Hey folks,
I mentioned the demo for FortKnoxster and included a link to sign up above (
https://demo.fortknoxster.com/register) - I wanted to follow that up with further information. When you sign into the demo platform, it tells you ‘Please note: This is a demo and some features are limited or disabled.’ I had a chat with the CTO and co-founder of FortKnoxster (on the platform - we tested both audio and video chat and the quality was outstanding!) and asked about what features are limited or missing. Here’s the details!
Blockchain integration is in roadmap - at present the keypairs are stored on the server, the private keys encrypted with a derived key from the user’s password which is never sent to the server (FortKnoxster never has access to the private keys).
Group video call is disabled in demo.
Sign up in mobile apps is disabled and will be avail. Jan 2018
Decentralized storage (and rewards for offering your space for FortKnoxster’s micro-files - which won’t ever reflect a whole file in one location, thereby ensuring security) is also on the roadmap. First version with all features is Q2, while many of the features are already done and working. Right now everything is hosted in Switzerland and all the storage is centralized, using distributed and high-performance data storage. File storage is, at present, end-to-end encrypted - like everything else in the platform. Eventually, with decentralized storage, there will be thousands of computers that are hosting pieces of the files that are encrypted anyhow - for further protection.
P2P calling works, and is completely encrypted and between devices. It uses webrtc, supported by Firefox, Chrome and Opera. Webrtc is also consumed by the native apps. By default the protocol is end-to-end encrypted. Further, signalling for audio and video calls is done on top of the end to end encryption that allows regular chat.
Thanks, and we hope to see you on FortKnoxster! Remember, what happens in FortKnoxster, stays in FortKnoxster!
