Bitcoin is faltering at a bad, bad time for Greece

Bitcoin's decentralized system is leaving loophole for technical errors — reminding investors that virtual money might not be the perfect alternative to paper, Bloomberg's Olga Kharif reports.

At least not yet.

As some Greeks rushed to buy Bitcoin during bank closures, the payment system, which has been trading at its highest since March, took a stumble over the weekend.

It took nearly five-times longer than usual to process transactions, said Gil Luria, an analyst at Wedbush Securities.

A payment could take up to five hours to be confirmed, while some users were also unable to create new Bitcoin, he said.

The lag was caused by an update to the payment system's PC software over the weekend — or more precisely, it was caused by a disjunction in the versions of software users own. Operators who hadn't updated the software "put the whole system out of whack," the article said.

Though the issue is expected to be fixed within a few days, it's not the first time Bitcoin has seen this kind of software problem, Luria said.

"I don't know that it's (ever) happened to this extent, because Bitcoin has never been this big," he said.

Bitcoin's customer base has increased, with nearly 120,000 transactions occurring a day in early June — an increase of 10 times since the same period in 2011, reported Coindesk, a Bitcoin-focused newsdesk. Last week, Coinbase, a Bitcoin exchange and wallet provider, waived fees for customers buying with euros due to the Greek Crisis.

According to Bloomberg, software updates will be much smoother if companies take more market share from Bitcoin machine hobbyists.

Welcome to DNotes, chinook. It depends on the funds. Most of them have their own goals and objectives with a variation of investment strategies to achieve the best balanced portfolio from their prospective. Many funds will not invest in high risk situations such as DNotes, Bitcoin and any other Altcoins for that matter, especially at this infancy stage. This will change over time as the industry matures. However, some funds that allocate a small percentage of their portfolio for high risk situations will invest in our industry. I believe that some have been investing in Bitcoin and other coins.

In my personal opinion, well positioned and professionally managed digital currency such as DNotes offers a rare opportunity for "small" funds and individuals who have little left over to save. Compared to traditional savings and other investments, investing a small amount in DNotes on a regular basis could, in 10 to 15 years from now, make a significant difference because of its huge potential price appreciation. This is the main reason why we have set up our family of CRISPs so that anyone interested to save on a regular basis can do so. Anyone can easily open an account at the DNotesVault. In the case of students we automatically deposit up to 500 Dnotes in their account over a period of 12 months. They can start owning DNotes without having to pay for them. We are still in pilot mode at this point but will start promotion our family of CRISPs in a few months. With regards to "invest strictly in DNotes", I do not believe that is a good idea. There are not sure things in investing. It is always a good discipline to maintain a diversified and balanced portfolio. Hope I have been helpful in answering your question.

What types of funds could invest strictly in DNotes?

Those are "Dynamic" or "Visual" QR codes. You can have a design, picture or blend into a picture in the code. Pretty cool. Here's a URL for a "free" (not really free  ) creator site:

All elements are dynamic. You can change the location of the code in relation to the pic, change the sizes, even colors of the QR to some extent. Most scanners will understand it with perhaps a 1 to 2 second delay over a "pure" QR code.

Fairly easy to manipulate. You could have one on each end, each saying something different or, going to a URL, Contact Record, Phone or SMS. You could change it at will without any obvious signs. Quote of the day, new promotion, etc. Be sort of a treat for users...

I kind of like the QR code as part of the logo, interesting idea.

The QR code currently says (in text) "This site will help educate our industry and regulators in a meaningful way"
