Off-topic but its strange Jeopardy, so popular in the States, never got franchised round the world. Or maybe it did ...... I've never seen it any of the countries I've lived in though. Popular gameshows normally go worldwide.

We had Jeopardy in Sweden for some time. Not sure if we do now, but we have almost identical shows with different names though.

Ah ok. Never made it to the UK ........ or anywhere in Asia I have lived. What's it called in Sweden? Smiley

Interesting they framed it in that way, no central bank.  That must be the dictionary definition.  I'll be glad when it makes it's way into spellcheckers...  I'm tired of 'buffoon' popping up when I try to type in bitcoin.  Roll Eyes

how many dollars was the question worth? if it was lower, that means it's more mainstream and known by most households.

THIS

Any answer about the level ?

Yeah I want all the details.
What was the dollar value?
Did anyone guess?
Was there any reaction when the correct question was given?

BitChick knew the category so maybe she was watching it.

I wonder if someone has a digital copy of that episode so a clip can be extracted.

The category was "new words recently added to the Oxford dictionary" or something like that.  So litecoin could not be an option yet. Wink

I'm not in the States and hence not familiar with Jeopardy.

If you answered litecoin would you have lost ..... whatever you lose?  Wink

The clue provided is the answer.  The response is in the form of a question.  So it would be "What is Bitcoin?".

On if "What is Litecoin?" being accepted it probably would be considered incorrect but they do review alternate questions in the commercial break so I could see it being reversed upon review.   Answers are in categories so if the category was something like "Begins with B" then obviously Litecoin couldn't be valid.

It would have been interesting if someone answered Litecoin.

Great explanation. Off-topic but its strange Jeopardy, so popular in the States, never got franchised round the world. Or maybe it did ...... I've never seen it any of the countries I've lived in though. Popular gameshows normally go worldwide.

Would also love to know if any of the contestants got it right, or answered "feathercoin" Smiley - how long are the commercial breaks for the boffins to review answers?

They probably have something like a phone line where people can call in if they have reason to disagree, and then the judge will google it.

You are absolutely correct that Bitcoins were featured on Jeopardy tonight. The clue was: "A digital currency in which transactions can be performed without the need for a central bank". This is awesome news for bitcoins as it reflects an even further penetration into media as we know it. Huzzah for the further adoption and knowledge of everyones favorite cryptocurrency!
Edit: Beat me to it.
