Honestly, I don't get the obsession with the logo.
Graphic art is not what attracts people to a project like elastic. I barely remember what the logos of most of the successful cryptos that I trade in even look like.
Couldn't that money better be used elsewhere for the benefit of the project? It's not like the dev team is swimming in funds, given the unfortunate situation with Lannister and the donations
It's not a question of either or. If funding for devs is being asked for it will be available. So far several offers for developer-funding went unmatched.
Edit: And i disagree with your opinion on Logo and such. Take Golem for example, they may be not superior when it comes to tech, but they for sure have a damn sleek appearance and overall design and it shows in marketcap imo. And after all 1BTC is a joke when it comes to funding, being it logo, devs or whatever.
This is kind of a "why spend so much money to go to space while there are starving children?" question. Sorry for the crude comparison.
Anyway, for one part, a good logo and corresponding corporate design is a way to show professionality.
But, XEL might be a little different in the regard, that there is no central entity to decide on a "party line" and I kinda like it that way.
With that in mind, we can still have the contest, still announce a winner and feel happy about it, but there is no real way to force everyone to use the chosen logo.
And while I think, that everyone is free to choose how they spend their money and whether or not they want to spend it on a logo rather than bug bounties, I think @bspus has at least a point in that regard.
True, EK and others have rejected payment, but things like bug bounties would draw in new developers, which XEL WILL need in the future.
And I agree on Golem having a crazy beautiful design. I was close to jumping in just because of that
