I am impressed. 
^^It's not the biggest catch, a also got sweetwater stingray from the river near Bangkok area. I loose one estimated to 200kg.

I personal know a woman with a duckweed farm, but I believe is raising it for fuel stock (biodiesel).

it was self contained. he had a pump for recirculation, but otherwise it was self balancing. Chicken and fish poop fed the Duckweed and some other hydroponic crops, duckweed fed the tilapia, tilapia fed guys family of 3. Ill see if I can't find the clip for you.
I can believe that he managed to balance the system using the solar energy that the duckweed obtains and using an external input in the form of chicken feed but I don't believe the family of three was obtaining a significant fraction of their daily calories on a sustained basis from the amount of tilapia that can be grown in a residential swimming pool that way.Watch the video. Love eating fish, love raising fish, love eating at the Y. 
I currently have a 55gal setup with cichlids. If you live in the US, and don't want to spend an arm and a leg getting cichlids, then I recommend catching small (or large, your choice) sunfish. Sunfish are *very* similar to cichlid in attitude, but are less picky about eating. Sunfish just aren't as "pretty". With sunfish, you can toss just about anything that you find creepin' and crawlin' in your basement that you find icky, and the sunfish (when it gets big enough) will love them all equally.
