Hopefully someone can help me.
I opened my wallet (CryptoNote Wallet v0.2.1) and I get "Status: Can not connect to daemon"
Any ideas how to get the wallet going again?

I don't know what GUI wallet you use but you need to have all the files from the normal wallet.
Keep everything in one folder.

Be sure to be up-to-date for both normal wallet and GUI wallet. If you didn't update for some time, I am sure it is not gonna work. Check the GUI wallet thread for all updates and read.

Always have a backup of your personal wallet (the key files).

I followed your guide in op step by step. Everything ran fine until 7/7/14. I downloaded the exact gui wallet in the op except mine said "cryptonote wallet v0.2.1" instead of your "cryptonote wallet v0.1.5"

Even if I try and run the simple wallet, when I refresh I get an error message "Error: Wallet failed to connect to daemon (http://localhost:(port #). Daemon either is not started or passed wrong port. Please, make sure that daemon is running or restart the wallet with correct daemon address."

I have no idea how all of this happened.

can i hack my own wallet?? anywaqy to do so... really cant afford to lose these coins
You can brute-force or do a dictionary attack on it.
How many characters exactly ? Did you use numbers ? High capital letters ? Special symbols ?
i used a password 20 characters long... the first 4 characters and last four characters are numbers... and the other 12 characters inbetween are lower case ...
what would be the best way to hack?
thanks alot for your help
Wow... 20 characters long, I'm afraid but we do not have the necessary hardware to break this.
Unless you know exactly some part of the password.
If you know the 12 chars in the middle, it may be possible.
But wait, is there a lot of money on it ? Because bruteforce password is not free !
i know all of the password... so it should make it a lot easier no??
there is enough, how much is it? cant i do it my se3lf??
thanks for your help

I know that you can to it technicaly but the tools doesn't exist. You need to make an application that send password try to simplewallet.

Well if you don't know how to code that mean you have to pay someone to do and that could be expensive.

20 characters long? Best way to hack is to ask FBI and NSA politely to give you all their ressources. I'm afraid you lost your coins. ALWAYS write the password on a paper, on a tatoo, on your ass, on your toilet paper, in your car, in the shower, everywhere if you plan to have a lot of money under a passworded wallet.

Nothing worse than loosing your money because you forgot your password.

Sometimes it's more risky to activate security than to take the risk being robbed lol. so be very cautious with crypto and password encrypted wallet : write it down, always.

and make copy of the wallet.dat in 5 usb stick, all your computers, and in all avaible external drives you might have.

Repeat every month.

yeah i know i'm paranoid  Cool

how do i do this with simplewallet? i have put .keys and address.txt in same folder as simplewallet... the old version of gui wallet that i created password on worked fine but now ive updated it gives me an invalid password... why is this?
i havent changed or misplaced the password... so if i cant access my wallet due to this invalid passwrod error how can i rescan in simple wallet?
When you open a wallet you must be sure that you typed the whole name file with the extension like : "wallet.bin"
The password cannot change, you may forgot it or it is not the same wallet you try to open.
i have done that wallet.bin, and that wallet was the only wallet i had in general, and i made sure to have that password saved as i know how important it is, i took all precautions so i dont understand why its still invalid

I really don't know what to do at that point. Ask your question on the main thread then, maybe someone had the same issue.

EDIT : have a look at the last features on the .fr pool : new post

could someone help me?
About 2months ago i downloaded the cryptonote gui wallet, everything was fine... i then put my xmr wallet in cold storage... however i decided to update my wallet as i wanted to buy more and trade, however once i downloaded the new update my password seems to be changed
i had saved copies of password on offline drives, however as i tried to open my old wallet with the old and correct password it keeps saying invalid password
am i missing something?
i did the same update of quazarcoin with no issues it worked perfectly
thanks for all your help
Be sure that you are opening the right wallet.
Look for all the wallet files on your computer.
The old GUI wallet is definitely not working anymore.
You must use the normal wallet or the new GUI wallet from Jojatekok.
You can open a wallet by opening the key files instead of the bin files. It'll re-scan all transactions.
thanks alot, how do i open the .key files and how to rescan?? is this done in the simple wallet?
i appreciate your help

It can be done for sure with simplewallet.
In order to use simplewallet, bitmonerod but be launched and synchronized too.
