As what they say, it's just a memorabilia and I think this is better than not holding a tangible item as a sign that you have contributed to a certain project. If this project is going to be successful in the future, those items will be valuable.

I think they're just trying to collect enough funds for the platform first and after that they will lower the price of the merchandise if they have gain profit already.
