Antiminer Pro's :
1) Significantly cheaper than a full 6 GPU build generating equivalent revenue
2) No skill required to setup, plug and play so very noob friendly
3) Little to no maintenance required
Cons :
1) Can ONLY mine one algorithm, if that drops in profitability you can not switch or sell, you are stuck with an ASIC that cant do anything else.
2) Prices seem cheap, but when you add in import customs and shipping duties, cost of power supplies etc it isnt so cheap anymore.
3) A measely 6 month warranty, compared to 3 years on GPUs, and you have to handle shipping it back to them yourself.
4) LOUD as HELL, so you can not have these inside your house, even in the Garage is too loud for most people.
5) Little to no resale value, so ROI calculation for an ASIC is against its total value. For a GPU based rig, you only need to cover only ~30% of the Rig value depreciation only they still have a use, and resale value. This makes ASICs take longer to ROI.
6) Every new ASIC upgrade demolishes previous ones, making them almost unprofitable to run, and a couple new upgrades are expected in the next year.
7) You need to place the order and pay the total amount 2-3months in advance atleast, and there more delays even then, while a GPU rig you can build tomorrow.

Antminer it's difficult to sell, it's specialized equipment. + video card can be bought easily, equipment is difficult to buy and there are a lot of mossins in this market

GPUs can be considered as active capital. You always can sell every part of your rig or use it as powerful PC. Outdated Antminer is just a piece of metal and chips.
Yes, but an Antminer S9 is vastly more profitable than any reasonable GPU rig. You're likely to earn about the same from an Antminer S9 right now as you are with a GPU rig with 6x 1080 Ti's. That GPU rig would be a lot more expensive though.

So yes, while GPU's have better second hand value, an S9 is way more profitable.

Quick rough estimate from Swedish current prices of GTX 1080 Ti vs Antminer S9:

6x GTX 1080 Ti (Swedish market, cheaper in other countries with less taxes etc): $5226
3x Antminer S9 from Bitmain: $4245

6x GTX 1080 Ti mining BTX per day: $28 give or take some depending on card, miner and OC.
3x Antminer S9 mining BCH: $83

Since it's not possible to calculate proper price in the future, let's just play with the thought that the difficulty and price will stay the same. So in 6 months, those six GPU's will have earned you $5190 while three Antminers will have earned you $14982. That's quite a big difference. Granted, you'll earn less depending on your electricity cost.

Cost of GPU's are just quick prices in Sweden. They'll be cheaper in other countries. Then again, I didn't include any other components needed, like CPU, RAM, PSU, etc. Same goes for Antminer, the PSU is not included. But who knows, anything can happen in the future.
Totally agree with what you wrote.
The wisest choice, and the one with which you recoup the fastest investment, is a S9 asic.

Hello Guys,

This is my first post! First let me thank you all for support.

Let me tell you about me: living in Qatar, here we don't pay for electricity is included in rent.

I have some questions:

1. From what I understand from you guys Antiminer s9 is the best one if you don't have electricity costs, right ?

2. Prices for Antiminer s9 - on multiple websites are very different the lowest price found on bitmain com but not on stock.

3. Some of Antiminer s9 come without power supply ? why they sell it like this ? can work without power supply ?

4. I know is a questionable question but if you start mining and "HOLD" you actually will earn more of mining in future no ?

if you guys saying that now produces 20$ per day - today when price is 14k usd ; let's say in one year supposedly will reach 28k then the profit will be actually 40$ per day, no ?

5. where is the best place to buy Antiminer s9 ? found it on ebay, amazon and alibaba as well on bitmain but not on stock.

regards,
dan

6GPU Gtx1070 9$
Halo what your coin mine? ASIC and GPU miner is soo different, so dont compare
Antminer (ASIC) is for SCRYPT, X11, SHA 256 and others
and GPU is for Ethash, Cryptonight, Lyra, Equihash and others

GPU is better because if this era end, we can use GPU for gaming or selling your gpu

yep, at first look, antminer seems to get more profit. This is true if you have free electricity. Power draw for s9 is about 1.3kw/h while 6x1070 is about 700kw/h. Antminer generates more noise and heat compared to 1070 rig so you need additional cooling devices.

An antminer must be specific algorithm, GPU can switch algorithm also can be used to play game.

Its also about a moral code. I personally dont support ASICs, imo they centralize the mining process. Just look @ bitcoin, one team with over 70% hashpower.

The only antminer i would consider buying is the S9 (because bitcoin will always be there to be mined). Other than that, if you will be mining altcoins, just go with GPUs. One of the primary appeals of GPU mining is that it is easily resellable. It is of utmost important that you have an exit strategy and this is true for any and all investments, not just bitcoin or altcoin mining.

Why should you build 6 gpu rig if you could just buy antminer S9

NiceHash
Antminer S9 20$ per day
6GPU Gtx1070 9$

and Antminer S9 only cost 1250$
6GPU rig cost 3 times that amount...

You numbers are way off.  I can build a 6 card 570 rig for around $1500 today that will mine about 12-13$ a day.  If I wanted to wait for cards on sale I can do it for about $1250-1300 pretty easy.

That changes the decision quite a bit.

Is an Antminer more profitable, yes, but as others have posted you are really pigeon holing yourself on what you can mine.  On a mining rig I can switch coins and mine what ever I want (even things like BTC and LTC because I can use winminer or nicehash).  I can mine coins with a lot more room to grow if I wanted to keep the coins.  I will always have some value with the parts of the GPU rig.

When you consider all those things the decision gets really muddy really fast.  I like miners when they first come out.  You can make a lot of money if you can get the first batch.  I just never hand any luck with that.  Once the market gets flooded (ie. D3) I don't think there is a clear winner and it just comes down to "why" you are mining and personal preference.

One very important thing is availability. Buying a gpu`s at your local and ordering from a bitmain or ebay (with various risks involved) is not the same.

Once the ASIC is outdated, it is a paperweight.

Once a GPU is outdated, It's a budget card.

hi sir ,what about the cost of the outgoing right for us to start mining using Antminer Huh
Well the costs of electricity can be high but it vary by each Country, if you Live in a place where Electricity is free(But it's unlikely anywhere) then it would super profitable to mine. Also you can use any Free electricity like Solar panels or Wind etc.

I think you must try to think about the comparison of the antminer and profitability with other like GPU mine, as you can see about the fact i think that the antminer would be more profitable rather than gpu mining for ethereum, but i kinda feel disappointed for the electricity consume.
But with the next update from the ethereum developer to put the difficulty bomb to complete the pos migration and it might be a best choice to buy antminer rather than build your own GPU mine.
