10 minutes just to open and synchronize the wallet. You gotta be kidding me!
That's after it has just been synchronized closed and reopened. I hope that someone is working on this. If PIVX is supposed to replace FIAT currency it has to be at least as easy and fast to use as a bank account. People don't want to wait 10 minutes before they can make a purchase. I can log into my bank account in about 1 minute so PIVX is about 10 times worse.

so this are statistics on coinmarketcap for PIVX

Volume (24h)
$477,958
460.07 BTC

can somebody explain why poloniex won't add PIVX on its exchange?

It'll come.  Be patient.

And when it does, PIVX can really start to stretch its legs Cheesy

Edit: SWEAR I wrote that before I saw your username.  Dying laughing rn.

do you own a mn yourself if i may ask? and do you know about the hidden costs? hardware and monthly costs ?

yes i have a mn, i've had many, but stupidly sold them long ago before even when they changed to PIVX.

anyways, the hidden costs for a masternode would probably server hosting fee, and your time.  the less you know, the more time you need to get it set up right and secure.  but it's relatively easy and there's a lot of information on how to set one up now as compared to before.

i say the minimum would be about a $5 server is enough. i use a digital ocean cloud server myself, it's easy to setup. i'd recomment a $20 server, so you may even set up other masternodes on there and play around with it. please use my ref link if you gonna try?
https://m.do.co/c/f5bdb7836584  Grin

anyways or you can have someone else host it for you:

for example http://my.mp-hosting.co.uk/index.php

i've heard good things about them.  very inexpensive masternode hosting.

that's about it...$20 and some of your time...now go get that mn go get that mn go.

I just bought some PIVX beginning of this week for an average price of 0.000585 BTC each and thinking now that this was still a quite high price. The price didn't move much since then. I'm thinking that most the forum members here bought PIVX for a much lower price, or am I'm wrong? What was your average price?
My average price is about the same. Bought gradually from in the range of $.35-$.80

totally agree, well my prediction for the coins that's is going to sleep a while! -slow movement-

if you are an investor for the long run, i'd suggest just put up your masternode(s) and move on and not think about the price too much.  maybe do some PIVX pr work, maybe look for next investment, or maybe just go camping.

each PIVX masternode is paying about $10/day?  $300/month!  almost a little rental apartment...with minimum upkeep.
true believer who held on to their masternodes from last year are rewarded tremendously.   it pays to stick with a project you researched and believe in.

now the real work for PIVX begins.

First of all, any inversion have risks, so make your own investigation about the coin and decide yourself. Don't let anyone decide for you what to make with your money (<- Ding, a key in crypto here  Cool )

And now, let the old man rant begin  Grin

Well, this project has more than a year of life and you can explore the first pages of the thread to see the people who was here for the beginning. Easy, no tricks, if you now a bit about crypto you know that there are some of the biggest wallets of this coin.

If you explore a bit more, you will find a kind community, with old users and few concerns about FUD and so on.

And if you explore more, in... maybe page 170 or near, you will find the POS switch. During more than two weeks, devs and community works hard to get the first POS over Core 0.10.x (correct me here if I'm wrong) working. With lots of problems, wiht forks, and more forks... oh, shit, my 2 MN's have forked again...  Cry

Devs and community made its best to get the solution and the wallet and the chain running again. And it finally worked nice, very nice  Shocked

And during that time, fortunately wallets were frozen in the market avoiding disasters, and some people sold. And I buy, a good bunch, cheap, really cheap, about 500-700 sat.

And I hold, It was clear that devs know what they want and how to get there, and community was inteligent and responsible. Yes, in the last days I have sold a bit at 4k, 10k & 50k, about 1 MN but I continue holding. Maybe it will surpass some of the big ones or maybe it fails, but I know that a lot of work will be done.

So I will continue to run my MN's, holding and stacking, and who knows, maybe one day I could carry a very comfort life with a fantastic pension fund in PIVx  Grin

But remember, decision is yours.

And now, let's go to dump some shit...  Cheesy

What should I do? Just start from scratch?

Hmm. The first error, 'not capable', generally just means you haven't started the MN in your controller wallet. It's strange that doing so doesn't work for you. Have you tried using start-alias MASTERNODENAME rather than start-many? In the past, start-many used to cause issues sometimes so I only use start-alias now.
Yes, good advice. And instead of using masternode tab, go to the console and type it. Masternode tab starts have been making me crazy for days  Wink

so you just pay him the phee? you buy the min coins and everything else is automated? the site doesnt describ much :S

No, he doesn't manage the node for you but he sets up the VPS. All you have to do is edit the conf file and do any other optional housekeeping you want. He's also easy to get hold of if there are technical issues. So...kind of intermediate between a managed service and having to do everything from scratch I guess.

Hello!

I'm trying to set up a masternode, everything seemed to be ok in the morning, like in the guide.

After running the "masternode start-many" command the result was:
Code:
“overall” : “Successfully started masternode, failed to start 0, total 1”,
“detail” :
“status” :
“alias” : “masternode1”,
“result” : “successful”
Done.

===

But later today I tried to check it's status by running a command on the terminal:

Code:
pivx-pli masternode status

The response was:

Code:
Not capable masternode: Hot node, waiting for remote activation

The local wallet's response to "masternode start-many" is:

Code:

{
    "overall" : "Successfully started 0 masternodes, failed to start 1, total 1",
    "detail" : {
        "status" : {
            "alias" : "masternode1",
            "result" : "failed",
            "errorMessage" : "Node just started, not yet activated"
        }
    }
}

What should I do? Just start from scratch?

anywhere to download the current blockchain?

We now have an official snapshot of the blockchain updated regularly at our official github.
Go here to download the file: https://github.com/PIVX-Project/PIVX/releases
Filename: Pivx_Blockchain_Backup-.zip

Just wondering from a technical viewpoint:
1) Couldn't owners of masternodes deanonymised users by keeping logs?
2) What stops centralization of the ownership of masternodes?

Not meant to be a trick question, just wanna know what the differences are to Dash.

Right now, there is no difference to DASH in terms of masternode tech currently.
But we will be making some big changes to how they work. (remove voting right, libzerocoin processing etc)

You can only buy it for what you think is a good value. Same goes for Bitcoin or any other coin.
We have a very large community that are doing a lot to ensure PIVX's future success.
If you would like to see what is happening, I recommend you to join our Slack: slack.pivx.org Wink

Thanks jakiman, I just joined your Slack! Hope the price will soon climb go up again. I've heard about PIVX last week ago and waited for a 'good moment' to go in despite people saying that it's just a Dash Clone and just another pump & dump coin. Anyway, I really think that PIVX is even better than Dash and deserves a top 10 rank at CoinMarketCap as well.

btw if anyone can help me with MN hosting pls let me know thanks

Paul's service is also worth considering and has been around since the early DarkNet days. $1.80/mo. plus $1 setup. Granted, there is an argument for looking elsewhere to ensure MNs are spread around, but aside from that it's a good deal.

At time of writing, he has 23 nodes available and usually gets more up as needed.
