I posted the details in the Dashcoin thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.10777298 The trademark being opposed by the Darkcoin Foundation is USPTO application number 86377359. Well he spoke about trademark here and patents somewhere on DCT so it was confusing. Without having any actual number or precise informations it's hard to tell what's going on.

r4vani, I must confess, I was almost persuaded by your first plea, but your subsequent requests have dissuaded me. GhostPlayer's 1st response should have at the very least inspired you to ask for suggestions as to what you might do to help the community. For you to insult a potential benefactor because you do not like his wise counsel, does not bespeak a character ready for unwarranted blessing.

I at one point foolishly rebuked some hi-rolling gamblers who complained of their losses. (Or is that looses? ) I suggested next time they wanted to gamble they simply send something to my MN fund. I was properly rebuked--it was their funds, and I had no right to try and guilt-trip or moralize--especially for my own benefit. I had few tech skills, but lent my voice in support of various community initiatives and values (like I'm doing now), and low and behold have received what I consider to be a significant number of tips. One very significant one (I just realized after recounting the gambling incident!) might have been from one of those gamblers! (You know who you are, and thank you again. )

I still do not have a MN, but I am within striking distance--just a bit over 100 DASH to go, so yes, I may not be a whale, but I do consider myself a big fish in this pond--one about to join the "new-money Elite." (See, I can't even do that 1337 thingy.)

So r4vani, my friend (I hope), listen to what the kind folks here are trying to tell you; prove yourself useful and faithful, leave off the begging, and maybe you can undo your poor start here. I have already committed my 1st ten MN payments to folks struggling to earn their nodes. You have some time, and might yet make the list--and that would make me very happy.  

Just to be specific, any dispute here would not be regarding "patents" but rather "trademarks"... which I'm quite sure Evan said is being dealt with...

Not worrying about the legal stuff as Fernando and a couple others on the foundation board are lawyers. As for dashcoin, the slimball is their dev who sold the github to Evan. Evan did nothing wrong. If that community wants to fork the coin and still call it dashcoin or whatever that is fine. We are not rebranding to dashcoin anyway.

As for the actual rebrand,

DASH was originally suggested by the community and since the annoucement the vast majority have rallied around the name.  Of course some people will be upset like you or Vertoe and decide to sell.

Actually, I feel bad for the long time holders that are not showing enough foresight to keeping holding. After all the coin fundamentals have not changed and now we are much more marketable. There is a good chance that long time holders who are selling now just because of a name change will be very very upset with themselves in a year or two's time.

I bought my first DASH back in February 2014 right after the name was changed from Xcoin to Darkcoin... I was very attached to the name. But after reading story after story after story from the hardworking people trying to increase adoption all saying that the name is holding us back I decided that my loyalty to the name was just a silly, emotional personal problem. In the end, as an investor I want to see my investment increase -- and if that means getting over my personal attachment to the name and suffering short term losses due to uncertainty in the market then so be it...

We moved forward under the advice of trademark attorneys.  Until the legal process is complete it's unlikely much information will be released.  Our decisions are aligned with the community as we are simply taking the necessary steps towards making this the most widely accepted anonymous and instant cryptocurrency. 

It's sad to see the coin being renamed to a brand that already has patents filed on it... moreover that is also an existing coin that's been here a while.

Those are some of the reasons why I decided to empty my DRK stash and move on. It's kind of a slap in the face for the early DRK people.

Anybody would happen to know the filing number of the challenge application? Would be interesting to see.

Not really, it is pretty transparent as you can see. I am happy to see you forked the project, I was going to suggest that, as we never intended to delete it. Good luck with the new coin.
