There are some differences between them and the competition. Big name brands used to accept gift cards but it seems a bunch of them stooped in the last couple of years.

Yes, this is why ZEEX has its own token. The smart contract will hold your Zix token until the transaction is safely completed. Once completed the token will then be released back into your wallet. Think of it as collateral or a security deposit.
