Ok I will skip everything else its already been covered by the above posters. Here is my personal advice and I give it to you because I made some of these mistakes myself.

Always backup !! Please listen to me. Backup ! On a cloud (if you trust it) on another hard drive and on a USB drive and maybe even a CD.
Get a paper wallet and keep it in the safe. So always make sure you back up a file called wallet.dat file type %appdata% and look for the name of the coin you want to back up. The wallet.dat is in that folder . example : %appdata%/xyz/wallet.dat where xyz = coin in question

Then the next is. Dont believe in crap. The past person you should listen to is the person wanting your money. When you invest if there are claims of miners or whatever they say and they provide no pictures or videos then stay away. These are ponzi schemes. A legit investment would provide proof and be proud to provide that proof. Any excuse means its a scam. With altcoins that's up to you. I wouldn't trust coins that have very badly bad Announcements.

Good luck.

Most of these Alts are Pump n Dump schemes, so make sure that you are investing into some Crypto currency where there were no pre-mining

done. Here is a guide to what pre-mining is :---> https://www.cryptocompare.com/coins/guides/what-is-a-premine/ ... I would stick to Bitcoin,

and buy on the low and sell on the high... I have done that for years and I have accumulated a lot of extra coins that way. Bitcoin is all about the

long game.  Wink

It really depends on the use. If you use a wallet like Electrum, it will create new addresses automatically. It's a good thing since you are supposed to hold your private funds on it.
In the case of a donation address that you will put on a website, you don't need to change it every payment or day. First it's not convenient and second it is actually not a bad thing to consider this address as being "public" for transparency purposes.

Well Hello there Vinicius welcome to the community. I'm also new here but I already learned a lot. I'm also learning trading as well. There are a lot of useful threads here, I just used the search function to look for topics about trading and read. There are tons of reading about trading here I'm telling you and the first thing I learned is not to go to trading without any knowledge of the alt-coins or bitcoin. You have to invest time and read a lot before going into trade. And as Velkro said, it is like gambling, and there is risk together with trading. So why you just hold your bitcoin for now, then learn the skills needed to be a trading then if you think you have the confidence with even small amount to trade, then go for it.

I've read in numerous places now that it's a good idea to get into trading cryptocurrencies.
You red wrong. Its not good idea to trade cryptocurrencies because its like gambling. Bitcoin market or any crypto is even more unpredictible than normal stock market.
You want gamble? Thats fine, but that what casinos are for.
Best for you is to buy bitcoin and hold, i know it has no adrenaline rush like trading, but you will gain more money in time and for sure won't loose money like in trading.

So I'm new here, my name is Vinicius, 26m from Brazil.
I've read in numerous places now that it's a good idea to get into trading cryptocurrencies.
Been looking for something to entertain my (extensive) free time and also maybe make some money, so I wanna learn this.
I'm going to start with maybe 50$ USD, so I'm just looking for pointers into whatever guides, threads, posts or whatever I need to read and learn, no matter how big.
Thanks in advance and hi to all!

You can read this: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/general-how-to-earn-bitcoins-1629118 some method how to earn bitcoin.

If you interested to trade cryptocurrency, with such a funds you have, I think you should try to learn arbitrage, for altcoin that's worth to try, because the range price between one exchange to another has a considerable distance.

Iranus covers it pretty well.

Stay away from any ponzis though. HYIPs are only for experienced players and they have a ton of experience. You have no chance against the big players, and admin, you would think perhaps that the monitors are saying it's paying, but really they are only paying the monitors and not you.

My advice it to sell your labour, you seem to have a lot of free time, so use it wisely.

Key ways of earning:

-Signature campaigns.  These are when you put an advertisement in your signature space on the forum and earn for making a certain number of posts on the forum, usually each week.  For people who are reasonably new, this is arguably the best way to get started making a smallish amount of Bitcoin to mess around and experiment with.  Don't make spammy posts for them though, or people won't like you and you might screw up the forum for others.  You might need to rank up to Junior Member or Member to begin participating in these, which could take a few weeks.

-Other forum related earnings e.g. selling old items on marketplace (you could even sell things for fiat and convert them to Bitcoin along with what you are already intending to put in.

-Ponzi schemes/HYIPs which often pay out for a while*

-Mining.  This is when you confirm others' transactions using specialised transactions for the reward of new Bitcoins and transaction fees*

-Trading Bitcoin with other cryptocurrencies on exchanges like Poloniex or Bitcoin to fiat currencies on exchanges like Bitstamp.  Before you do this, you will need to research the behavior of cryptocurrency markets and under no circumstances should you invest more than you can afford to lose, especially when you are less experienced.  If you decide to do this, don't expect to earn straight away - put in small amounts of Bitcoin first to test the behavior of the market and use your discretion.

-Hold.  This is the only choice which requires absolutely no work or skill, but for someone who is enthusiastic about cryptocurrencies you're probably interested in doing things.  Still, if you just buy and hold your Bitcoin for a long time, it will most likely go up over time as it is designed to do naturally.  You would make more money saving with Bitcoin than with fiat as long as you keep your Bitcoin as safe as possible.

I hope this helped, good luck on your endeavors.  If you want to check altcoins for trading you could use this service, if you want Bitcoin news you could use CoinDesk and if you want to understand the depths of Bitcoin, then the best way is just to look around on this forum and you'll see all the different topics being covered, as long as you're willing to look up and try to understand technical vocabulary.
