Rule 101 of exploiters/hackers.

Never flap your lips until you've subverted the network. THEN you hold the cards. Otherwise, its just bluff.
IMHO, at very worse, that guy found a simple bug that is too easy to detect if attempted, and is using it as bluff leverage to try to gain from it indirectly.

This.

I believe Iranian is trying to drive the market price down a little, to buy more cheap coins. Weather or not he has insider info is another story.

So what's happening with this Darksend "de-anonymiser" ? Is it happning or is the guy full of bs ?

I am not sure about that guy but someone bough a shit load of Darkcoins on Cryptsy. My guess is a) it was someone with an insider information who knows some major fix/event is coming up or b) Trolls realized that their FUD isn't working and the price won't go down any further so they decided to buy in before the world finds out about InstantX which I am guessing is gonna be very very soon. When InstantX and the Darksend fix is out, I am pretty sure it will be all over at Fox, CNN, Forbes and so on again.

Am I looking at this oversimplistically?

If there is a question mark over Darkcoin (viable exploit/vector or not) then why would somebody go out and buy huge chunks of DRK?

I would expect price to drop on uncertainty and either recover if it turns out to be bullshit or drop further if it turns out to be true.

Can somebody explain to me how having inside info would in some way drive the price higher given today's (unproven) circumstances?

More examples: CNN contacted Evan and asked about InstantX and informed him that soon they are gonna have a story about Darkcoin and how it might revolutionize Crypto world. First a) Evan buys lots of Darkcoins, knowing that soon story is gonna be aired. b) Someone at the team in CNN realizes that once aired this news is gonna raise the Darkcoin price so he buys shit load of coins before the story is aired.

and so on

Here's two examples:

You have inside information that evan will no longer be developing darkcoin, you know that there's a good chance the market will react to this,
so you dump all your darkcoins. If you have a lot of darkcoins, dumping that many darkcoins could trigger a downwards trend ( although unlikely ).

You have inside information evan has just discovered something revolutionary, or that Darkcoin will be used instead of Bitcoin on SilkRoad, you know
that this could have an effect on the value and could potentially trigger a bubble, you could then buy a shit load of coins ( which could also have an effect
on the value ).

Thanks but those examples are not what I'm getting at.  That sort of thing could happen at any time.  To any altcoin.

I was wondering if the claims of FlabbyIranian69 were somehow causing the buying activity on Cryptsy.  I suppose the claimant him/herself could be doing the buying if the exploits are just FUD...

It will take more than that to get a rise out of this languishing market.

Everything's dead in crypto. I don't mean in activity - plenty development going on - but the markets are absolutely inanimate across the board. All the bubbles have burst and coins are compressed to their core valuations. Doesn't matter if it's DRK, BTS, NxT, LTC, MAZZA you name it.

What we need is for some small oil producing country's balance sheet to blow up due to excessive corporate defaults from margin calls on drilling capital. Then have that provoke a panic reaction from governments who start imposing capital controls & bail-ins followed by a flight to safe-havens.

That should do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=501Afs54cso

Russia & Venezuela currently on the starting blocks.

Agree with the above... I also think that like metals there is only room for so many.... And DRK will be one of up to maybe 5 - 6 crypto's that are active going forward...

Bitcoin is like gold and I think the other coins will be more like copper providing both function and value, thats where I see DRK... There are still far to many coins, as these die BTC will move into DRK I am sure.

The latest shift for the Darkcoin multipool paid out over 134 DRK.

This pool could use some more mining support, especially on the SHA256 & Scrypt side. X11 has been seeing more support lately but with the increased average DRK diff and lower block rewards for miners we could use another 4-500+Mh/s to stabilize the profitability. Mining here should net you the around the same amount or better as you would mining elsewhere, with the side effect of putting upward pressure on the price of DRK.

As a comparison this weekend xpool had the highest X11 profitability with BTC MH/DAY @ 0.00023810

Yaamp: BTC MH/DAY @ 0.0001950
CoinKing: BTC MH/DAY @ 0.0001600
NiceHash: BTC MH/DAY @ 0.0001600
Waffle: BTC MH/DAY @ 0.00014925

Bring more, earn more!

Cheers!

\o/ weeee nice payout on this one.
