My friend and I are currently happy accumulating MAG in these cheap prices. People should learn to stop FOMOing. Don't buy the top. Anyway, this coin is very solid in its own terms. Anyone who is willing to sell their coins at a much lower price is well appreciated.  Grin

every time I want to ask - HOW COULD YOU RECOGNISE THAT COIN IS VERY SOLID? where did you get this info?

I will simply quote from masternodes.online because they put it succinctly and elegantly:

"ROI changes often and it not the most important factor. Please consider Dev Team - Community - PURPOSE/Platform - Liquidity - Wallet when making masternode purchases."

Well, the few posts above are just people whining about things that are inevitable especially in cryptosphere. MAG hit its ATH last January this year and the logical turn of events to follow is some consolidation which is what we are experiencing right now. This "dump" is expected in any market. Nothing just gonna go up and up to infinite times. This  is just a normal cycle for a coin to have.

I wouldn't call it whining - just simple truth. People dump and will dump even more and for this reason HODL does not exist.
I buy cheap, sell for more and the same over and over again as dumpers brought me a lot of money.
Thank you all for dumping. Mining sucks as it doesn't bring me as much profit as quickly.

Seems that MAG is not going to Moon. Instant dump.

A good coin requires community, dev team, utility, and ability to follow their roadmap.
It's software in a sense. If you want quick money, Bitmex is great. This coin has the respect of Sr. members here, and that says a lot.
Sorry if you bought at the top. Good luck mooning, we'll see ya there my friend.

Agree with this, saw MAG after researching a lot of masternode based projects and am very excited about running a MAG MN.  With active community and devs making the right moves and some long term progress, I'm expecting MAG to do quite well.  I don't expect it to 'moon' I expect it to grow over time, you bought at the top and the entire market corrected into a bear market, be patient and HODL...

HODL doesn't work anymore and those who say HODL dump the coin first.
The problem with most masternode crypto is too much masternode reward. It seems like this should buy people in. get them to mine the coin and set up masternodes. Great. Then depending on the coin the reward usually grows with time so does the number of masternodes. The coin is mooning then unfortunately miners and masternode owners start taking the profit. All one by one dump the coin slowly bringing the price down. The coins seems less and less profitable so new investors skip it for a sake of other profitable coin. Price falls even further. Less people mine it, difficulty and hashrate drop. More rewards for masternode owner when other investors start selling masternodes so more dump and prices even lower. I have seen it so many times, countless. Mun, Tune, DSR, DIN, DNR, BWK, even Solaris which I love as the most stable of them all.
I think the solution is a healthy balance between the cost of the masternode and rewards, maybe automated reward system depending on the current coin market? Too many coins dumped - lower rewards? That would at least stabilise the prices long term.

Edit:

This is the reason I don't own any masternode yet. Trading brings me a lot more and I don't believe in this masternode system, it is completely wrong at the moment. I will wait for a perfected balanced masternode coin to invest in.

Noob here.
I just installed the wallet qt.

What values do I put for:

rpcuser=INSERT_YOUR_USERNAME
rpcpassword=INSERT_YOUR_PASSWORD

Couple things, considering I was in a similar boat setting up my first MN
The video is really helpful, seeing someone do it.
Here is the official: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f3GtlreZEk

Second, first time you get to this step, it will suggest a randomly generated code for both.
Starting the daemon
We initially run the daemon so it creates the initial configuration files:
Code:
 ./magnetd
The daemon will print the following error and exit.
Code:
 Error: To use magnetd, you must set a rpcpassword in the configuration file:
/home/contact/.magnet/magnet.conf

So the answer is inside the step, or you can make up your own. Just make it good Smiley
Good luck man

Any other ideas? MN dreams are withering away. Can't use the cool new app.
I'll offer a 100 coin bounty to solve this for us users reporting it Smiley MAG of course

Before executing ./magnetd, try this:

sudo apt-get install build-essential libtool automake autotools-dev autoconf pkg-config libssl-dev libgmp3-dev libevent-dev bsdmainutils
sudo apt-get install libboost-all-dev
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bitcoin/bitcoin
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libdb4.8-dev libdb4.8++-dev
sudo apt-get install libminiupnpc-dev
sudo apt-get install unrar
sudo apt-get upgrade

Line by line.
If you are under root, you can skip "sudo" at each line.

My friend, thank you from the bottom of my over worked heart. This step has been such a bummer, mining all 10k only to be stopped by configuration. The updates you advised got me through my issues, nothing Magnet related. Can you PM me an address and I'd love to send you 100 MAG or something!

This FIXED my issue. Thank you community!!

Sent man, 100 MAG.

Another coin with HTTP downloads to wallet and no checksums of course. People really do not fucking care at all.
Beside the unnecessary swearing you are right, we encourage people to compile from source but since we provide binaries we should also provide checksums. This will be fixed today. Thanks for pointing that out.

Website has been updated to use https and checksums are now available on binaries : https://magnetwork.io/#wallet

Wow that is a reaction I did not expect, this is the way it should be. Fixed hours later! Other coins I pointed that out did not react at all. Its such a pathetic disgusting display that I can't help but swear. There will be people getting hacked and their coin stolen because of behavior like this. Especially in this area people should be extra cautious but its just a fact that they do not care. And if the devs do not care its gets even worse. Anyway thanks anyway for at least fixing that so fast.

Do you have compile instructions for the GUI wallet for ubuntu 17.10? I have not seen a single coin that offers that. If not can you write it. I tried build boxy recently and failed and gave up.

Hello, we have a tutorial up now on discord inside of Support -> Tech.Support -> check the pinned messages on how to compile the magnet-qt wallet. Beside that are instructions on how to compile the magnetd daemon wallet version and how to speed up the synchronization process using a bootstrap file.

Any other ideas? MN dreams are withering away. Can't use the cool new app.
I'll offer a 100 coin bounty to solve this for us users reporting it Smiley MAG of course

Before executing ./magnetd, try this:

sudo apt-get install build-essential libtool automake autotools-dev autoconf pkg-config libssl-dev libgmp3-dev libevent-dev bsdmainutils
sudo apt-get install libboost-all-dev
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bitcoin/bitcoin
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libdb4.8-dev libdb4.8++-dev
sudo apt-get install libminiupnpc-dev
sudo apt-get install unrar
sudo apt-get upgrade

Line by line.
If you are under root, you can skip "sudo" at each line.

We have plans to tidy up the build process as we will be moving to MW 2.0 on the roadmap. In the meantime we will try to take time for update the QT wallet tool chain and build process.
