Some units default to 192.168.0.99 address.

Well it all depends on who you get it from. Some actually offer replacements.
But with the antminers costing like $250 now, I doubt they will be offering anything for anyone at them prices...

Ya guys, its not just you. I just got an ANT from BitMain with a bad Ethernet port as well.

My friend also got an ant with a bad Ethernet port a few weeks ago.

They are clearly shipping out bad control boards over the last 2 months.

They have to be damn well aware that they are not working. If they truly plug in every ant for quality control they know for sure that the ant does not work and they ship them out anyways.

I am also noticing that most of the bad control board complaints are coming from the USA, including myself and my friend.

Are they just shipping there bad shit knowingly to us Americans or what? Do I smell a lawsuit?

Anybody want to sell me connecting ribbons for s1, this is not a joke I've been screwed by bitmain.

Sold me one, it wouldn't hash, finally got a hold of them, was asked to disassemble hashing boards, I complied sent both boards and controller and threw in the  two 8pin ribbons the other four pin ribbon. Two weeks later get back same equipment, thermal paste a and all still stuck to it  minus the ribbons. Now what ? Can't even see if they've actually replaced the equipment because the ribbons were not sent back. Bullshit if you ask me. Was reading the Bitmain setup and troubleshoot thread. Guess what I'm reading other people with exact same hashing problem.... wonder if they will ask them to disassemble the rig too...sadly disappointed in my 650 dollar loss

i know that it is not seen via the ip pfsnece is not picking it up
ive scanned the ip range and tested a couple of other common ip router ranges.
the switch is showing that it is connected.
i have contacted bitmain with no luck.

how wide is the address space of your router (some routers are set for say 192.168.1 - 50, so if the Ant is set to a fixed IP of 192.168.1.99 as per the sticker it might not be 'seen' by the router).  Sushi's guide https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/setup-troubleshoot-bitmain-antminer-s1-180ghs-miner-344970 points to some IP scan software (http://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com/).

Try to see if the wifi is active (there are simple wifi scanners such as inSSIDer that might help http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/).  Can you swap the control board with a known working Ant?
If you are trying to run it standalone against a PC, you should set the PC temporarily to a fixed IP in the same space as the Ant and connect them with a crossover cable, or through a hub/switch.  An ethernet switch would give you a clue if the connection is alive through the status lights of the port that the Ant is connected to.  If all else fails, try to contact Bitmain (see email addresses at https://www.bitmaintech.com/about.htm)

It's a bad control board.  It's not finishing the boot cycle.

The normal boot cycle is slow flash (1Hz) for 5-10 sec, fast flash (2Hz) for 5-10 seconds, then it will begin mining if it's configured right and has internet connectivity, at which point the control board LED and both blade LEDs will flash very rapidly (30Hz).

If all you're getting is the slow flash, it's not booting.

You can try disconnecting each blade from the control board, and can also try moving the control board to where it's powered by the second blade instead of the first.  None of those things helped my unit that had the problem though.

Since I bought mine from Sushi, he helped get me a replacement board.  You'll probably have to contact Bitmain directly for yours.  Or you can message this guy and ask if he's got any more: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bitmain-Antminer-S1-control-board-/231196026342

lets face it, a bunch of these rigs are just shit.

the first ones i received have all been solid, but the later ones have ALL been wank.

they stop mining and beep for no reason.

they fail to restart mining without reboots/reconfigs

I guess you have tried to change that to 192.168.2.1?

Are you using a crossover cable?

Neither of the networks I have tried connecting it to didn't work. One is a tp-link router and a pfsence setup

had issues with my apple router. had to set it up a second router. try logging into router and see if its being blocked, reassigned or anything.

Yes the Ethernet side light does come on.

Did you see if any leds were blinking on the ethernet side of the S1? At anytime? Reboot, and check.

Just the slow flash huh.  It looks like it's stuck in the early boot stage.  I had one that had this problem.  I ended up having to replace the control board (thanks Sushi).

Sometimes I could get it to boot by leaving it powered off for a few hours.  Then it would boot and run for a while again.

Try connect antminer to your laptop without any router. cat5 cable from antminer direct to your laptop.
Set your laptop IPV4 setting to:
IP:192.168.1.90
subnet:255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.1.1
then open the chrome browser and go 192.168.1.99

If above not working do this:
IP:192.168.2.90
subnet:255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.2.1
then open the chrome browser and go 192.168.2.99

I got one antminer on 192.168.2.99 not sure why think they accidentally put it wrong

Did you change your the IP on your computer to be on the same network as the Antminer? 

I had to change mine to connect, change your IP, open command prompt, attempt to ping ant miner.

ive tried the connect straight to the ant. wireshark aint showing crap. just the packets from my computer. I have isolated the ant to its own network with just the ant and a laptop.

Heya man,

    There are a few steps you can take to test this out a bit more. 

1.  First, if you have another ant running (I say another instead of "more ants" because what I'm about to explain you would have already figured out if that were the case), make sure it's not running on 192.168.1.99 (out of 8 units I've received 8 of them used this by default).
2.  Verify the network cable works by swapping it with the laptop/computer you're using and make sure you can still connect to sites, etc.
3.  Is this connected to the same switch as another computer on your network or did you put it on its own?
4a.  What network is your local net on?  If you're connecting to the same switch as the computer you're on the net with, click start (then the run menu if you have an old windows install then type: cmd and hit enter) or if a newer version of windows in the white input text box on the start menu type: cmd and hit enter
4b.  Once the DOS prompt is up (black box), in it type this: ipconfig and then hit enter and tell me the output
5.  Another step you could take is connect a laptop or a desktop via crossover cable to the ant directly.  If you don't know how to crimp a cable, you can buy one in the store.  Once you have the crossover cable running from the ant to the computer you're using to test with, verify your network settings and let's say set the following info:

IP: 192.168.1.200
netmask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway (which won't work but we have to set it): 192.168.1.1
dns: 8.8.8.8

After that, follow the instructions in step 4a to get a DOS prompt up and type: ping 192.168.1.99 and see if it pings.

of 8 machines they I had one had a dead ethernet.  I had to replace the unit.

I will have to try the wireshark. But I have powered cycle it a couple of times.

demon, sometimes after a reset, I have to kill the power and then power it back on then it will reset to one of the default IPs.
I usually open a command prompt, ping -t 192.168.1.99 (or 2.99 on older ants), then hit the reset button, some units pop right back up after a reset and start replying to ping request, others don't, so I power off/on, and presto PING REPLY.

You can see the network light flashing, hook it up toa PC with a packet sniffer like WireShark and see what's coming out of that network cable.

I have tried both IPs and done an IP scan. Nothing is showing up on my DHCP table either.

That little black button is the reset button. This also resets the IP address. It will now either be on 192.168.1.99 or 192.168.2.99 depending on your firmware version.

Hey quick question. I have an AntMiner S1 and its not letting me access it via the address on the sticker. I just got it from a friend that was having some issues with it and trying to help them out. I have reviewed over the troubleshooting techniques and nothing has worked. I have pressed the little black button for 3 seconds, nothing. i tried it for 5 and still nothing. i tried the paper clip and still didn't work.
