Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo mail; same shit, different package. Every one of those is spying on you, so why use any of them?

Because they provide a convenient, free webmail and if you don't have anything sketchy that you need to hide in your email, what difference does it really make...?

Gmail is more convenient to use and very secure compared to different free web based email services.

That last time I used any other mail service other than the gmail was way back in 2006. (That was a Yahoo account anyway, never ever used Hotmail in my life). That said, is there any reason why we should use Hotmail? Is it having any additional features which the Gmail is lacking?

I didnt even notice that people still use hotmail still.

I thought everyone moved on to gmail? lol. But yeah, that does suck if you were using the hotmail as primary not dummy account.

Security issues, and personal information... all that stuff esp identity theft.

I use gmail it is pretty good for me, no problem so far. It does not bother me that they at google read and spy your mails anymore. (Microsoft does that too, so whatever)

It's almost common place that we're spied upon everyday. If not our emails, its our text, calls, facebook, twitter, forum comments. The list goes on..they keep collecting until they find a reason to use it.

Truth. Sad truth, but still. A few years ago before Sno.wden and WikiL eaks, what you just said would have gotten you labeled a "nutcase conspi.racy theorist." There is definitely no privacy left in mainstream products/society, but it can be accomplished. Everyday they try to shut down part of anonymity, on the web and elsewhere. That is why everyone must call/write/lobby against CISPA, SOPA, and any others that will follow.

Anyways, on topic- I also use a hotmail email account for most everything. Same reason a few of you have said already, I've had it forever and it's just rolled with me through time. I expect no real privacy, and most major accounts have some form of 2FA.
What is a good place for me to start learning about and getting an encr.ypted email service?

Lol some of that is your mistake (you had a spy program or used your pass on a non-secure site most likely) but they should implement a system like Google/Yahoo that prevent you from login and asks for Security question/Phone when you login from a new country.

Sorry you're wrong the system was clean and like I had mentioned I hadn't accessed that account in over a year.

Gmail is the best. I've been using them since they were beta testing and you had to be invited.

Hotmails are pretty easy to crack. I never personally used them for anything. In the days of Xronize, I remember we used to just type random ID's and try to see how many  we could crack.

i cant stop using hotmail because it has my first and oldest account ,, so i have to keep dragging it with me ,, tried getting the same id on gmail but couldnt ,

A good deal of the reason why I haven't dropped my gmail address is the simple fact that it would be a nightmare to update every place that has that listed as my email address and I'd surely lose some contacts and such in the shuffle. My gmail has become a spamfest; every few months I have to basically go on a campaign of getting unsubscribed from newsletters and crap just to keep it manageable...

Hm that is really weird.
I did not know for such problems.
Try to report that. They must fix those security fails.
