My one of six Sapphire RX470 died because display driver crashed. amd wattman was the problem i think.
Oooo yeah some drivers are bad. I had a driver that drove way to fast. He really hit that throttle and revved the cards too hard at every red light. In the end he just overdrove the wheels off the GPUs and ended up in a tree...

i have about 200 of them and I think I had 2 cards fail and 2 others have one bad fan.  They are all sapphires.  Lucky i just took the fans of the dead one and swapped them out and all was good.

2 dead on 200 that s nice, why am i so unlucky , i have the 470's with 1 fan

These GPUs have been out already for a few months. I am looking to buy more and wondering if I can get some reliability reports from users.

So far on the Bitcointalk Forum (470 Thread) there was an individual who had a MSI 470 catch fire, however he was using a server PSU which might of been overvolted.

Over at the Ethereum Forum, there was large reports of the Sapphire Fans failing at a huge rate.

I have a few of the MSI 470 4GB and some Gigabyte 470 4GB and they are running top notch.

ive had couple sapphire tech rx 480's die, appeared to be shorted out by the fluid that's in the heatpipes, it got in the riser of one, dunno about the second gpu

i had 16x sapphire rx470 4G
one died again yesterday,  computer was off , when i restart  fire and smoke came out gpu

only 12 left, got 6 dead of them already
2 got repair the others refund

wtf i have so much dead gpu's   Huh

they also run at 1200mhz max and undervolted

also have 1 of 5 gtx 1060 who dies

1 of 4 msi r9 270 (after 2-3 year)  all msi fan's dead (worse fan i had)  replaced with sapphire 380's fan

3 sapphire 380's of 11 (2 before first year)

1 of 5 asus 380's dead (bit after 1 year) (psu won't start)

6x 570's sapphire are ok for now (6 month old)

6x 380xfx ok (except fan's) (1.5 years old)  same for my r9390  1 dead fan

5x 560 sapphire ok for now
4x msi 460 ok
2x 370 sapphire  ok

so the worse i have is 470's sapphire
best gpu for me xfx (except xfx fan's)
best fan's are asus

ive got a dead sapphire rx 480 8gb, thinking due to heatpipe failure, found oily substance in the riser x16 slot and on the lower part of the backplate, will be rma'ing it shortly.

what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?
had msi 470/4 armor blow a vrm (must of shorted), psu would not turn on with its pcie cable connected. cards was run undervolted, core underclocked, memory overclocked (strapped vbios) temps genrally in high 60s.

RMAd it, replacement is going strong, same settings.

Bitcoin / Crypto mining Hardware.
XFX RX 480 8GB (OEM AMD w backplate) fan died in 8 months.
MSI RX 480 8GB (OEM AMD w/o backplate) burnt itself to death all of a sudden.

I'm pretty sure my 470 died because of the GPU misreporting the temp due to modded bios.

My fans were set to auto. At 60% manual now and no issues.

So which 470 and 480 are considered best for mining? Considering performance with modded ROMs, mem quality, temps in general, fan quality, cooling of VRAM etc.

never let fans go over 75%

keep heat at 70c

try to give them air

I am like 50 cards good none bad.

One rig I sold as oven air was squeezed into a rack and melted the psu mobo cable .  one mobo got some water damage and shorted, but pretty much trouble free gpu wise.

Now the money is free, and so the people will be
they run really good if you are smart about fans, core temp and vrm temp.  I had only one sapphire 4g 470 RMA'd due to fans mis-behaving.  sent to newegg for RMA and 2-3 days later shipped one out to me.  great all around.

What brand? MSI ?

Sapphire RX470OC 4GB, all undervolted, temperatures above 60°C. I using this PSU's: Antec 1000W Platinum, Enermax Platimax 1500W, Fractal Newton r3 1000W. So it's certainly not the fault of psu.

I have 4x Sapphire RX470 Nitro+ 8Gb running smoothly and cool (undervolted) that have been running almost non-stop for a month + 2x Sapphire Nitro+ 4Gb (will have another 2 tomorrow) that have been running for a week. So far, no issues to report.

I'm guessing that undervolting helps a lot with heat and potential failures too. All my cards are modded before use.

Also using one gold and on platinium Corsair PSU.

It was me that the 470 died. Came home one day, rig was off. Restarted and one 470 let out a puff of smoke and rig shut off after one second.

Tried again on different machine same thing. I've been using the same PSU, MB, and Cables and haven't had any troubles with anything else since. This was about 3-4 weeks ago.

Same here, 7pcs rx470 died. Different mobos, psu, mb etc..

TBH I think the likelihood of having problems are far lower with a server PSU vs a consumer one - the server PSU's are MUCH higher quality and in turn have much more consistent power output.

That depends on the consumer PSU... most of the high end ones are industrial grade. I use all consumer units... then again, I review these things and have access to the really high end stuff that costs most folks a fortune. For most people, the server units will be more cost effective. I wouldn't even look in the consumer market if I had to actually buy PSUs.

I also try not to run any units that have output devices under the main PCB - these usually require heatsinking to the housing, and if you have no airflow to said housing they tend to heat up more than they otherwise would. I prefer units that have the output parts and heatsinks directly in the fan's airflow, and have a way to disable any fanless modes. Running these things 24/7 at high output is demanding - they must be kept cool and well ventilated. And at 240V, if possible.
