Why dont you just set a periodic ping to your miner (assuming IP exists)
If no ping, shutdown.

Check out Akbash? It will monitor CGMiner, and if it's crashed, or if you hashrate drops below a certain point, it will close and restart CGMiner. If it does this 3 times, it will reboot your PC. Also sends email alerts when it does this.

2) Set alarm for that time to wake up and reset the miner
Also if your at work, you can shut it off automatically by using the automated shut off to specify what time you want it off when the miner mostly shuts off.

thanks, but the times seem really random. eg didnt happen yesterday at all, day before 440am, day before 1030am etc

Im using bfgminer which crashes every now and then while im at work or asleep (with red fury usb miners), so to save my pc running while its not mining is there any way to auto shut down? or anyway to auto reboot the bfgminer?
