If you can be anything, be kind and fair
stop criticizing DASH.

Evan chose it.

I'm sure he's lawyering it up to protect our new brand.

Has he ever broken our trust?

Trust him.

We are here because of Evan.

I became inspired by toknormal's storyboard about AdamWhite's investment's story. So I took the liberty to fork that project into a full blown feature film.

I hope tok is ok with it, I didn't ask for his permission to use it... In any case, please keep in mind this is a dramatisation and not factual footage (of course), but generally my reasoning is a picture is worth a thousand words...

My thought is while the name dash helps convey the purpose of the project, brand identity may become obscured.

My solution: call it Decentralized Dash.  If the objective of changing the name is to attract newcomers to cryptocurrency, the word "Decentralized" will help articulate one of the reasons of the project's importance, and may provide a catalyst for research by newcomers. It would also help keep brand identity from being muddled.  Just think of the meme generation for a project referred to as Double Ds.

Another idea:  Call it Anonymous Dash.  While using the word "Anonymous" may seem redundant, it doesn't matter; It'll help drive the point forward.  Immediately seeing the word dash would likely indicate transaction speed.  The word Anonymous helps reinforce bitcoin's shortcomings.  The coin could come to be known as A.D. or After Darkcoin.

Dash - "Downloadable Cash"

So this 3 or 4 businesses now using 'Dash' in the money/cash/payment/software related business?

1. http://www.getda.sh/
2. http://www.dash.com.sg/index.html
3. Don't remember
4. Not sure
more?

I think there was a parking payment one and a financial software company too.  I know people are trying to make the best out of the name and show support for it but lets be real here.  If you want adoption why pick a name that can cause confusion with already established business?

owner: We already accept Dash.  Why do I want to accept it again?  Oh, you're different?  Why do you use the same name?

customer: Which Dash payment do you take?

Trademarks work on a category by category basis.

If anyone has successfully trademarked DASH within financial services, then that would be an issue. Provided Dash doesn't open up clothing stores, it shouldn't matter. But that's why people need to do trademark searches, plus wait to hear from anyone that might object to an application before they are granted.

www.getda.sh was founded in 2011.  Years before Dark or Dash ever existed.  Think Dark could win a trademark case against them?  What about these other Dash trademarks?

Trademark Registration of Common Words or Phrases

I thought this would be a good opportunity for everyone to learn a little bit more about trademarks.

An extract from the article:

Quote
Clients oftentimes call me to ask if they can get a trademark registration on a “common word” or a “common phrase.” The question itself is always asked with a doubtful tone, as if they already know the answer is “no.” To their surprise, however, the answer is a resounding “YES!”. Or at least in some cases it is.

One example that I like to give to clients is that of Apple Inc., the famous computer and software manufacturer. The word “apple” is a very common word, and yet Apple Inc. had no problem trademarking the term “APPLE” for computers and computer programs. Nor did Apple Rubber Products, John Middleton Co., and Scholastic, Inc. All of those companies, and many others, own trademark rights to the single word “APPLE”.

Why was this allowed? Because the word “apple” is an arbitrary word when used in connection with the manufacture and sale of computers and computer programs, or tobacco products, or educational materials. That is, there is nothing about these products that relates to “apples”. Accordingly, the term “APPLE” is actually a pretty strong trademark, as is the case when you apply a completely arbitrary term (however common it may be) to promote your products or services.
