Hi - like someone else said, we are working on encrypted messages. Also for full anonymity right now you can use Tor proxy: https://github.com/talkcoin/talkcoin-wallet/blob/master/doc/Tor.txt

Regarding use of Talkcoin, we think there is a lot of untapped potential in crypto communications actually - for example you and I are communicating now about cryptos on a messaging system right? People are already advertising in the chat, asking other users for help, delay is less than 20 seconds but on this forum delay can be anything - our mission is to innovate new ways to chat / communicate using crypto, why not?

Who said private chat? We said P2P chat. Dev is working in private messages for the next update anyways.
