The main dev for Bitcoin doesn't think like Evan, which will ultimately been the downfall in the "price" of Bitcoin and the rise of a new crypto. Bitcoin will still be around and be used everywhere. But it won't have the same features or price that Dash has. Remember when everyone was using Microsoft and then Apple came along? This is what will happen to Bitcoin. Look at Microsoft stock vs Apple stock. Microsoft still today has more users, but Apple is worth more.

evan: i wanna change this, change that, buy that, steal that, and that and that

bitcoin: wtf? build your own scamcoin..we stay true and untainted.

and to the people out there saying bitcoin is dead.

(hidden message) give me your bitcoins and i'll give you my darkcoins  Grin

Hmm, just noticed bitcoinwisdom has removed it's separate LTC/fiat bit.

I see it listed on the top ticker still...

I'm sure it used to have its own big box between the Bitcoin and Altcoin sections. Probably went months ago, I don't visit bcw that often.

That is actually since today. Lite coin is losing its 'special alt status'

They did this in the past & then it reappeared again Huh

...

Great work everyone.

(I would still have voted for the branding to be otohcoin.  Maybe we can have this as a discussion point every 600 pages)

Hi, pleased to meet you. If you want to have a bit of a play with one of darkcoin's wallet features, create a new receiving address as usual, then goto send and tick the instantX in the bottom right hand corner(untick darksend as no anonymous send is required) and use your own address as the recipient. There is a small fee for the instantX but it gets the point across well visually just how powerful the masternodes can be, how many seconds do you make it?  Cool

It's an interesting exercise to compare the Litecoin "On Balance Volume" with the darkcoin on balance volume and the darkcoin price for the same period.

Aside
Think of comparing a river and a stream and only measuring the speed of the flow. The two might be the same. But if you multiply the speed by the cross-sectional area of the flow channel, you'll get a measure called the 'volume flowrate' which takes into account how much water is being moved as well - not just the velocity. (in units of cubic metres per second instead of just metres per second). Well, just looking at price is like just looking at the speed - not the volume flowrate.

The on balance volume isn't quite like that because it's a bit cruder of a measurement - it simply pluses or minuses the volume to a running total at the end of the time slice - but it does give a volume oriented trend for long term analysis which is quite informative when compared with just price.

Observations
The first interesting thing to notice is that this indicator gives a more consistent signal than the price. For example, we can see that Litecoin's huge pump back in November 2013 (just prior to the China-driven bitcoin rally to $1000) isn't nearly as pronounced in volumetric terms as it is in price. The Litecoin OBV has in fact been in consistent decline going all the way back the June 2013, despite that November pump.

The second interesting thing is that on the OBV chart, Darkcoin/DASH is already above its all time high of last year despite the fact that the price is still a way off it. As stated above, that doesn't mean anything in absolute terms - it's a relative indicator, but a leading one. Notice that when the OBV signal only dropped 30%  from last year's all time high, the price signal dropped right back by over 70%. On the recent rise however, OBV has soared almost in exact proportion to the price indicating that there's potentially quite a significant volume driven move afoot.

The thing about the OBV metric is that it was invented as a way to detect "coiled spring" conditions in the market where this indicator can give advanced warning of scenarios that have not yet manifested themselves in the price but have in the volumetric analysis.

i.e. comparing with price signal, may indicate 'coiled spring' condition.      ^^^^  (P.S. "same scale" should read "same timescale")

Question:

Let's say Dash passes Litecoin and is fighting for 1st place with Bitcoin, would it help or hurt Dash if it forks away from Bitcoin and become it's own separate coin?

First, it won't happen for a long while. There is way too much VC money invested in BTC > read, tons of people working on the Bitcoin protocol and connecting with it.

Having said that, second, staying closely aligned with Bitcoin means its easier to make the switch. The one that becomes the market leader gets to set the pace on development work.

It would be no different to developers having to make choices about IOS vs. Android.

One thing is for sure, all the above means that adoption for Monero is likely to be a pipe dream, at best.

Yea, not relying on Bitcoin core code. What if Bitcoin get's stuck? Code stops working or a major flaw is found that can't be fixed or it doesn't make sense to fix it.

I'm a tad confused - could you rephrase? Do you mean no longer relying on Bitcoin core?

I would guess that wouldn't happen since so much of the base code is standard and there isn't really a benefit to replacing stuff like older API's that are well known
