People are always willing to gamble when they don't know the risks of non-vaccination.  Look at some polio victims from the older generations, or better yet live with them and they'll change their tune.

It's natural selection, stupid people don't get vaccinated, stupid people die off more often, everybody wins.  Cheesy
It doesn't work this way.

Yes, I know, was just making a joke. Smiley

The anti-vax movement is a very real problem, like every other belief based on pseudo-science or superstition, the dangers of not having a group properly inoculated are starting to be seen and it will probably get worse.

I am happily vaccinated, and should I have kids, they'll surely get their vaccines as well. Anything else is a pure suicide for (or to be more precise, homicide of) the children.

Well , I'm happy to read you opinion and happy to see you on this board again. Smiley

I dont like taking vaccines I get even more sick with it then without it.  Makes the flu 10 times more powerful then you catching it naturally.

Care to share what type of vaccine you've got and for what disease?

Stupid people must be vaccinated, otherwise some smart people can die too. The only who benefits in this situation is the virus, due to possibility of natural selection for vaccination-resistant strains. If viral genome is unstable then partial vaccination of society is potentially able to create vaccination-resistant strain.

Like Microsoft is offering security updates for windows pirated versions:

Microsoft said that it won’t be changing this policy for Windows 7, meaning that pirates will still be as protected as legit users. While this might seem a little strange for any software company to provide software support to pirates, keeping even illegal copies patched up is in the interest of the entire computing ecosystem.

Recently in North-West Pakistan, the militants shot dead a few healthcare officials who were tasked with giving polio vaccines to the children. I don't know why they are being targeted. But the results are there for everyone to see:

If you choose not to vaccinate your child that’s your prerogative, but do me a favor and stay  away from me and my family. These diseases are horrible and PREVENTABLE. All drugs have the possibility of side effects but I’d much rather take that gamble than have my kid die or end up permanently impaired because I don’t believe in modern medicine.

When the CDC releases the incident rate of flu's among people receiving the flu vaccine, I might consider it. When they stop putting formaldehyde and thymerisol in the vaccines I might consider it. When they stop incubating the vaccines in egg yolks I might consider it. When they can guarantee that the contaminants in the vaccine are safe and nontoxic I might consider it.
Make sure you take the time to look at all the facts:

Forget about voting, nobody  except the medical staff can have any right to vote here. Vaccination should be forced for everybody who don't have any specific contraindications, because collective immunity allows us to protect unvaccinated people from getting infection.

It's not a place for the "democracy", because it's about survival. Only massive and forced vaccination was able to exterminate such deseases as polio and variola. The same is correct for measles, rubella and many other infections.

This is correct - we are just putting it off for the short term with only those who wish being vaccinated, while future generations will be likely punished for our collective stupidity.

Of course the problem is that we might not be able to practically, as people will always resist it seems. And ideally, it is wrong to put secret drugs and substances in people without their consent. If they were open source I would feel better about mandatory vaccinations.

It seems as if the only path that we will go down is one of forming stronger viruses and diseases... Is there a realistic solution other than improving our capabilities as we go along (in the societal view)?

This kind of thing is precisely why I think children should be given the vote and be allowed to make their own major decisions in life like whether they have vaccines or not, I couldn't even make up a better reason than this, these people are definitely too stupid to be having children, I'm generally open minded but doctors are one of the few people in this world you should really pay attention to.

Fair enough if they don't want to get vaccinated, seriously, I don't care that much, but when they force their children to go along with their stupid choices then that's when they cross the line.

you can't really force parents to do that.. even if it's the right thing. besides, if kids had their own choice, i'm sure most would rather.. not.

You vastly underestimate the intelligence of children.

True, but after a lifetime being brainwashed by idiot parents, many of them sadly beleave what their parent say when there is no-one around to teach them the truth. Then the next generation of idiots starts with the same bs and we have it going

Honestly, it doesn't happen as easily as that anymore, granted a few years ago you may have been right, but I can tell you that because of how easy it is to get access to information and the internet you'll find children quickly realise whether their parents are crazies or not and are telling them lies. Even if they get banned from it there's nothing stopping them from sneaking on a phone and getting a free wi-fi hotspot etc. even more so now with Bitcoin you'll inevitably hear stories about them buying stuff with Bitcoin right under their parents' noses.

sure, there are kids who break away from the indoctrination of their parents.. but to say that a vast majority of kids will end up thinking independent of their kids? nah, i strongly doubt that. they are the minority.

just look at all those mormon groups, or the westboro baptist church.. or just ignorant people in general. they usually get it passed down from their parents.

here's some proof how dumb people are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ_VuGZw3cY

there were some young guys who were complaining about the depleting water source, and when asked whether they thought it was due to climate change, the said something along the lines of "no that's some made up shit by the media." they had been indoctrinated into ignorance.. and this shit happens all the damn time.

First Exclusion Ever
I just wanted to chime in here and state that this community has a lot of very intelligent people here, with some well researched and formed opinions, but I have found this crowd to be exceedingly ignorant in regard to medical issues.

Let the parents decide for themselves if they want to vaccinate their children.
However, any households that have non-vaccinated inhabitants will be immediately relocated into a non-vaccinated quarantine region of Death Valley where they will be free to live the remainder of their lives in smug indignant ignorance.

The United States Anti-Vaccination Movement is composed of a variety of individuals ranging from former doctors who should know better, to semi-celebrities who have no medical training, to anti-government conspiracy theorists who distrust anything that the government says. They all hold onto the mistaken belief that autism is caused by receiving childhood vaccines.

In 2007 there was an increase in celebrities promoting anti-vaccination rhetoric. Because of their celebrity status they appeared on several television shows and published multiple books advising parents not to vaccinate their children. This has led to an increase in the number of vaccine preventable illnesses as well as an increase in the number of vaccine preventable deaths.

Quote
Recent measles outbreaks in New York, California and Texas are examples of what could happen on a larger scale if vaccination rates dropped, says Anne Schuchat, the CDC's director of immunizations and respiratory diseases. Officials declared measles, which causes itchy rashes and fevers, eradicated in the United States in 2000. Yet this year, the disease is on track to infect three times as many people as in 2009. That's because in most cases people who have not been vaccinated are getting infected by others traveling into the United States. Then, Schuchat says, the infected spread it in their communities.

Probably a lot of the members on this board are fathers already , and some are thinking on having a child...
What was your choice / what is going to be?

I'm pro vax.

I think the fear comes to people in the form that we are not told exactly what is in the vaccine. So, I can understand. They want some comfort in knowing that it is something not containing anything other than anti(insert illness) compounds.

I feel really bad for the kids who have to go through this because their parents are too ignorant or paranoid to get them vaccinated.
If they are really so concerned with the alleged link between autism and childhood vaccinations, they should continue to vaccinate their kids so that one day future generations won't have to because we will have eradicated the disease.

What is really sad is people believe celebrities and reality TV "stars" before their family doctor. These ignorant people deserve what they and their families get. Maybe we should tie Obamacare to "you don't get Medicaid if you didn't have vaccinations".
