what do you mean in ERC20 ETH and ETH is different.

There are ETH wallets that do not support or are no ERC20 ETH wallet.  By using this kind of wallet that does not support ERC20, you will not be able to receive any tokens from airdrops or bounty campaigns.

Hi! I'm new to the forum and just wanted to start with saying how helpful this place has been in getting me started in cryptocurrency.

I've only just started to scratch the surface of the crypto world and already I feel miles ahead of where i was only a week back.

I very recently just put my first few extra bucks into Bitcoin as a means of kicking things off and I was wondering if anyone who has been around for awhile had any wisdom they could share about perhaps something they wish they knew starting off or where they should have been focusing their efforts most.

The most important tip is to learn and study. That's the key to your success. And this forum is a good opportunity to receive some basic understanding in crypto.

I think your question is a bit generic hence I will post here to address two concerns : (1) ranking up in this forum and (2) airdrops and bounty campaigns

Ranking Up

The definition of Quality Post is subjective

One member may find your post as "quality post" then will give you a merit while other members may just engage you with a discussion without giving any merit.  Hence, I would like to suggest that just make it a habit to post something substantial and always (yes, always) be mindful of the rules of the forum.  Prevent yourself to be part of the ignored list of the merit sources.

Start Small

Just start small.  You can start on the things that you know or your experiences that you want to share.  I know that being a newbie, it feels like we cannot contribute anything in the forum because we have just little knowledge compare to the veterans.  However, I think some members would like to hear your stories of success, failures, learning, and not learning, and the like.  You can also post topic that interests you, in that way you can provide good insights by using your passion on the subject as the motivation/fuel to make a good post.

Start with "Beginners & Help" Category

You can start posting in the Beginners & Help category for you to ask questions and to be familiar with the forum.  It is advisable also that the target audience of your first posts are newbies (in relation with the previous point "Start Small").

Read. Read. Read
Try using the "search" bar if you want to learn certain topics.  It is really helpful (believe me).  By reading you will now the unspoken rules of the forum (what attitudes are frowned upon and what attitudes are highly encouraged).

COMMON MISTAKES of BEGINNERS/NEWBIES during ICO, AIRDROPS, and BOUNTY CAMPAIGNS

1. ETH Address vs Private Key

Note that your ETH Address is different from your Private Key.
Your Private Key is your way of accessing your wallet while your ETH address is used to receive coins.

Sample ETH address       : 0x46678053A1C1F1A3d46d916f93Fd74dAe1c2aF6B

Sample ETH Private Key : a96bc7487e7bd325e0a2dcf1a7adc9a04ecb2ada74cc49604aa2e95c3122e523

2. Bitcointalk Profile

When you want to see your profile by clicking the “profile” in the home tab, you will see this URL : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile.
This is NOT your bitcointalk profile link!

There are two (2) ways to get your bitcointalk profile link:

a. First, you need to go to your profile.
On the left corner you will see “summary” then click it.  You will get a URL like this : https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/nngella-2171254.
Remove the “;sa=summary” and the new URL (https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/nngella-2171254) is your bitcointalk profile URL;

or

b. Go to your profile then on the left corner click “show posts”, it will display your previous posts.
Click one (1) to show your previous post with your bitcointalk username on the left side of the post.
Click on your bitcointalk username and it will direct you to your profile.  The URL is your bitcointalk profile link.

3. ERC20 ETH Wallet

Bounty campaigns and airdrops mostly use ERC20 ETH wallet to distribute their tokens.
Note that ERC20 ETH wallet is different from the ETH address that you can get from an exchange.
https://www.myetherwallet.com/ (MEW) is an example of an ERC20 ETH wallet.
You can also use hardware wallets which are more secure than MEW

4. Forgetting to post your result

You need to take note the day of the week that you need to submit the result of your campaign!
Failure to do so will make your effort be in vain,  the bounty manager will not credit what you did for the previous week.

In my case, I always document my bounty campaigns using google docs.
This helps me to manage and sort out one campaign to another (to avoid mixing them up).

5. Quote vs New post vs Same post just edit

Aside from taking note on when to post your report, you also need to be mindful on the matter of how.
Some bounty managers will require you to make a new post every week hence a campaign having a duration of four (4) weeks means having four (4) posts for reports, one (1) per week.
Others will require to just edit your proof of authentication post making it just one (1) post for the whole duration of the campaign.
Lastly, I also encounter others that require you to make a new post every week and quoting your previous week/s.

Be patient, be calm, never give your emotion decide what you need to do and just get as much knowledge as you can about coin or bounty or airdrop that you want to attend, that will give you possibilities to earn something in future.
It`s good to be patient and not to be greedy as much as possible, because sometimes when you are really frustrating having so many problems in life won`t actually help you. Besides if you want to gain something you need to work hard and as what you have said never let your emotion decide from what you really want to do. Well you should always think about the bright side of what will happened in your life in the future.

1) withdraw to local wallet
2) encrypt & backup local wallet
3) track bought price manually on an app like cointracking (b/c exchanges frequently purge trade history)
4) triple backup passwords, seeds
5) 2fa on everything (using authy app that backups up your acct incase you lose phone)

First time you need to read this forum well. Specially pinned topics read well. After reading the topic, you will gain knowledge about the forum. You get the idea about the crypt currency. Search Facebook, Twitter, Raddit, there you will find much more crypt knowledge.

With regards to cryto currency in general the most useful things I have learned are:

  • Never spend what you cannot afford to lose
  • There's no such thing as 'get rich quick'
  • If something appears to be too good to be true, then it's usually a scam

Most of it is common sense, spend time on here and learn from the posts, there's some great info available on here if you can spare the time to read it.

First of all welcome to this forum.

As a beginner 1st thing apart from all thing you have to accure knowledge about this field like what is blockchain and cryptocurrency how it works and other basic fundamentals, if you learn then you can trade or invest your own otherwise you have to follow others, and never follow others just take knowledge from others and DYOR. I am not telling you that you will never do any mistake, you will do mistake and from every mistake you will learn a lot, that will help you to grow by mentally and financially.
Best way to accure knowledge is read forum posts, read article, see youtube videos, follow twitter and news. Thats all..

You dont have to worry just give a start and you already started by posting this topic in forum..
Best of luck and wish you happy crypto journey..

Ok , first of all and this is very important , be careful your wallet and your password , you should to know if you loss your wallet file and your password or privite key , you will loss all .

That's real true . But I think you need to be afraid of this too much . If you keep your wallet file and never tell others your password , I think every thing is ok .And What I want to say is that you can join some aitrdrop in here and get free coin , learns how to trade them .

Something they wish they knew starting off.

  • Your long term storage wallet needs to be in your physical posession.  Do not leave coins long-term in an exchange.
  • Move all of your coins out of an exchange the instant they start delaying withdrawals.
  • Losing your coins because you've forgotten your wallet password or lost the wallet.dat is incredibly common.
    • You won't remember that passkey in 3 years, and neither will the executor of your estate.
    • Put a copy of your wallet and instructions on how to access it with your important papers.

I started mining when BTC was under a dollar, and I remember buying some coins too.  I can't find those coins.  Did I spend them?  I don't know.

(I did find the one cascasius physical bitcoin I bought; so it's not all bad.   Grin)

Being a newbie takes a lot of effort and your willingness to learn. I may not a pro in cryptocurrency but I can give you advice since im almost 4yrs now learning and dealing with cryptocurrency. My advice is for you to have a patience in slowly learning about it. Join on different community where you can learn and share also what you know. For me being on different groups or community help me a lot to gain more knowledge. And also have some research on markets if you are planning on trading. Thats all.

I really think that before "jumping" to crypto and wallet every newbie should understand this technology cause there are plenty of new terms 100+ and what exactly is blockchain technology?

It is impossible even to understand what is Ethereum in less than few days....

I wrote this guide focused on Blockchain Technology
https://101blockchains.com/ultimate-blockchain-technology-guide/
As well I published this Blockchain Glossary
https://101blockchains.com/blockchain-definitions/

I think starting with this 2 articles will give you a solid ground before jumping to wallets and investments....

Please do share your feedback as I want to improve them

Thanks

Work hard and gain as much knowledge as possible.  You'll need to understand the nature of cypto markets very thoroughly as these are very volatile. Be well aware of the risk you can afford to take.

By reading you will know the unspoken rules of the forum (what attitudes are frowned upon and what attitudes are highly encouraged).

Remove the “;sa=summary” and the new URL (https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/nngella-2171254) is your bitcointalk profile URL;

or

Hi! I'm new to the forum and just wanted to start with saying how helpful this place has been in getting me started in cryptocurrency.
Welcome to the forum, you are in the right place of telling this and everyone has gained a lot of knowledge about crypto's here just like me.  Smiley

I've only just started to scratch the surface of the crypto world and already I feel miles ahead of where i was only a week back.
Keep on learning, this is a continuous learning process. Once you are familiarized with what you are focusing, it's easy for you to apply what you learned.

I very recently just put my first few extra bucks into Bitcoin as a means of kicking things off and I was wondering if anyone who has been around for awhile had any wisdom they could share about perhaps something they wish they knew starting off or where they should have been focusing their efforts most.
Watch the market and see on how the price are moving, learn the basics of reading charts and you'll go deeper with it if you are done familiarizing it.

Research, a lot. I've only been doing this for eight months now-but my friends have been doing it for years. I was curious if some of the senior members had anything to say in regards to your post...but me? I research like everything...
