I've built an update script for 32/64bit linux masternode owners.
It pulls and installs directly from dashpay.io distributed tarballs.
I may support compiling at some point.

First version, but it seems reasonably well behaved.
Let me know if you run into any bugs and I'll push fixes.

I'll add more utilities over time, this is just a starting point.

one word; 51-attack  Wink

To this day, there has never been a 51% attack, ever, in any coin. Do you even understand how it works? It's a theoretical concept that ALL PoW algorithms "suffer" from, and basically makes the attacker bankrupt. It will allow for 1 double spend before the entire network realizes it, and even if he has 75%+ and manages to highjack the blockchain entirely, every one else would leave. (Like what is happening with Bitcoin-XT) - essencially, destroying the entire value of the coin. And that, does not happen in one 51% attack. a 51% attack theoretically would allow you to spoof ONE block and performa a double spend.

Where would you double-spend a few coins? Buy a TV in Overstock.com, and have UPS block the shipment once the companie realizes that block got orphaned later on?

Since there are no ASIC's, could someone please calculate the cost of how many 290x's + electrical bill to get over 50GH/s of mining power?

Stop making a fool of yourself. You are not making serious questions. The 51% attack has been debated within bitcoin while Satoshi was still posting. We've all witnesses Slash's Pool at 60%, we've all seen GHash.io reach 60%.

  51-attack is not one word, it's an alpha-numeric mash-up.

 Don't be silly.

@b1007 before i ignore him like rest of FUDsters

You say that "three letter" agencies can shut down DASH cryptocurrency network... again, bold statement!

Son, how can "three letter" shut down something that is not in their jurisdiction ... well they can try, but HOW?

i see you are smart guy, tell us how do you think they can stop one cryptocurrency network? or in this case how they can stop Masternode?

If there is solid earning involved in MN, in future, belive me son... i will put my masternode in Pi like MangledBlue, put it in middle of forrest, feed it with solar power and some wacky internet that have static IP...

they find it... stop it... destroy it...but only SERVER, my funds are way hidden from them... and i do it again for low cost, and miracle circle goes and goes... and i was talking about 1 masternode... what about other 3000+ ? Smiley

Thank you so much for this! With this update script and SuperPutty, my MN updating schedule just got 90% freed up! Sweet....

H all

Just suzzed I can ssh into my masternode from my phone. I have downloaded and extracted lastest .49. Is there a way to start the new version from my phone without cold wallet ??

Thanks

I didn't have to restart mine for this latest update.

If you just updated from a previous version on the same protocol, and if your masternode hasn't been offline for more than an hour, you may find that your masternode is already started.

Once ./dashd is running, Try ./dash-cli masternode status

If it doesn't come back with a message saying it is successfully started, wait a few minutes and try the command again.

b1007 is an obvious troll just stirring the pot. Didn't matter what you answered, it was going to be the same BS response regardless. Crypto in its entirety doesn't even make a dent in the combined usage of fiat in illicit trade.

Next year I'll be back quoting my post and telling everypony in here "told you so"  Wink Wink Cheesy Grin

Every new troll deserves at least one quote for good riddance.

What ... about... the ... story ...of ... the ... rise... of ....*pause for effect* .... Bitcoin ??  Silk Road ?

You are a major ding-dong. Most pathetic argument I've heard all year. Go read about Snowden and Assange, dwell into Aaron Swartz, then come back with a more profound knowledge of what's really going on in the world.

Your encephalon is shamed by a jelly-fish.

Google "cognitive dissonance reduction", you are obviously suffering from it. Dash is already mentioned in darkweb illegal enterprises. What do you think three letter agencies are going to do when they notice Dash is being used for illegal activities? To them Dash investors don't even matter, they just shut down the entire network... Wink

I think you will find that the most obvious answer is the agencies will focus on tracking down the perpetrators of illegal activities rather than attempting to shut down the entire network as you describe.

In any case, Dash has been rebranded and re-aligned to support the goal of becoming a mainstream cryptocurrency, and services will be built to support this goal.

With regards to future prospects, do you agree that Dash has already made great strides in solving many problems currently plaguing Bitcoin? If not, you need to do some more reading to grasp what has been created here.

when you talk about that 51% attack, you say only DASH is vulnerable to that exploit ?

or you are here acting like a little baby, crying because nobody want to answer you.... think again, maybe your attitude have something with that Smiley

we cruched that topic like 100x times, and only reason why nobody wants to answer you because there is answer if you go back and read some of the posts on this thread.

one more thing, you say DASH will be only for drugs... thats a bold statement, because with that logic ... todays cash is only been used for DRUG KINGS and for nothing else... well thats just FUD tbh

Tongue

probably you will get on many's ignore list if you continue like this Smiley have fun

nobody replied to my previous post. I guess it's true then, Dash can never be adopted by the masses because its anonymous features will make it a likely trader coin amongst drug king pins and as such Dash is extremely vulnerable to a 51-attack by government agencies...Or is there anything that can be done to prevent a 51-attack on Dash? If not, forget about Dash and move on...

I don't think Dash can ever overtake the USD for being the most desired currency for the drug trade.  I have no idea why you think privacy equates to illegal activity.  It equates to personal freedom.  Every coin that is decentralized is suseptable to a 51% attack.  However, the older and more mature the coin, the less likely that is to happen.  In DASH's case, the Masternode network can actually help ensure against a 51% attack.  Even so, it's highly unlikely Dash will suffer a 51% attack at this point in it's development.  I don't know why you think it's "extremely vulnerable"?  Anyway, I highly suggest that you yourself, forget about Dash and move on.  You'll be much happier and so will we Smiley

hi my good friend, how you doing?

tell me, i have dash-cli and dashd on root folder of my user, and i want it there, not in hidden folder .dash

i just looked the code and i think i need to edit location of my dash-cli and dashd in code!

Help me a little, because most of us have dash-cli and dashd on root folder
Will edit have impact on rest of the code?

From
DASH_HOME="$HOME/.dash"
DASH_CLI="$DASH_HOME/dash-cli"

To
DASH_HOME="$HOME/."
DASH_CLI="$DASH_HOME/dash-cli"

EDIT: that did the trick

After editing that
masternode@vultr:~/dashman$ ./update_dashd.sh
gathering info... DONE!

dashd version 0.12.0.49 is up to date. Exiting.

Edit2: nothing to do with your update script
3 of 4 of my MN had no problems with ./dash-cli masternode start

but one of them says
Not capable masternode: Hot node, waiting for remote activation.

:/  and i did same for all of them... i just did -reindex and deleted peers.dat on that MN but no help, any clue why is this happening?

Give it a few minutes and it will show masternode successfully started Smiley  It just needs time Smiley

tell me, i have dash-cli and dashd on root folder of my user, and i want it there, not in hidden folder .dash

I'm going to upgrade it to support destination folders eventually.
Or you can just add ~/.dash to your path:

Code:
export PATH=~/.dash:$PATH
(place that in your .bashrc for it to be permanent)

3 of 4 of my MN had no problems with ./dash-cli masternode start

but one of them says

Updating from version 12 to 12 (protocol 70103) doesn't require sending a start.

In fact, every time you send start now you push yourself to the end of the list. So don't do that.

Just be patient.  Send start if it's still offline two hours after updating.
(At that point, it's already dropped off the list anyways.)

I am not a shill account. I am simply an entrepreneur and crypto enthusiast.

I know how to use the ignore button AdamWhite. I wasn't logged on when reading BCT on my phone, and happened to see your post calling me out.

The structure of the Dash project makes it the most interesting crypto project that I have seen in a long time, it is the true Honey Badger IMO.

Anyway, keep posting away and see what happens. No need to quote or address me anymore as it seems you aren't willing to pay to play.

Please don't let AdamWhite bother you.  Ignore him, and when you're not logged in, skip over whatever trash he's talking, and relax.  Anyone who has been here more than a month knows the trolls Smiley  It's better never to acknowledge as they feed off of any kind of attention Smiley

So no worries, don't let them get under your skin.  If you're not sure, just look at their post history, and you'll know what animal you're dealing with.

I can imagine ... https://i.imgur.com/TS6toQd.jpg
Funny thing is... And as Weird as it may sound you get a sort of kinship with them... When both they and you have been on here do long that they become... Some kind of warped family,  kind of.  Wink  put on ignore and it's all peaceful.

Very nice, maybe add MD5 or SHA256 sum checking for the tarball?

Thanks! And yes, good idea. Added.  Wink
