to buy and he sold everything and that's two zeros wrong! apparently he opened a ticket but I highly doubt the exchange will cancel his sale

Well, maybe the exchange should add a "are you sure you want to do this" button Roll Eyes

 Grin yes for sure ^^

- Chile is a community member, not a team member who is trying to compile the code so it can run on a raspberry pi

NOTE: Something the team said could be done already in 2017, but couldn't without it going down very often.
- But 3 years is not a long time to get something like that fixed?
