If you fork it do something useful, like basing it on bitcoin core 0.9.0

No blockchain forks unless really necessary please.

I am not planning on forking the blockchain. First let's see if the dev comes online the next few days

edit: I will add some nice features (including new core) when applying the fork. Suggestions are welcome too.

This sounds interesting. Could you provide more information please? Would it still be still the same Groestlcoin, or some other coin? If it will stay the same coin, how would we require all users to switch to the new wallet?

That's true there are lots of coins with big premine or instamine that are alive and kicking.
