US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) director Jennifer Shasky Calvery said during a speech today that her agency is in the process of investigating businesses in the digital currency ecosystem. http://www.coindesk.com/fincen-director-examiniation-digital-currency/
is the foundation prepared for Fincen?
if there is any irregularities found with dash and its hit with a fine, who pays?  ( tante tried to answer this, thanks )
will my mn funds be taxable as capital gains tax?( if fincen get access to the reference node they will know my mn payments i think)
with a btc merchant license i may not be allowed to accept dash.
now im sure most US citizens know...US federal law makes it a felony to intentionally lie to government agents. It’s like being under oath any time you talk to a government agent – except that it’s actually worse: if you testify in a courtroom, a stenographer records your testimony in open court. But when you talk to an FBI agent, the only record of your conversation are the notes that the agent writes up back in their office.
cmon dash, we really need to be thinking ahead, i hope the foundation has plans for these issues.  http://www.coindesk.com/government-knocks-your-door-bitcoin/

i'm not sure how much value to place on above post from someone so involved in the XMR vs DRK thread
(and then clearly on the side of XMR) but i am interested to see if there is any truth to it.

Hi everyone! I was reading my news feeds and I came across this today.

http://venom.crowdstrike.com

It's a major security vulnerability in the virtualization software in QEMU which affects Xen and its derivatives, as well as many KVM appliances. Any MasterNode running a VPS should be considered compromised and their logs exposed with this flaw until their host patches it. MasterNode operators will have to completely wipe out their VPS and reinstall from scratch once their host is patched, unless their compromised host had additional unpatched software that allowed attackers to install a rootkit on the host system.

It would be great in situations like this if there was a way for us to only use MasterNodes we trust, especially as this affects maybe 90% to 95% of MasterNodes.

What about starting off with 100% Yea? giving people 2 weeks to vote Nay and if its still over 51% at end, then the vote passes.
This would do away with some of the apathy and inspire people to turn up for the ballet.

Bad idea.  Very bad idea.

I'm sure we'll be making a lot of history along our journey!

Glad to see the DGBB's been passed. Now to see how it works in practice, and make adjustments if need be.

I think that would be onerous once we've got multiple projects to vote for. I really only want to vote for projects that I think will benefit DASH. I don't want the burden of voting NAY for projects that either a) don't benefit DASH, or b) I can't understand.

i rather like current setup (starting with abstain and working towards yea or nay) but i think we need to intensify our communication
efforts towards informing masternode owners about new or current voting proposals.

We could perhaps use the dashninja site which is widely used by masternode owners to inform them there is a new voting proposal that
needs their attention ..  kinda like how masternode owners get informed on that site a new masternode version is out.

edit : now i think about it, we could also maybe try to implement something like a messaging system that can be used within the Dash wallet
for these kind of important messages .. a decentralised secure messaging system that can be used to alert masternode owners.
Perhaps complement it with the ability to have it sent you emails about important messages as well.

Yeah I was tempted to answer and then thought it was better to continue with the ignore troll policy. It is amazing though, how some people in crypto like to throw the term decentralized around and apply it to everything like some sort of mantra. I think is the inability to distinguish between:

- Technical decentralization = having nodes running independently from different locations, servers, IPs, jurisdictions etc.

- Decentralized governance, having people with different backgrounds, in different locations and that don't even know each other in real life make coordinated decisions based on a bond of trust they establish with the network and vote accordingly to the level of risk they are taking. Is a decentralized stake holders assembly where the stake holders don't even have to know each other and that anyone can participate in if they want to without any sort of previous approval. It is really cool but it has nothing to do with everyone having the same level of investment capabilities.

- Who said anything about a market being a democracy? A free market also means that if you have a lot of capital to invest you can do it. Crypto is not and should not be some sort of socialist well-fare system. It is a vehicle to have a free and independent economy where anyone can participate proportionally to their investment and risk taking capacity, without borders.

I'm a little concerned that the entire MN network can reach 80%+ compliance with a protocol bump within 48 hours, but that 96 hours after an MN vote is initialized, we still have less than 50% participation...and the voting process is not that difficult (log into VPS, type "./dashd masternode vote yea" and log off VPS).

The vote is open for 2 weeks.

If you look at the Etherum sale, most were sold at the last minute. People were (conjecture) waiting to see what was what.

Then there are those that don't keep up with the threads (or go MIA, see above).

Being on the wrong protocol means you can get bumped off the network, so I guess people check for some things.

Also, abstain basically = no. What's to say no voters can't be bothered to vote, because they have by default?

It's true that abstain is a "soft" no, but all abstentions become irrelevant once the preset quorum is reached (in this case, 50%+1). I doubt abstention is presently being used as a negative voting strategy, since a "hard" no would be durable no matter how many people had voted. At this point, abstentions look like apathy.

P.S. I'm wondering of Otoh's 25% of the MN network has voted or not. If not, it could indicate that he is reluctant to overly influence the project (unlike what some detractors have said) in which case it implies that only 25% of the network is not participating.

One person controlling 25% of the network is decentralized?  Can someone please explain.

Well, as I logged in on my computer, I wasn't signed in to BTC so I saw Mrpumperitis's comment (not realizing I normally have him on ignore)  And I read that he is worried that there will be no organization to pay fines if DASH were fined like Ripple, et al were.

I just wanted to say, all currencies and exchanges that have been fined were dealing in fiat.  They were selling IPOs or outright selling and exchanging fiat for coins.  This requires a license and adherence to certain "know your customer" laws.

If you don't touch fiat, it doesn't apply.  At least not yet in the USA, and although I'm sure they're working on how to regulate crypto currencies, I don't think it will be easy.  It has to be enforceable and apply only to their jurisdiction.

At this point in time, DASH has nothing that needs to be regulated.

That is not true.  Masternodes are revenue generating and as such fall under FinCen regulation.  DASH is too small for the authorities to bother with right now.

You cannot compare dash and xmr. I think we are settling here before another big move north. The next one will leave us resting above 0.02 I would suggest. Just have to be patient .

That's correct.  You cannot compare XMR to dash.  XMR is an anonymous cryptocurrency.  DASH is a centralized collection of gimmicks.

Great! This must be the first blockchain based voting process for a decentralized organization. I think this method will be used more in the future for many applications not only cryptocurrencies.

No that would have been Heavycoin which allowed miners to vote on the blockchain for the block reward.  DASH is not decentralized when one entity controls 25% of the masternodes.

Ok so we can talk about something else now :-)

Hopefully with this out the way we can talk about the Dash Space Station proposal

And well done to all who made the right choice!

It is quite a thing..

When is the two weeks up? When does the dash decentralised governance voted in party start?

Never because with one entity controlling 25% of all masternodes it is not decentralized.

If Otoh with his 600++ MNs just voted, you have your answer.

How can dash be decentralized when you rely on one entity that controls 25% of all masternodes to vote?

By the way, Stellar just passed dash for the number 4 spot on CMC.

Congratulations everyone, looks like it's a GO!

So what will be the first proposal?  I think it should be to make monthly payments to the developers.  Then marketing budget Smiley

When will this kick in?
