It's all open source - anyone can do what they like with it. Don't get involved if you don't like it. If it's better than bitcoin it will survive  - if not it will die. I hope more people do exactly the same thing. The more clonecoins the stronger bitcoin will be (unless one of them is better then bitcoin)

Not true, brand dilution is a major problem.

Suppose you are a merchant and have to invest $5k in a new digital currency processing system (POS system). Right now the only choice is bitcoins so you choose a bitcoin compatible system. If there are 5 other digital currencies floating around, you are going to sit on the $5k until one of them 'wins', and then buy in.

Check this out:
"Bitcoin is the decentralized digital currency. I say "the," rather than "a," because there can only be one. Since decentralized digital currencies rely on computational power to ensure security, the currency with the most computational power is the most secure. If we ever found ourselves with more than one decentralized digital currency, which ever one had more computational resources devoted to it would be the most secure, and thus more people would trust it, and thus more people would use it, and thus it would come to dominate and be the only one. Bitcoin is that currency. (Previously, I argued that there could be a market of currencies. However, I now realize that, while there can be a market of currencies, there can't be more than one decentralized digital currency.)"

If a currency is secure enough it will be trusted currency.

I threw this together real quick. I think it works.
it's like blockexplorer but for ixcoin. all the links say 'bitcoin' but i pointed it at the ixcoin chain so its actually showing ixcoin info.

Neat! http://ixcoin.net/ will point there for a little while.

Nice work! If you could change name from Bitcoin to Ixcoin and remove the other chains, we could link to it from the Ixcoin wiki. Might even win the relevant bounty too.

Yeah i saw someone buy 150,000 ixcoins at 0.0015 btc each. Wow. Hopefully he can cash out above 0.0015 btc

It's kind of a zero-sum situation. If someone wants to take the risk and buys my 4 hours worth of ixcoin mining for the price of 1132 hours of bitcoin mining then I'm glad there is an exchange to make the deal.
Kind of lucky that I saw the thread in the first hours. Cheesy

Profitability calculation:

Ixcoin difficulty: 1024
Ixcoin / bitcoin difficulty ratio : .0005421469
ixcoin / bitcoin price ratio: 0.00023231

It's over folks, 'twas a fun experiment!

You forget that you get almost twice as many Ixcoins as Bitcoins per block.

So when you take that in to account, difficulty ratio is about 0.000282133, and Ixcoin seems to be trading a bit above that right now. So it's still slightly more profitable to mine Ixcoins. That said, I don't see it continuing for too long. Was a fun day mining :-)
