Grrr, running a Windows wallet on a Mac and creating a .conf file without any data garbage that makes your wallet crash is quite the hassle… but I finally figured it out. Can't wait to get my linux laptop up and running again.

check again the filename - it synced immediately after adding the seed servers

Indeed, false positives happens a lot. On the other side is healthy to have source avaliable so people can compile themselves.
