Just a guess to how could he find the private keys! Huh

Billions of private keys are already found on the web, random private keys are "easy" to find the hard part is finding the private key of one specific address and since we have billions of address the chance to get a private key for an address with founds is very very very very very very very low.
Anyway, we are going offtopic.

Does anyone know if the update on GitHub profile can be done only from the author or the profile?

I guess @coinlocket$ found the private key to one of his address from the thousands of leaked private keys on the web.

Basically, it is not always through a brute force attack as he already side he would rather attack a key with some funds not an empty address. But he could have found it on web itself, an excellent example of an website were you can find 1889807 leaked private keys.

What address is the private key to? Can you sign a message from it? I would think that would be harmless.

Are you sure GitHub did not auto "update" all profiles around the time it is showing as being last updated?

Obviously his private key is somewhere in the public domain. If you cannot post the address, was it the private key he held the forum bitcoin in?

I've asked to a friend of mine that is quite good with this kind of thing and he said is a manual update, someone should be doing it. I'm not sure of it since I do not know anything about GitHub.

For the address, I can sign a message but you will see the address, as I said I will share it only with theymos if he wants it.
No, it is a useless address with only a few transactions on it and it wasn't the address with 250 BTC.

I have a lot more to share about it but someone can think is inappropriate, so I don't know if I will share it publicly.
Ah, I was under the impression you would only share the private key with theymos.

Theymos (presumably) has paraipan's dox, as I assume it was given to him so theymos could file tax forms in relation to paraipan's payment he would receive for holding the forum's money. Unless you have information to suggest paraipan had multiple IRL identities, or that he faked his death, I am not sure how much value this would be.

theymos also does not appear to be especially interested in playing an active role in recovering the money, perhaps out of fear of violating debt collection (and similar) laws.

So you are telling me you found a privkey on the internet that he used? That doesn't sound right. Lol

Search yourself, you will be surprised. It is not so easy to find it but with a good investigation, you will find it.

@loyce that could be a good solution, let me think about it I have several personal information.

Do you know anything if the GitHub profile can be updated only manually in Locale?

With a lot of research, you have no idea!

I can post one more not a harmless thing

his GitHub profile has been updated on 2017, even if I have no idea on why and who could do it.

Are you sure GitHub did not auto "update" all profiles around the time it is showing as being last updated? Are you able to rule out something changing that would not be caused by someone logging into the account? The API response does show it being updated in 2017, but there are no "contributions" in years. I see it lists the email as "null" -- perhaps github removed the email when it got a "bounceback" when his email account was closed due to inactivity (this is of course speculation).

If we can all get people's private keys by doing research theres no sense of using those private keys..

I answered. READ.
Search it and you will find it, as I said I can share the key to theymos only, for obvious reasons. (But the wallet is empty and with only few transactions)

To answer to your brutal force attack, your keys will probably be safe for another 50+ years with the actual progression of the power calculation of pc and the difficulty of keys, when the power of pc will be enough to be a problem for the brutal attack they will probably change the difficulty of keys.

Also if I can brutal force an address assuming that I want to do it, do you think I will attack an empty wallet or one with bitcoin on it? Roll Eyes

After 3 days of researches.

I've found a private key of Paraipan but the address is empty, I found a lot of interesting things but this may seem offensive for somebody, so I don't really know if I should post them or not.

For the private key, I will never share it publicly, if theymos wants it I will send it by pm only to him. (the key is for a very low-value address and I do not think it will be used ever again)

Has his death be confirmed? You know on 2014 Bitcoin reached 1k value after the pump and 250 bitcoin were 250k usd, if he death has be confirmed somewhere than RIP.

An interesting fact the account vite who announced the peraipan's death here, https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/rest-in-peace-paraipan-583286 seems to be now a hacked or sold account http://archive.fo/MTfeg , looking at his post history. https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/vite-49941;sa=showPosts;start=0

Who knows if someone bought his computer equipment (perhaps at an estate sale), or if this was the family moving funds, perhaps not knowing the money belongs to someone else.

Has anyone contacted Bitstamp about the missing coins?

This is always my issue with exploring into this sort of thing.
Who knows if the original owner even has the coins, most chains have been tainted and even selling the private keys was sometimes done in the past...

I think bitstamp probably knows who had the coins as they appear to have been deposited into their exchange.

If someone can figure out the owner of the bitstamp account, the owner can at least be asked questions about the coins.

If the coins were moved on behalf of paraipans estate, I think it is probably too late to try to recover the money as there are time limits on how long creditors have to file claims against an estate, although the lack of service may affect these limits — an estate lawyer can provide more specific advice on the matter.

I doubt the owner would give any form of information without some form of legal request.

I can't think of a valid reason not to switch to multi-sig asap. Paraipan has already proven what can happen without it.

You own the pen
No, several people looked into it, but nobody was able to make contact with anyone who knew anything about what he did with the BTC or who might've stolen it after his death. The 25% reward still stands on any returned amount.

So 25% from that stolen BTC huh, the culprit is very difficult to find and with the existent of Bitcoin Mixer the mission to locate that guy is almost impposible. I wonder who got his Private Key after he died, his Wife? and maybe the people who is close to him might have some hints.
