So one of the main devs was dev of mintcoin? In other words he abandoned that project for this one? Why would I trust him to stay with this project?

The current price of PIVX is pure injustice. It should be giving DASH and probably ZCash a run for it's money.
I also learnt the developer of mintcoin is one of the guys behind PIVX. He should seek to implement some of the upgrades in mintcoin to revive it. That 'mintcoin' name alone is very much resounding...

can someone explain briefly the zerocoin protocol and why is it so cool that our beloved pivx has it now?

Zerocoin Protocol transactions use Zero-Knowledge Proofs to guarantee absolute privacy. Zero-Knowledge Proof is a cryptographic process by which transactions occur with the only public information signifying that the money was indeed sent or received. With this, one party (the sender) can prove to another party (the receiver) that a given statement is true, without conveying any information apart from the fact that the statement is indeed true.
PIVX already has an impressive list of features which include SwiftTX, Masternodes, and Community Designed Governance. This announcement comes after the PIVX Masternode network agreed on giving up exclusive voting rights to allow the implementation of Community Designed Governance which will ensure a more decentralized currency.

Basically you are right but I wouldn't say that because there are other PoS coins which already implemented zcash (which is a never version of the zerocoin protocol). So I think it's a bit misleading.

Total team effort on those. I script/film. Rhubarb (chad) does post processing and graphics. A few others also help with scripts.Beauty of PIVX. This consensus (decentralized) way of Hiving (swarm) efforts-we get more done with 10% of the efforts as centralized ones.
