Thank you but I own a lot of masternodes and am trying to get them on VPS others aren't on to avoid centralization.

evan mentioned a hoster that accepts darkcoins, but you would have to configure several mn on one server. And it wasnt too cheap, but hey then you at least are doing something for the dark economy with the money Smiley

What Evan mentioned was not very cheap - $15 a month. Which at these prices means most of your MN payments you would have to use to pay for hosting. Not acceptable I'm affraid.

Evan -- the Spreadcoin dev is supposedly working on allowing masternodes to have dynamic IPs: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.10193497

Initial masternode implementation will not require you to have a static IP. Instant transactions simply don't require this: someone broadcasts transaction, masternode receive this transactions, sign it and broadcasts this signature, there is no need for anyone to directly connect to masternodes. Nodes will monitor time delays between receiving transactions and confirmations from masternodes and will assign scores for each masternode according to these delays. This score and deposit amount will affect which masternodes will receive payments.

What is actually important here is not a whether your IP address is static or dynamic but whether or not you can accept incoming connections. I want to make it optional in the future so that if your masternode can accept connections you will broadcast your IP address, if your IP address is dynamic then you will just broadcast another message to announce your new address. Both initiator of transaction and masternodes want to confirm transaction as fast as possible and initiator will be able send transaction directly to required masternodes, since this will decrease delays between transactions and confirmations masternodes which can accept connections will be valued higher.

Requiring masternodes to have static IPs and accept connections makes network more centralized because many people will run their masternodes on hostings like Amazon, we don't want many of our masternodes to be located in the same datacenter, right? Possibility to rebroadcast your address fixes this at least partially because you don't need to have static IP and may be able to accept connections on your home computer (this depends on your ISP).

Is there any possibility of us doing this?  I currently spend over $80.00 per month on VPS and going up.  At some point when I'm done buying DRK, I will need to sell DRK each month to cover my VPS costs and I'm sure others will do the same, causing downward price pressure.  But I have a 100mb pipe available to me and a load of laptops.  If I was able to use dynamic ips, I could save a boatload of money and not pressure DRK with eventual sells.

The IP obfuscation technology I'm working on supports local IPs. The direction we were going is to create a multi-path communication technology, where traffic flows through the peers, not directly.

However, I'm not sure it's a good idea to allow local IPS. We want the masternode network to run on high quality datacenters for the most part, for the syncing capabilities, propagation, Darksend and InstantX. High quality machines will make a much more robust network.
Thanks for the response!

I just launched a new service, offering Social Media Action Campaigns, and I'd like to set up a free 3 Day campaign for Darkcoin while we test our system.
The campaigns are like a fountain that pays out based on social media actions (tweet, like follow, etc) that the users perform.
So you not only get new followers and coin users by giving out free coins, but you also build up a social media frenzy that attracts even more people!

To see an example, check out our Demo Campaign:
http://promoplugs.com/Campaign.aspx?CID=32

Their are two forms of campaigns. the 1st is a Raffle system, where a select few (as few as 1) are selected to earn a moderately large sum at the end of the campaign.  Alternatively, and generally with better results, you can choose to pay out a small sum for every action performed. This type of campaign takes a significant amount of management, 50-100 addresses to pay out a day on a good campaign. I could not manage this campaign myself, and so we'd need to find someone trustworthy within our community to handle the payouts and Campaign funds.

To be clear, this is completely free outside of paying out the users. I request that no coins, bounty, or payments of any kind be sent to me unless I am handling payouts myself..

Funds will need to be raised for payouts if the community is interested.
I'd like someone to volunteer to manage payouts if possible. Otherwise I'll run a raffle style campaign.

Does anyone know how long a node must be offline to be out of the payment cycle? Is restrarting a node with -reindex going to put me out of the cycle?

71 minutes and no.

I get the feeling it was a mistake to open source InstantX so early.

What? There isn't even a working implementation yet, further, you need a network for it be functional.

Exactly. Right now Spreadcoin has only removed code to prevent pool mining and haven't implemented any features.

All their talk about their implemention of Masternodes serve no purpose whatsoever for them at the moment.

I don't think that solo mining only is a great solution for the problem they were trying to solve. It limits the network growth and makes it vulnerable to other type of issues, like people with higher hashrates or optimized miners taking advantage more easily, other than that I don't see any original ideas.

It is a free world many developers have decided to contribute and help Darkcoin directly, others may do it in their own separate way. Darkcoin is a first mover in this market segment and I dont think that can be replicated, early adopters of copy cats never sell their coins as they are expecting their coin to do what DRK did. On the contrary many early adopters of first movers like BTC or DRK do sell as there is no reference of price in that particular market segment, so a more natural distribution is achieved and a greater chance of a network effect.

I think Evan is wise and humble enough to take any good code that can improve DRK and add it, if and when any does exist. To be succesful coins need to create original value to the end users in their own market segment and that is what DRK will continue to do.

I understand they are just promises right now, but it would be crazy if someone implemented darkcoin invention before darkcoin itself Cheesy
