Evan is absolutely, 100% a single point of failure.  While devs like Vertoe are amazing and worth their weight in gold, I do not believe (but would love to be wrong) that they can step into Evans shoes and get Darkcoin's core code to the point it needs to be.  There will come a point where Evan is no longer a single point of failure, but at this point, if Evan got hit by a bus or pulled a Mr. Spread, the value of Darkcoin would tank.  I suspect that won't be the case a year from now.

As someone who had a closer look or three into the Darkcoin-coding let me slightly disagree with you.

I am 100% positive that flare, vertoe and UdjinM6, supported by "my first language is blockchain!"-Aswan, "I integrate KeePass in one weekend"-freynder and Patrick "Netfilter" McHardy can do this.

Will it be easy? Certainly not.

Will they need a helping and or two? You bet!

But Darkcoin will survive!

Yep community here is second to none, brilliant. I added some more today as well, I think this is the "new" bottom...

Likewise.  I spent literally the last of my investable cash on DRK yesterday.  Lets see what this baby can do.

Ther is this thing called github, that Mr.Spread knows intimately too well.

How does on pull a Mr.Spread? What happened?

Oh god, he disapeared?

Yep.  Days before we theorize masternodes were coming to mainnet.  He didn't spend his coins, he just vanished.  He created what many feel was a very elegant system and *poof*

Makes you break out the tinfoil.

if he did not sell his coins then he probably just disappeared to cause a panic and buy the dip before a big development release. if he was not hit by a bus then he will be back in the next few/several days and implement the spr masternodes on mainnet.
seeing the cult like following of some members over there he will quickly be forgiven as the price rises again. it's a win win for mr spreads pocketbook but not so much for his long term (anonymous) reputation.

Is Vertoe also a DEV with SpreadCoin??

http://spreadcointalk.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=but234e2km1s0tuokrklbpnhi2&topic=45.0

seemed a bit odd.....

No.  They just understood that having a professional rather than caustic relationship with other coins can be very beneficial to Darkcoin.  Vertoe is a true leader and Darkcoin is very lucky to have them.

I think I can speak for most people who have been here since Jan-Feb 2014 when I say, there's nothing that can faze us anymore.

That's one of the concerns I have.  In some respects, a cult-like following is emerging.  When your leader can do no wrong, you are not being objective.

There's nothing wrong with believing in your dev team--especially as they continue to deliver. Further, you can certainly remain objective. Lastly, the whole project no longer hinges on one man. Unless you are physically contributing code yourself, you're going to have to put some trust in those coding away (a team that has been pretty open about their identities).

If it turns out, El Spreado was on an extended Chinese New Year holiday and was merely buying the dip in stealth mode and he comes storming back with yet more game changing ideas, are you going to dump us again at the merest hint of fresh github updates and sell your 20 btc's of darkcoin at a loss then or what?  Roll Eyes

I agree. So quick to write us off, yet hes back!!

Welcome back MyFarm!!! (Now where's that sarcasm font)

If you read my posts over the last two months, it would be obvious that I never wrote Darkcoin off and that has not changed.  I still have plenty of Darkcoin and believe in Evan.

Sub-Ether, would I continue to support Spreadcoin is the dev came back and had a LEGITIMATE excuse for his absence and lack of communication?  Yes.  Even if he doesn't come back, I'd still love to support new coins lead by top-tier devs that utlize Darkcoin technology.  I believe competition can only benefit Darkcoin if Darkcoin is smart and nimble in the way it approaches that competition.  And if it's not and Darkcoin gets passed by that competition, so be it.  That means something better has emerged and I'm always happy to support innovation.

I just added 20btc worth of DRK to my position.  This is the first Darkcoin purchase I have made in a LONG time.  I am still very bothered by the centralized reference node Darkcoin employs and hope that removing it becomes a priority.  In my opinion, Darkcoin is vulnerable in its dominant position as the king of anonymity until that happens.  All it will take is one top tier dev who sees the chink in Darkcoin's armor and doesn't fucking disappear Wink

Once the reference node issue is finally resolved, I suspect we'll be seeing ATH's for Darkcoin.

I agree that the ref node has to go and I believe that it is seen as a high priority for the dev team.

However, why does everybody get so freaked out by it?  Its a temporary and elegant solution to a problem.  Without it, we'd just go back to variance in masternode payments.

I stand to be corrected but it is not an attack vector for the network.

I agree, it literally poses no risk to any part of the system.

Lesson learned today: Speaking of trustless, never trust your hope and money to a project with an anon developer.

I have never in my (internet) life felt as much trust towards someone as I do towards Evan. I've never met him, all I know is that he said he was going to do things, and then he did them, over and over. There's a reason he won the proof of honor award, there are so many of us here who feel grateful to have him as our chosen altcoin developer (and the rest of the team obviously).

There were points last summer with RC2 etc where mistakes were made (growing pains) which made me doubt altcoins in general and Evan too at one point, and then he came through time after time to build an unbelievable product. I think I can speak for most people who have been here since Jan-Feb 2014 when I say, there's nothing that can faze us anymore.

Oh and don't get hit by a bus please Evan.

Agreed. It's crazy how professional and upstanding Evan and team are as they push forward on Darkcoin. There were certainly a fair share of growing pains through 2014, but starting 2015 off, we're so far different than where we began and the development pipeline continues to flow. Darkcoin (and Darksend for that matter) continue to get polished and more refined. Darkcoin really is, when you start putting pen to paper, a better Bitcoin and hopefully the team realizes the ground that is being laid here.

I really hope Evan publicly announces his commitment to the project for another X number of years.

...and if I ever get a chance to meet any of the team in person, the drinks are on me. :-)
