If Darksend works as advertised, the coin will go mainstream. The distribution is in no way a roadblock.

A roadblock? No. Though I will admit it does make me a bit uneasy, and is one of the reasons I held off before investing in it and limited my investment.

It's also possibly might be the reason the price keeps getting nailed down. Someone who mined a large amount of coins near the beginning might be periodically dumping them on the market.

The developer appears to be incredibly competent and dedicated, likely one of the best developers on any coin I've seen. The features he's rolled out and will roll out are certainly impressive. The early mining issues are still there though, and those concerns are valid and should  not be ignored as they are causing pause to people who might be interested otherwise.

If the Devs want this big problem to ever go away, then he just needs to do the Airdrop and be done with it.

The community voted against it, so...

Well i wish i knew about this coin too! I was too busy mining other coins, but it seems people were complaining about it because the developers dropped the number of coins down to 22 million, making the difficulty higher, i also think there was a bug in the code that was giving a high block reward for the first few blocks before they patched it.

The reduction in coins is caused by a 7% reduction in rewards starting January 2015, it hasn't been "felt" yet.  The difficulty climbed because more people started mining it.

Stop telling lies dude. The difficulty didn't change much in the first 24 hrs. Later the retarget time was changed from 1 day to 1 hr.

Is it me or difficulty is stuck at 1.00 for the last 2 hours? The network is around 100Mh/s, and we are solving blocks faster than every 5 minutes, shouldn't diff be higher?

Yeah, it's been around 12 hours now and difficulty changed only few times. In the code there is:

static const int64 nTargetTimespan = 24 * 60 * 60; // Xcoin: 1 day
static const int64 nTargetSpacing = 2.5 * 60; // Xcoin: 2.5 minutes
static const int64 nInterval = nTargetTimespan / nTargetSpacing;

so interval between difficulty changes is 24 * 60 / 2.5 = 576 blocks. For me it looks like the target difficulty adjustment period is 1 day, not 1 hour.

You're correct.

Target time was ALWAYS 1 day. The OP was incorrect at launch. Look at the code, that never changed. In fact that would require a hard fork.

Quote
static const int64 nTargetTimespan = 24 * 60 * 60; // DarkCoin: 1 day
static const int64 nTargetSpacing = 2.5 * 60; // DarkCoin: 2.5 minutes
static const int64 nInterval = nTargetTimespan / nTargetSpacing; // 576

So janos666 can we do this? I am willing to advance 25DRK so you know you are not wasting your time?

I asked for the specifics because I wasn't sure if you want a simple masternode guide (how to install and set up a wallet daemon as a masternode on an already working system)  or an all-around guide starting from scratch to a mid/high level security server.

I already set up my masternode, so it wouldn't be hard to play it over and document the steps with screenshots.
But I would never call myself an IT, let alone an IT security expert.

I trust in my own security measures as much that I risk my own coins, but no way that I would risk other's, so I am not your guy.
And I don't think my own habits are optimal for most of the people who need a guide.

I would still do this for 50 DRK though, if I felt I have the required skill set. (It also benefits the whole community, the DRK reward is just a little extra.) But I do not.

But I think he wants instructions that include how to DDOS proof and set up firewalls and any  other safety that is prudent Smiley

That's why I said I am not "the guy".

My own node is secure in a way that you can't steal my coins without physically breaking into my house and find the wallet password (hint: it's not in the fridge). And I run a custom OpenWRT firmware on my router which acts as a hardware firewall and a weak DDoS countermeasure. And I followed the Gentoo security handbook during the OS setup. But that's it. I never said you can't hack my server.

Well, sounds to me like you know what you're doing, I don't know half of what you said LOL.  Maybe you are the guy!

Thanks, Tante, you always help people on this thread. A guide on what Janos just described would be perfect, I would just extrapolate it to my own setup, like I will be doing it from an office environment and using a physical firewall but I think conceptually it would help, if somebody else is interested the offer is still open for the 50DRK on guide on how to set up a master node.

why it's the best coin ?

Probably because he instamined it or bought too much.

I love how mining at the beginning of the launch is now synonymous with instamining. Lots of sore miners showing up in here.
Unfortunately, You are wholly incorrect and misinformed.  This isn't mining at the beginning.  This is closer to cheating.  If the block reward would have stayed 500 coins per block and a new block every couple of seconds, then yes your statement would be correct.  But CHANGING THE RULES OF THE COIN to make it 1,200 times more difficult to mine a Darkcoin only AFTER you have mined 1.7 million coins is tantamount to a scam instamine.  And if it was a bug, then distributing those bugged coins to ALL the current miners would be the fairest approach.

Or you could even have a new coin launch specifically to replace the instamined coins so that everyone can have a fair shot.  If the Devs want this big problem to ever go away, then he just needs to do the Airdrop and be done with it.  I actually liked the idea of requiring everyone to first purchase DRK on the open markets.  Heck, even require everyone to first purchase 500 DRK in a special DRK savings account and even consider having some other stipulation that prevents them from selling their Airdropped holdings for a long time.  Not sure how you would do that part though other than a massive escrow.

Can you code coins with a sort of no transfer expiration date?  What I mean is Evan airdrops coins to all holders of 100 Dark before April 1st who also bought another 500DRK but those coins are unable to be sold until Q1 2015.  You probably can't but this would be a really cool feature in a coin.

This is going to keep being a problem for Darkcoin and represents a massive roadblock for Darkcoin going mainstream until the Dev just goes ahead and fixes it.

Can we create a data store of copy / paste responses to trolls.

There isn't anything new, but I guess some of the trolling needs to be answered for the record.

That should cut down the effort dramatically. Otherwise the supports efforts are distracted from pushing things forward and we get stuck in the mud.

Yes, but DRK with a 50% instamine is particularly at risk of being labeled a ponzi.

Anyway, I'll stop posting this same shit here, it's not particularly constructive and the thread is bloated enough already.

It can be constructive... If some people are accusing you of having a scamcoin it can heighten your resolve (as a coin dev) to "prove them wrong" by going into high gear and doing your job as a coder in the best way possible.

So that's how Evan got a whole new implementation of DarkSend up so fast, LOL.  I thought he was taking the weekend off, 'cause he kind of disappeared, but now I know he's  workaholic.  You do realize he implemented all that stuff he and anonymint came up with a couple of days ago, right?  DarkSend has all that foundation in it now.  I'm frankly blown away.  He must think in code!

The best guide you can provide on how you did it would still be valuable to me, whatever is within the limits of your comfort. You may feel is not much but is well worth the 50 DRK for me, even if just to educate myself.  If you PM your address I would send you the initial 25DRK right now. It would be a favor to me if you are still willing to do it? Like I said within the limits of what you had in mind.

It's important to not here that master nodes won't start earning for a while yet, and the developers have plans to make it somewhat easy on people to set up in the future with a.... what do you call it?  a start up thingy, LOL  My vocabulary leaves a lot to be desired, LOL
