I dunno.

Taking a look at the wallet, it seems pretty much the same as all the others, but with some centralised links to resources. The issue of centralisation of this coin bothers me - the core wallet shouldn't specify where you should buy your coin from, or where you should talk about it.

It's sort of like telling people that Tescos is where you need to spend your Visa cards, or Walmart is where you can buy your bananas.

I get the links, and the integration bit. But it seems, I dunno - a bit "faddy" to me. Also, this PoS stuff really has me troubled, because if it takes off and gets a serious market cap, then the security of its PoS system will be Properly tested. And honestly, PoS makes me uneasy.

I look at this coin, and all the others like it that were released around the same time, and since - and I think, why would I want to keep any of these coins longer than a few weeks and hope for a quick pump or release of new features that makes the price go up.

They don't seem to offer any actual practical value that I can tell. They just serve to take value away from the existing other coins, with their temporary short lived "features".

If centralizing is something that bothers you, Then you must re-evaluate how you deal in bitcoin. I am sure many of the bitcoin services that you may use are centralized. To deposit / withdraw money its centralized. The exchanges you use are centralized. Many of the bitcoin services are centralized that we use.

Mostly rubbish .... cheap ass jibes and BS

Yawn.

2/10 Because there was a couple of interesting bits about staking, as for the the rest, go to the back of the class.

Bar raising, yes, we started that for you so you knew what to do next. Move on.

You started -and try to maintain- a scam. The Black Hand left and left you dried and dying. And what the fuck are you doing here, mister land-grabbing Blackcoin Foundation board member. All your fanboys are spreading like the plague here and at the IRC... why? No need to answer, sure. The last "intelligent" thing you said was "buah" when you were 3 months old.

Is that true Barabbas? Are some of these guys in here yelling, screaming, and spreading all sorts of lies actually BC Foundation members. I really thought BC had more class.

Well see for yourself. Just go to the Blackcoin Foundation site and you will have Mr. Vizique here in full nose regalia. But all the others are circling the waggons, and have been for a few days already, showing up in masse here, in Twitter and above all, in group, at VRC's IRC channel.

They are indeed a class act... by the way, where did you get the idea they would have some class? It is the biggest (documented) scam in the history of alternative coins. They are prominently in THE WALL OF SHAME... it must be that gorgeous logo of them, otherwise I cannot understand where you may have gotten the idea that there was any semblance of class over there...

a repeated situation is highly unlikely if not impossible to happen

unlikely

yes, everyone hopes for that and that should be a main goal when it comes to security

impossible?

just. don't. say. stuff. like. that. really. nothing is impossible no matter how hard you try to protect something. there are much bigger threats coming from the inside (like this whole story is just fishy) than from the outside, like hacking attacks. so reading words like impossible makes me cringe everytime

I didn't write "impossible" I wrote "...if not impossible..." in the context or a larger phrase. Of course nothing -almost nothing- is impossible, but the degree of "unlikely" grows exponentially, in crypto, when there's transparence. And lack of anonymity. I don't know where you live, but in the US, there are laws, even though there's still  no regulation. And over here it is very difficult to get away with theft... at least completely... IF you are a student by the name of Patrick Nokster developing a coin like VRC. Definitely much harder than if you are a Russian expatriate with no known name who goes by one or more handles, let's say like "Rat4". Still, since you (rat4) are in the US, you are subject to laws -and the scrutiny of the IRS-, so it is quite hard -not impossible- for you the get away with blatant theft (perhaps not so much with about half of the loot...). Now, if you live in Sri Lanka and you are a dev under the handle of "Wizzbit" or whatever.

You get my meaning, I'm sure.

^  Other than this one, is there any other users in this thread posting bullshit only?

I had it down to "Bobsurplus" "keshuker" and "ItsNotMe" as my ignore list, but checked "mrkavasaki"s post history and seen he is just here to annoy while promoting other coins and services rather than discuss (different opinions are fine, existence of just attempting textual annoyance is just boring, rather throw on ignore).

I can't wait for the decentralized ideas and exchanges Blackcoin developers bring out, and for those ideas be made better when it's all coins on the exchanges (because if Blackcoin needs users like him to promote their coin in the way he is doing, they are sadly in trouble)

Hi,

After the Mintpal fiasco, I upgraded my wallet ("about" says wallet's version is 1.3.3.0 and QT's is 5.0.2.) but since then I can't connect to the VRC network  Undecided

I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 and what I did was :
 - Delete everything in ".vericoin" but wallet.dat
 - Delete everything in the QT folder
 - Download and extract the last source in the previous QT folder
 - Qmake then Make

Installation went fine and I can run the wallet but I can't sync anymore and my coins are all unconfirmed.

Can somebody help me please ?  Smiley

Hi Everyone, fork is complete with update 1.3.3!

Go here to download the new wallet: www.vericoin.info

Backup your wallet.dat first before proceeding, it's location is listed below for your system.

Windows:
We recommend uninstalling old VeriCoin program in remove programs control panel, then deleting everything but wallet.dat in your username\appdata\roaming\VeriCoin folder and running the default installer settings.  This will load up the full block and you will be on the splash screen for 30-60 minutes while it loads the blockchain data.

Mac:
We recommend deleting everything but wallet.dat from user/library/applicationsupport/vericoin and putting these two files in this directory as well: http://www.vericoin.info/downloads/vericoin.conf http://www.vericoin.info/downloads/bootstrap.dat
You will sit at the splash screen for 30-60 minutes while the whole blockchain loads up.

Linux:
We recommend deleting everything from .vericoin but wallet.dat, putting these two files in this directory as well: http://www.vericoin.info/downloads/vericoin.conf http://www.vericoin.info/downloads/bootstrap.dat

Install necessary dependencies if you haven't already.  (Debian)
sudo apt-get install qt4-qmake libqt4-dev build-essential libboost-dev libboost-system-dev libboost-filesystem-dev libboost-program-options-dev libboost-thread-dev libssl-dev libdb++-dev libminiupnpc-dev libboost-all-dev libqrencode-dev git

You will sit at the splash screen for 30-60 minutes while the whole blockchain loads up.

If anyone else has wallet issues, please look a bit down the first page, there is a link to post from the developers on how to upgrade after the hack.

So,

What will make vericoin succeed once the initial excitement and pumping stops, what makes it worth holding given that it is purely a PoS coin - and is far less established/available/accessible than many other longer and older coins that are finding it hard currently

My Vericoin in my wallet earns interest while my Bitcoin in my Coinbase account does not.  I can spend my Vericoin wherever I would have normally been using Bitcoin.   For me, the interest is one of the bigger factors.
